You can either design it by hand or on the computer.

Before I stared my wood project, I placed on my safety goggles and ear plugs. Now comes the fun part in deciding what to make. I decided to create a shelving unit that will help hold all my quidditch gear. Next I decided what kind of wood I would like to use. Red Pine is good as it helps in wrap deduction and is very sturdy. It also has a great finish when you stain it. Once I picked my wood, I decided to use 2 x4s as it’s very sturdy and will make sure my gear won’t topple it.

Once I picked my type and size of wood, I made measurements and then cut them with my handsaw. Once I have two even columns for the sides then 3 even shelves layers; then comes the sanding part. Sand the wood till its nice and smooth. Make sure you follow the grain of the wood and continue. Once I finished I decided to use angle brackets to help hold my shelving layers together with the columns. Screws work the best, as nails tend to bend.

Then when I finished placing all the pieces together, I decided that I would stain the finish and help bring out the natural wood contrasts. That been said it’s a good idea to put on gloves and use a clean cloth or paint brush to help you with the staining. Once I finished with two coats I set it aside to dry. Now I have a finished completed shelving unit. I screwed it to my wall and now it proudly holds all my Ravenclaw gear.
