Magical Menagerie


The Magical Menagerie is a magical creature shop that, besides selling magical creatures, also offers advice on animal care and health.

Shadow walked in, meaning to get a pet for the coming school year. She browsed the cages, looking for something friendly.

Natalie walked into the pet store, then walked out, remembering that the dude in there attacks people when they come into the store when it closes.

Shadow looked up from a bored looking cat to see Natalie come in.
"Hello."

"Hi...how're things?" Natalie asked.

"They're... ok. How about you?" Shadow said.

"Good...exams and all that...can't wait," said Natalie excitedly.

Shadow smiled slightly at Nat's enthusiasm.

"So...what are you wanting to buy in here? Puffskein...owl....cat?" Natalie asked her friend.

"I don't know yet, just something friendly." Shadow said. She was trying to hide the fact that she didn't know much about this dimension's animals.

"I suggest a puffskein then...it's really cute and its basically easy to clean after," said Natalie.

"Er... which ones are they?" Shadow asked, embarrassed.

"The fluffy one's over there," smiled Natalie, pointing to a little cage of small, fluffy, yellow-coloured animals.

Shadow quickly hid her embarrassment.
"Thanks!" She said, walking over to look at the little balls of fur.

"Or you can get the baby ones in Weasley Wizard Weezes," said Natalie.

Shadow had one sitting in her palm before watching it hop slowly up her arm. She shook her head, returning it to the cage.
"As cute and friendly as they are, I'm terrified of standing on it."

"Oh don't worry....they make squeeling sounds so high pitched that it draws yoy away from them if your about to stand on then," said Natalie

"Yeah..." Shadow said. She reached out to stroke a dark looking creature, but jumped back, three long scratches down her hand. She glanced at them and healed them quickly.
"Not the friendliest of the bunch then."

Eliza and Zeke both walked in.
"Small world, huh?" She joked.
"We've come for a look..."
"We're browsing..."
"If we come across something cool, we'll get one."

Shadow looked up.
"Hello, I'm trying to find something friendly, OUCH!" Shadow leapt back from a cage, holding her arm close to her.

"Oh...that was a baby fire-crab..." said Natalie, "they're weird with people....oh my goodness look, I kneazel," Natalie pointed to a ginger cat in a cage, "he's so cute...I might get him."

Shadow knelt down beside the cage of a small black puppy.
"He's nice."

"He's really cute," said Natalie to Shadow, picking up the kneazels cage and bringing it up to the desk. She bought it.

"I think I'll name him....Rex," said Natalie, "he looks like a Rex."

Shadow bought the little dog, smiling.
"I'm going to name him Meran, after the second in command in my dimension."

Natalie smiled.

"Is he a nice...er...person?" Natalie asked.

"He's ok." Shadow said. "A bit mad sometimes."

Eliza and Zeke laughed.
"We'll just have have a look around."

"Mad...as in....crazy?" Natalie asked.

"No, he was obsessed with the wellbeing of the dimension." Shadow said, scratching the puppy behind his ears.

"Oh...that can't be good," said Natalie.

"It's not too bad to be honest." Shadow said.

"Suuuure it's not," said Natalie.

Shadow raised an eyebrow.

Natalie raised an eyebrow back.

Shadow gave Natalie a death glare.

Natalie took a step back.

Shadow smiled slightly, wiping the glare off her face.

Natalie smiled again.

Shadow began to look at collars for Meran.

Then Zeke saw what he was looking for. A beautiful cat, full of autumn colours. How he longed to rub his face in that fur. He bought her immeadiatly.

Meran began to bark at the cat but Shadow morphed into a wolf and told him to stop. The poor dog was terrified at the huge wolf in front of him.

The cat was quite big, about the same size as Meran. The cat looked at Meran distainfuly, then looked away as if she couldn't be bothered to waste her energy.
"I need a name for her..."

"This is weird," said Natalie, grinning...this was her kind of scene.

"What is?" Zeke asked, but Eliza was looking around. If she couldn't find an animal, she and Zeke would share.

Shadow gave the puppy a small cuff around the ears before morphing back to human form and picking him up.

"He's cool.." Eliza said, "But I prefer cats."

"My soul self is a wolf, so I guess I'm a dog person. Your cat is beautiful though." Shadow said.

"Thank you." Zeke said, and smiled. Pyro perched on the cat's shoulders and it purred.

Shadow smiled gently, and turned to look for things that Meran would need.

Suddenly Eliza's and Zeke's forehead's felt like they were bursting with pain. They tried to conceal it, but it wrenched a little moan from their lips. And, simultaneously, they heard it together.

And the pain went as quickly as it had come.
