You will be allowed a maximum of six posts each, and you may use known spells from HP, or spells of your own creation.

You will not be marked purely on how long your posts are, yet you will be marked on the following;

* Eye for surroundings
* Defensive and offensive spells (both what spells are used and how well they are used)
* Knowledge of spells
* Eye for detail (both your own posts and others posts)
* Inventiveness and creativeness as a whole

Check the main forum for the howlers containing the duelling rules and how to duel guide. Please avoid one sentence posts. Try to develop your duelling posts into more than one paragraph.

Matthew woke earlier from his sleep, something about the way the sun shone on his face woke him up, he had found that one side of his face was warm and the other as cold as ice... Typical, nothings ever just right is it? he thought to himself. He knew he had a duel to prepare for, but that wasn't for hours yet, and he didn't think that he would be able to class this time in the morning as 'Not sneaking about the corridors at night' he didn't fancy seeing snape on the way down, even if the duels where legal via school rules. The man frightened him to death, he wasn't going to give Snape any excuse to pick on him...

Getting up now seemed much harder than it had before, it might have been six o'clock but it felt like three in the morning. Although knowing that his duel started in two hours was enough for I’m to think straight. Matthew heard moving downstairs which must mean people actually got up at that hour on a Saturday morning, stupid stupid people Matthew thought as he climbed out of bed and stretched, throwing his arms in the air and yawning. This was going to be one long day.

Matthew pulled on his clothes, his green top that had a hood on it, of course people of the 'older category' would call it a hoodie, it was not! It was sleeveless, therefore not a hoodie. examining himself in the mirror he smiled, the tacksuit bottoms made him look a little 'chavy' but he was all about the comfort in these situations. Lastly Matthew dug deep into the trunk at the end of his bed and found his old tennis shoes, ones that he'd barely even worn, so not only was he prepared and comfortable, he was stylish too. Taking one last look in the mirror Matthew walked out the door and closed it behind him, purposely to wake up Bobbette who'd been snoring all night, he thought he'd better get his own back....

The stairs that went from the common room to the dorms was longer and more narrow than Matthew had noticed before, this was only a good thing, the walls were the only thing that kept him standing up now, he was so tired and ten times worse without his morning coffee... his addiction was unhealthy, well so Madam Pomfrey told him, he hoped he didn't have to go there after the duel, she would eat him alive if she smelt one wif of coffee from him.

Entering the Great Hall was a welcoming sight, Matthew was one of the few that had signed up for the duels in Hufflepuff and although the duel was an individual thing everyone still hoped for him to win. People from Hufflepuff watched him as he walked on, of course Matthew milked it, he strutted with his head up in the sky. Walking more like a supermodel than a 14 year old boy.

Sitting down Matthews' stomach grumbled at the smell of the food, he just wanted to eat and leave with a cup of coffee. Grabbing a bowl of cornflakes Matthew ate the lot in what seemed like a split second, people watched him keenly for some sort of speech, something Matthew was giving them no matter how proud of himself he was. He grabbed a cup and filled it with coffee, looking at his watch as his hand moved, 6:30, good, that gives me time to think of someway to trap my opponent. he smiled at his thought and got up, the coffee firmly in his hand.

The stairs that lead from the Great hall to the dungeon were rather the same as the ones in the Hufflepuff common room, although this time Matthew was not thankful for it, the smell of the coffee had woken him up and the enclosed spaces were now becoming a little claustrophobic. Matthew took a deep breath as he saw the end of the stairs. He jumped the last step and walked down the cold dungeon, holding on tight to his cup for the warmth. Matthew saw the door of the room he was supposed to meet the 'unknown' opponent in... He smiled and broke into a jog to get to the door.

Matthew reached the door and then entered, he poked his head in to see if his opponent was already there... the person wasn’t and there was no spells and charms cast around the place to try and fool him...
Good now I'm first here and I'll just go and sit on the bench and plan my battle... He thought as he walked over to the bench and sat down, he was already in deep thought.

The room was circular and had no pillars, this kind of room had advantages and disadvantages. It was going to be difficult to dodge any spells because the room had no secret little hiding places, there was nothing there even to protect himself with... all he had was his wand. On the other side though his opponent had nowhere to hide either... Maybe this wasn't so bad after all?
