Class suggestions

Have a suggetion for a potions class? Post it here! All suggestions which are made into classes will be given 10 points. Explain your idea well!

PART ONE

1) Tell the origin of word, "Felix Felicis".

2) Using the answer for question 1, give the two translations of "Felix Felicis" in the correct lanugage.

3) About how long will a tiny bottle of Felix Felicis last you?

4) Explain what will happen if you drink Felix Felicis.

5) Explain in 1 - 2 paragraphs (3 to four sentences each) the reason why Felix Felcis can be dangerous if over-used.

PART TWO

Write a short story telling about a time where you could have used Felix Felcis to your advantage. Explain why that time would not have resulted in problems as a result of over dosing Felix. (2- 3 paragraphs long or longer)

PART THREE

Write a short story telling about a time where you over dosed on Felix and the result was not good. Make sure to point out how it effected you and what the conquences were.

Potion Identification Part 1

Name the potions descriped here. ( They are pretty easy)


1) Causes the drinker to age, whether the potion only provides the signs of ageing or actually ages the drinker is not clear.

2) Causes the drinker to spew nonsense.

3) A potion of unknown effect, possibly disorients the user and make him or her vulnerable to deceptions.

4) Reverses the effects of the Swelling Solution.

5) Gives the drinker a feeling of peace and well-being, but if overdone it can put the drinker into a deep or even irreversible sleep.

6) This sunshine-yellow potion makes the drinker very happy.

7) A potion of unknown effect, but judging from the name either interferes with or strengthens memory.

8) Includes a number of rat tails.

Potion Identification Part 2

Name the potions descriped here. ( They are pretty easy)

9) Cures hiccups.

10) Apparently fortifies and increases the user's constitution.

11) Causes the drinker to reverse age.

12) A potion that grows back bones.

13) Used in Chamber of Secrets to subdue Crabbe and Goyle, so that Harry and Ron can steal their hair and shoes.

14) Physically strengthens the drinker.

15) Causes body parts it comes in contact with to swell up.

16) Apparently sharpens the user's mind. Consists of beetles, ginger root, and bile, among other ingredients. .

Maybe it would be interesting to ask people to write a recipe for the potion to 'brew fame', give it a name, say what ingredients are in it (and why- what each ingredient does) write a method and possibly include a picture?

Hey got a kinda strange but interesting idea

Okay I will try to explain it

Make a Polyjuice Potion-like you'll already want to have a person in mind- drink it and turn into someone you always wanted to be and write about how you go through either an hour or the day pretending to be them.

Like can you pull it off being someone else? Or maybe if you can't do it that well at being the person. I know it's confusing but it seems like such a cool assignment.

Okay example is say I want to be Snape for a day- I'd drink the potion, and I only have an hour so in that time I have to write about how things go, like experiences, and stuff being in the form of Snape for an hour. I have to record any side effects and record any slipups or mishaps while trying to pull off a believable Snape.

Hope that helps explain it-it's a cool idea in my head but it's hard describing it in words :D

a lesson on famous potions would be interesting. Like veritaserum, draught of the living death, ect. then an essay saying why each is important?

we could come up with poition ingrediants and say what potions you could use that in

Potions in Movies---

1. Name 3 movies in which someone dabbling in Potions played a part in it.

2.Name 3 animated/anime type movies where a potion was used and explain whether or not it was relavent to the movie's storyline.

3. Make up a movie- base the plot around a potion of your choice either a Harry Potter one or one made up from your imagination. Give a summary/overview of the movie noting important things such as is the potion used for good or bad purposes? what is the result of the consequences for use of the potion? word count should be at least 200 words.

Pretend you are the Potions Master/Mistress. Make a drawing of what your Potion's classroom would look like. The more detail the better. Make a description below your picture stating what is what and why things are placed where they are in your picture. The more detailed you are, the highest number of points you get. Consider such things as potion's you have sitting around, why are they placed there? what about decorations? etc.

1. What is your favorite potion in the Harry Potter world?

2. If you could make any potion in the world, what would it be and why? Give a detailed explaination.

Write a Poem about either one or many potions and try to include facts as well as creativity. Be descriptive and have fun with it. The more effort and words put into it, the more housepoints you get.

Suggestion #5 Potions of the Dark Side

1. If Snape was evil, he could supply Voldemort with many dangerous potions. Which one do you think Voldemort would favor the most and why?

2. Describe what the side effects would be if you found an unlabeled potion that looked like water and you drank it. Think of what properties and ingredients would give it its 'transparent' appearance. What happens? Are there good side effects? Bad? Why did you actually drink an unlabeled potion? Edit: class suggestion used.

I like Brunettes love potion idea. We could come up with the ingrediants to make it and then write a story about how we used it, how we got the person to take it, who we used it on and the possible bad things that could happen when using it.

Maybe our next discussion could be on Felix Felicis, since the Hogwarts students are taught to brew it, even though it can have addictive effects.

Okay...ummm.... I kinda got this idea from Neville's parents. Maybe there could be a class where we have to make up a cure for exposure to the Cruciatus curse. We could write the recipe and tell why we used this ingredient or that ingredient.

Here I have 2 suggestions:

1- We could invent our own potion and tell:
(don't forget to name it)
-what it is
-give details about it
-what it is used for
-how you make it
-how long does it take to make it
-the ingredients
-What is it's antidote
etc..

2- Create a potion that can kill Voldemort.
It's a bit the same as the first one,
it's all your own things.

aww wow I like that idea XD erm maybe we could make a dangerous potion or a potion that went wrong.

I know you said you wanted a class discussion for your first lesson of the term, Kate... so I've been thinking.

What would you say to a basic refresher course, where for two days you have a game of hangman up. You can use any of the potions either discussed or invented in this class over the terms. Then, as homework, you have to give basic information of all the hangman answers that the entire class solved.

So, let's say we get 10 puzzles right within those two days. We'd have those 10 answers that we'd have to research by going back to old class threads and give a bit of information.

Some suggestions:

* Discussion class - Is creating potions to help with every day life cheating?

* Invent a potion to make snape laugh - remembering that it would take something special to do this!!

* Write a potion biography A-Z with each letter having one new potion
created by you. Each potion entry has to include the name, the ingredients and the outcome plus any possible side effects

I'm not sure if it can be used with potions but it's possible.

I was thinking that there could be a challenge (like the challenge chamber) only There is one student from each house. But there would be a variety like it wouldn't just be people who are best with doing transfiguration stuff, or just people who know a lot of magical creatures. There would also be a lot of challenges. Maybe 20 challenges per say. The teachers would also decide who is with who (people could ask to be with someone but the teachers would have the final say. I hope you like my idea I will be posting it in several subjects because it would not just consist of DADA or Charms or Transfiguration ect.
