new members

Due to some members asking to be sorted and then vanishing, what about a rule to say that a new member can not post to be sorted until they have made at least 10/20 decent posts on the site?

really i think the number should be higher, maybe to a second year level? dunno, i just don't like people showing up and then leaving, that would be one to debait about,

I'm split two ways on this one.

Whilst I like the idea to an extent, I can see problems with it in that if they don't get a house soon after joining, a member may not really feel like part of the community...

I don't know...it seems to me that getting sorted is one of the things you do first on sites like this.

Perhaps it'd be better to hear from some of our newer members - if the situation had been like this when you joined, what would you have thought?

Personally, I would have been "OH HELL NO - Keep your site!" because it does sound a bit "If you don't post, then........" :D

Here's my opinion:

I think that if a new member makes no post within a month they should be deleted.

If a member has under 100 posts and isn't active for [insert time span here] they should be deleted.

Things like that because there are like a kajillion people who signed up but aren't active. Just what I was thinking.

This is on another website.. Wizard-City.com, its not good because you cant post in certain forums on that website, but it could be good here

I don't think the main idea is sorting anymore though. I think it's minimum posts thats the main issue. I personally think it could go either way. There really is no harm in keeping inactive members and theres no harm in deleting them either because, honestly, they probably won't find out.

A good solution would be to e-mail or try to get in contact with the inactive members and ask them if they want to keep their account if that's possible.

Hm, I don't really think this would be a very good idea since, as I believe has already been said, it might rather annoy new members instead of giving them an incentive to post ^^"

I dunno, I think we should find other incentives for them to remain active :/ .. what about, oh I don't know... Newbie Day in the chat box once a week or so? Since the CB is (well, at least when I'm on xD) pretty often empty and I think direct chat, as opposed to forum posting, is a better way for people to get to know others, especially in the beginning. So mmyeah. It would be a good thing to make a .. chatty day, once in a while. :D

I think it is a good idea. Personally, if I recall correctly, I did an introductory post in the Hogwarts Express first. Then I think I popped over to the games. After a bit, I got sorted. Again, that's if I remember correctly. I wouldn't have been bothered by this rule, but I would have possibly had difficulty deciding what to post.

When I joined this site, I was bored and started to surf the net. I posted for sorting and then went to the RP forum. I soon got addicted to that and didn't care that the sorting was a bit late due to me joining the day after christmas. I think I already had over that number of posts...

I know you did Shadow!! lol im unsure it really annoys me when people just vanish, so I think like someone else said, if someone hasn't posted within a month if they're under 2nd year, they get an warning and their account is deleted something like a week after...

hm i think it's better to be sorted first since that'll give them a motivation to do something...not just surf around the site..

plus they can visit the houses and have encouragements and welcomes from the other members...

I agree with her ^...

I was on a site where you needed a certaint number of points to get to certaint areas, and it was so annoying. Poplpe didnt really accept you till you got there.... and the number was hard to reach with all the areas you had restricted..... If that had happened here, I might not have joined......

I dont think it is a good idea to delete member who havent visited in a while as loads come back - as we have seen lately.

As for the main vote here, I think that we should keep it the same. Having never been sorted as I was one of the first on the site I cant comment personally though I think having too strict rulings to begin with will deter people from staying
