| The Host is Stephenie Meyer's new book - out at the beginning of May. - Quote :
- The Host takes place after a bodysnatchers-style invasion of the earth. We (the humans) lost. Our narrator is Wanderer, one of the invading "souls," who struggles to navigate all the bewildering challenges that come with living inside a human body. She was forewarned about these challenges—the overwhelming emotions, the stunning physical responses, the glut of senses, the too vivid dreams and memories... However, there was one challenge Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body, human survivor Melanie Stryder, refuses to fade away into oblivion the way she should. Melanie lingers as an angry presence in Wanderer's head, holding on to her human secrets and filling Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, another human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for the man she's never met. Outside forces combine to make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, and, working together, they set off to search for the man they both love. It's possibly the first love triangle that only involves two bodies.
On Stephenie's website it's billed as "Science fiction for people who don't like science fiction", and it's an adult novel. Is anyone planning on getting it when it's out? I reckon I'll get a copy, it sounds pretty good and an interesting plot.

| I've not read the first chapter yet (it wouldn't load on my PC), but is it similar in writing style to Twilight or completely different?
I'm going to get the book because I can't imagine anything written by Stephenie would be bad, not after three such amazing books!

| It very similar to the writing style of Twilight, I mean it is Stephenie Meyer there is no mistaking that. The style is only different because it is a sci-fi book, but it still holds true with the element of romance.
It seems to be a little bit more fast paced than Twilight, of course it could appear that way because the chapters on her site go from the prologue straight into chapter 4.
All I can say for sure is that from the prologue/chapter 4 this book looks to be another instant favorite.
From what I've seen I can't see any reason why any fan of Twilight wouldn't love this book.

XD My friend is a manager at Barnes and Noble here in Norman and I'm trying to get his store to do midnight releases for the Twilight books... so far no luck.

| *Steal's Snape_Luffer's signature- everyone knows David Cook loves JUST me!* XD Thank you, Kaylee, for reading The Host!! I've been waiting and waiting for someone else to rea it. I was soooo surprised that I loved it as much as I did. I confess, I love Twilight, but because the characters of Bella and Edward are a bit Mary Sueish it's hard to tell if Stephenie Meyer is a good writer or just a lucky one. Well, now I can say that she is a very talented writer! I loved the plot of The Host, so happy with the ending (although I thought of it before the rest of the characters which is a bit annoying as it totally made sense to do what they did). My only problem with the book? I truly hate the name Wanda... XD | |

| Lol we'll be anxiously waiting for you to comment Streamers... *hugs Ian* I guess this is more of a question for Kaylee until other people read the book lol but how do you imagine the characters to look like? I've been wondering that myself as I reread the book for the 5th time lol Although I must say I dont really agree with who Stephanie Meyer said she had in mind...well at least not Jared and Ian xD - Quote :
- With "The Host," I think the actors could be really big names. That would be cool. I'd love to see Robert Redford put on a beard and be Jeb; he would be amazing. ... Matt Damon has some very Jared-esque qualities, and then [I'd love to see] Casey Affleck as Ian and Ben Affleck as Kyle. Imagine the interplay.
Some other fan had some interesting ideas..Camilla Bella for Melanie (who looks young to me but they said she's the right age) James Franco for Jared (who I could actually see) and Channing Tatum for Ian...(which would be soo hot) lol but if these were true...can someone point me to the caves cause I want to live there! xD Edit: Stephanie Meyer did say that if she could she'd love to write sequels for the Host - Spoiler:
Called "The Soul" and then another called "The Seeker" Do you think they'll all still be from Wanda's point of view cause then the last one sounds kinda menacing if it's refering to her...

