| Raistlin The Wizard Raistlin sat in a dark corner in the backstage. He could hear the cheers of the crowd in the gym. He looked at the room, empty, no teammates, no supporters, just him. Slytherin’s final stand. He had worked so hard for that medal, stretched every muscle of his body, suffered, getting closer and closer to the final victory but now he was alone, he was going to fall on the last part because he was alone and he couldn’t make up for that.
Still, he was going to show up, he’d stand up tall even if alone. Before exiting to the place where’d make his final performance he quickly went through all previous tasks…
“Exactly 4,5 feet from the springboard Raistlin started the pre-flight with his round-off, starting as a cartwheel but joining his feet together while upside ending up facing the direction he had came from. The round off is an effective way to transfer all of the power of the forward run into backward tumbling. Raistlin followed with the Back Handspring, with the legs together all time, arms overhead, Raistlin jumped backward while arching his back until his hands touched the table pushing with his hands as forcefully as he managed propelling him in the air, starting that way the flight itself. Reaching his arms upwards overhead, while at the same time, jumping upward his legs. After a brief stretched position, he pulled his knees upward and the body rotated backwards executing a ‘flip’. Seeing the grounded Raistlin prepared to make the landing, his feet touched the mattress and he felt all the tension in his body, screaming for him to bend his knees.”
Then he had tied first, the first step in his ascension. Then came round 2…
“…he was moving, swinging, flipping with the same flexibility as women, helped by the fact he wasn’t very tall or muscled but healthily fit. Continuing with a Cast handstand he arched his body in a way no body should arch…”
First place came quickly and now he was topping the rank. Round 3 came swiftly…
“Balance Beam… Photo (It doesn't say in the rules it should be a photo of a professional balance beam user and as this is a woman's sport and I wanted a male contribution) … Artwork (I'm going out of the box again. It is said an artwork depicting 'balancing', so I made a poor atempt to draw the Famous Balancing Rocks) … Graphic (Not Everyone Can Balance to Victory)…”
But he could and so he did. Closer and closer… and round 4 came with the touch of swing…
“Hip hop, up, right, down, left… Pop, right, up, left, down… Samba, left, down. Right, up… Techno, down, up, right, left … “ King of the floor, could I ever fall now? Round 5 came with a jump. He had done that and now the final round, not many people had done round 5 so even alone maybe he could stand a chance at winning the individual medal.
Stepping out the Slytherin locker room he welcomed the lights and roaring sounds from the crowd. In front of him was a series of apparatus he had to perform in, the floor, the pommel horse, the rings, the vault, the parallel bars and finally the horizontal bar.
Raistlin first headed to the floor exercise. The floor measured 12 x 12 metres, with an additional safety border of 1 metre. The performance area possessing surface elasticity to allow power during take-offs and softness during landings and the cover material does not cause skin burns. He waited for the music to start even though men are not allowed music in the floor exercise he awarded himself that right as he was the only men in the competition and he’d be at disadvantage because music always improves everything…
Raistlin knew he couldn’t exceed the 70 seconds so he used them the best he could, demonstrating all of his strength, flexibility and balance in his routine. Sommersaults, twists and leaps none was left out and all were marked with a bit of his own originality.
Catching his breath he took a minute and then headed to the pommel horse with a height of 1.05 metre, 1.30 metre length at the top and 45 cm distance between pommels. With a smooth continuous chain of circular and pendulum type swings, double leg circles, scissor movements and undercuts using all parts of the horse Raistlin landed on the mattress quite pleased with how everything was going so far.
Another minute to catch his breath and he ready himself to tame the 2,55 metres high Rings. In a variety of movements demonstrating strength, support and balance, Raistlin performed a series of swings and holds with both forward and backward elements ending it with an acrobatic dismount.
His arms were burning now, he was stretching himself to the limit but he just had to keep on moving for he was only halfway through it. The vault was next, luckily for him one of the apparatus he felt most comfortable with. That much proved to be true as he managed clean and powerful movements combining height and length with two rotations and finished in a controlled landing.
Almost, almost done, don’t give up now. Raistlin’s body was aching everywhere but his will was too wild to be restrained. The parallel bars required similar skills as the rings, Raistlin managed to give the audience a good performance but for a judge trained eye, they could see his movements were getting stiff and less precise, still he managed a good landing and raised some good exclamations from the public.
Looking at the horizontal bar Raistlin knew he had reached his limit, he couldn’t do much more without rest, 4 gymnastics performances within a minute difference that was more than many could handle and he knew he tried the last one it’d be a lame performance and worst he might hurt himself for life. Turning to the judged he made a small bow and left the place, with his head held high and never looking back. He had done as much as he could it was up to the judges now, but it was searing him that he might fall short to his expectations to a gold medal when he had done so perfectly all the way long. | |
