| I was looking thruogh the member list, and I came across some poeple who joined, but then never came on again. That is kinda annoying to me. Liek can we really brag that we have 2000 memebers if only 100 of them are active? I say we have better controll on this Some ideas are: 1. If you sign up and dont come back on within one month, your account gets deleated. 2. If you have under 100 posts and leave for more than sixmonths, you get deleated. stuff like that. What do you think? | |

| Generally I'd think it would make sense to 'get rid' of those inactive members, but on the other hand they do come back sometimes. I wasn't online for half a year or something a while ago, and now I'm happily being active again - I guess I'd have been rather annoyed if I'd have been deleted while I was gone.
Plus Elfie (I think it was her) pointed out elsewhere already that if members were deleted, there would be 'guest posts' all around, and I can imagine that as being really unnerving. So it'd probably be best to leave it as it is, even if it isn't perfect :/

| Most certainly not, because they might come back after a time. And seeing lots of guest posts everywhere would look stupid.
Plus, there might be people who really have got some problem in real life, which is why they are inactive for a while here and, with all due respect, I think deleting them would send out a message of the type "Who cares about your personal life? You should have been online nevertheless, everything else is unimportant!" ..... at least that's how I would react if I were to be deleted because of inactivity.

| Its not so much the inactive people that annoy me. After all, maybe they did have some serious issue that prevented them from coming on. ..and the guest posts would get annoying.
Its more the people who have signed up, yet they never actually made any posts at all, never acutally came on the site afterwards. I think the people with zero posts and have never been on the site could be deleted, it wouldnt interfere with any posts, since they had none, and if they never came on the site once since signing up theres a pretty good chance they're not coming back. Or they forgot and would probably make a new account anyway so the old one could be deleted. After a certain time though. You wouldnt want to delete a person's account who just signed up and was planning on participating the next day or something only to find their account was deleted because they didnt post right away..

| Personally, I have known at least one person who joined then as soon as he was sorted into Hufflepuff, he stopped coming by. That really annoyed me to be honest. I think that it would be good to base it on a case-by-case basis. Maybe if they join and do one post in a year, delete their account, but let people know of that stipulation from the start. I also know of one person who said she would not continue if she were to be sorted into Hufflepuff. That particularly bothers me because I think that's a positively silly reason to not maintain membership, especially since the houses are not anything like they are within the books. | |

I actually agree with all of this. Members who signed and just never post should have their account deleted after a month, no matter what. Those who asked to be sorted and never returned should have the 3 months benefit of doubt then it's deleting time. All others i say let them me as we never know when they can rise from the underworld.

| We already delete members accounts who have signed up but havent activated their accounts properly after a certain length of time. I have always said that I would prefer not to delete members accounts if they become innactive as, even as recently as this last month, we have old members returning after a large break and I wouldnt want to deter any members from returning as all are valuable and welcome.
With deleting members who have asked to be sorted and never posted, I still have the same issue about deleting members. I have often been part of a site, posted couple of times and then either forgot or something has come up and I dont return for a couple of months. All members who sign up have a newsletter sent to them each month (or nearly each month). A possibility is to put at the bottom of the newsletter something like: 'if you wish your account to be deleted, please email the HE email....'
Going through and deleting members one by one really isnt an option at the moment with a lot of work on the site and otherwise, it really isnt practical at this precise time for either me or Amy, and then of course you do have the fact of deleting members who may return.
As mentioned above, all completely innactive accounts which have not been activated are deleted after a short time which clears some of the problem.
Perhaps to help with fairness of houses, which I believe that this could be one thing which is on many members minds, I will go back to sorting the way I used to, though it will take me a little time to sort through each houselist.
Please know that me and Amy will discuss this futher, and feel freeto continue commenting.

| What was the old way? I personally like the way sorting is done. I never would have been a gryffie if it were based on some sort of quiz or something. Of course, I like all the houses, so I think I would have been happy either way. | |

| It has never been a quiz though i used to have my own list and sorted in a way that enabled each house to have around hame number of active newbies. Of course, this isnt a failsafe way, though we do try now to get houses equal. | |

| I think we should leave them. I left H.E. for about a year when I only had a few posts and now I couldn't imagine what life would be without this site.
I think we should just keep it as it is, yes it can be annoying but it happens on every site.

| I agree. I mean, inactive members who join, and then only post to be sorted should be deleted. On the other hand, member's that once were very active eg. the people who Pickles mentioned should be kept. Also, I think Brunette (holly's) account sound be kept as a rememberance thing.