| Ohh it was so awesome. Heartbreaking in some parts, and utterly gorgeous in others; the writing I fell in love with in Twilight has returned! Look, I like Edward and all, but what I really loved about twilight was the raw emotion. I went through Twilight either crying, choked up, or grinning like an idiot, and I was pleasantly astonished that her writing was so powerful. Then I thought that maybe that was just luck, because her next book wasn't...as good. Hey, it just wasn't. It had too little of that crucial element, whatever it is. But ahh, now in The Host, all that exposed feeling was so completely and utterly back, and it blew my breath away. Also, of course, I'm a romantic sap, and I looovveeed this line: - Spoiler:
'Ian squeezed my hand and leaned in to whisper through all the hair. His voice was so low that I was the only one who could hear. "I held you in my hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful."'
Awww.
Moving on, the concept was a bit strange, and I was surprised that the aliens call themselves souls. If they are souls, then what is inside humans that keeps them...who they are? What was keeping Melanie there after Wanderer (yep, I dislike the name 'Wanda' too) was inserted? Surely Melanie is some sort of life force as well? So anyway, I just thought it confusing that Stephenie would want to refer to them as souls, but whatever, that's her business.
I also liked how she made Wanderer be so gentle. Too often the heroine of the story is free-spirited and wild and daring and that's wonderful, but also unrealistic for everyone to be that way. Some people are just quieter and gentler, and I'm glad that sort of person is getting attention for a change.
So. Yeah. Those are my first thoughts. *grins* *huggles Ian* *huggles Jared*

| That line was one of the best Streams *nods in agreement*
As far as who I think would be good if they made a movie - because yeah I don't agree with Stephenie's choices either. For Jared I'm seeing more of Jensen Ackles - he's hot, plus he can pull of the tan look, and he's broody and has a very expressive face. I love Jensen and I don't like Jared, so for me to pick him for the character he must be right LoL
For Ian - Channing Tatum wouldn't be half bad - actually it would be super hot. But I think the whole Casey & Ben Affleck thing could kind of work. Plus Casey is a cutie-pie LoL
I haven't really thought about Melanie yet - once I have more of an idea I will get back to you on that one
In response to the other two books:
- Spoiler:
Yes I do think if they were titled that they could still very well be from Wanda's perspective (ahhh I hate that name as well - just typing it irks me lol) The Soul of course could be Wanderers struggle to get used to being her self and trying to understand why her and a few of her other souls are the way they are. (not being able to separate themselves from the humans.)
As far as 'The Seeker' goes - in the second book they may come up against another rival seeker who isn't as easy to get past or to stop as the first one was. And it could be the final battle before the souls like Wanda and the humans can finally be free. But those are just ideas - I'm really hoping she does turn this into a series - I'm not done hearing about Wanderer and Ian - or even Jared and Melanie for that matter!!

| yeah she said she has outlines written out but she'll only write it if she has time cause she does have Forever Dawn and Midnight Sun to write first... - Spoiler:
I also read that originally Stephanie Meyer intended for Wanda to still be hung up on Jared and only Jared. But she said as she wrote it, Jared started annoying her a bit lol and Ian seemed to demand a better ending than the one she had planned xD and the Ian in her mind just wouldn't be ignored...lol
Thank goodness for that! I, for one, like it soo much better this way. For more reasons than one lol

| I read this on the ferry during the journey home from France yesterday. Oh my God, I loved it! It was totally different to what I expected, but in a good way. I think I cried through the last 100 or so pages... - Spoiler:
As soon as Wanda (I hate the name, too) told Doc what she had planned I was sobbing and I didn't stop until the end when I realised that she wasn't dead.
I was totally rooting for Ian/Wanda all the way through. I'm not sure how we were supposed to perceive Jared. Were we supposed to wind up liking him or not? I didn't like him at all and I was very glad when Ian turned out to be the one Wanda loved.
The plot was very original - at least, I've never seen anything like it before. And Stephenie has proved she is a good writer and not just a writer with one good story. I really hope there are sequels. Despite the 600-odd pages I want more!

Hey Duckie, you gotta understand that Jared went through a nightmare thinking he was the only person in the world left, and then he met Melanie and was thrilled, and then he lost Melanie, and then he got her back, but she wasn't herself...he was a bit crazy. Entirely understandable, given the situation...he just cracked. I felt sorry for him more than anything else, he seemed to be having a really hard time of it...then again, he's one of those people who makes things more intense than they need to be, which is partly why it was so extra hard for him. His intense character isn't necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, it just is.
Er, my point is, I couldn't dislike him. I think we never saw him at his best.
Now Ian, on the other hand... *huggles Ian*

I mean, I love Twilight, but this was sooooooo much better written with such a deeper plot. And as for the characters...*huggleclings Ian* Honestly can't complain - love love love it!!!

I just loved it everything about it I couldnt actually put it down and my mother had to take it of me on holiday so I would do something. I just loved Ian I completly fell in love with him. At first I had a thing for jared and her brother but Ian he was so simply romantic and perfect.
