| I figured that you can't have a book forum without mentioning William Shakespeare! Love his work or hate his work, it still exists, and many of us have either studied his work or are still studying his work in schools and colleges.
Personally, when I studied shakespeare in school - I hated him! We studied Romeo and Juliet, A midsummers nights dream and McBeth - and they bored me!
It wasnt until I studied King Lear in my Arts degree that I began to understand Shakespeares works. I played the role of Regan in the king lear play, and we set it in the 80's - with music! We brought his words to life and now I don't hate it so much - I would even go so far as to say that his work is great (though you would never find me reading it by choice!)
What do you all think of his works?

| I love Shakespeare! Okay, the fact that it's mostly drama and tragedy, tragedy and drama can be quite annoying, but still interesting. I love Romeo and Juliet, not because it's a romantic story, but because they show a love so strong that nothing can put them apart, not even death! The Balcony scene is the best ^^
I also read Much ado about nothing and I liked it. It was a bit confusing, but once you get it, it's really good. And King Lear too, and MacBeth! ^^ I love the fact that even if it's a normal book or a play, the characters always seem to be talking poetry, it's always so flowery ^^

| I have a book with Shakespeare plays- not the real plays, but short stories of them (get it? lol). They were put in the kind of language I could understand, so I wasn't that confused reading them. I like his comedies best, as they are usually kind of twisted and have many different aspects. My favorites are Comedy of Errors and Twelfth Night :D But I saw the play "The Two Gentelmen of Verona" during acting camp... I'm sorry to say I left halfway through it because I had "other plans." | |

| Well, I'm attempting to read Romeo and Juliet right now. I've kind of gotten used to the way he writes and am going to read Hamlet, McBeth, and King Lear (they all came in a pack) afterwards. Maybe I'll take a break from Shakespeare, though. We read Romeo and Juliet this year at school, so there I'll get a better understanding of it, I suppose. | |

| At school I'm Romeo in the play and so reading the script and researching the play is exhausting cuz of the speeches and the language. And if I read it to long I start speaking like that heh.
But I do like his storylines and I wouldn't mind reading more if I could get past the 'thou's and stuff ending in th's.

Plus my brother was in a play, and i was there when one of the set designers said 'macbeth'...then i had to leave...but my brother told me that the rehersal that afternoon after hte person had said 'macbeth' was the worst rehersal they had ever had, and he nearly hurt himself falling into some stairs and scenery!

I've pretty much studied it throughout my educational career, and it's been my favourite parts of any lessons. The language is a little difficult at times, but I've never come across anything quite like it :D

| i love shakespear xD as i've said. in drama we are doing shakespearian monolouges XD i have paulina's from winter's tale. it's the one that goes "what studied torments, tyrant, hast for me? what wheels? racks? fires? what flaying? boiling in leads or oils? what old or newer torture must i recieve, whose every word deserves to taste of thy most worst?" and then it ends "a thousand knees, ten thousand years, naked, fasting, upon a barren mountain, and still winter in storm perpetual, could not move the gods to look that way thou wert." *squees* i love it to pieces, especially the bit about "thy by-gove fooleries were but spices of it!"and "thy tyranny, together working with thy jealousies... ...o, think what they have done and then run mad indeed-stark mad!" | |
