GYMNASTICS : Group Gymnastics : Part 6/6 : RAVENCLAW

Rigby jogged lightly into the Ravenclaw Olympic dressing room, trying to keep her muscles warm and limber. She smile and waved at Elana, relieved to see the fellow Ravenclaw armed with cans of hairspray and glitter. Her hair was not easily tamed, but with enough chemicals it would behave. Rigby slipped out of her sweats and trainers. She smoothed her uniform out, happy with the blue and bronze leotard. She had purchased it especially for today.

"Hey, Elana! You look great! Can you help me pull my hair back tighter? I think it's just a little too loose." Rigby waited for Elana to work her special magic (no one made a tighter ponytail than Elana) and focused on the first Ravenclaw event. They would be starting on the floor routine. She was excited to be performing in front of such a large crowd. Rigby and her teammates had worked hard to get to this point. With only three medals to go around, one house would be left in the cold. She was determined that Ravenclaw would stand on the podiums.

"Do you think I should glitter up, or not? I am so nervous and excited, I might throw up. Or pee. Remind me to go before we get out there, okay?" The words shot so fast out of Rigby's mouth even she had trouble following what she was saying. Hopefully she wasn't freaking Elana out. Her nerves were crazy, but she would channel that energy into her routines. Rigby would just be a bit neuratic until then.

Alice dashed to the back stage area and started rushing to get ready. she quikly and silently slid on a light blue almost turquise leatard. With a silver trimming and stars randomly placed on it. She rushed over to the container of glitter fumbling to open the lid. Her hands were shaking and once she managed to open the lid glitter spilled everywere covering her feet with a sparkaly haze. She took in one deep breath and leaned down to brush some of it off her feet. With no luck she turned back to the container and tried to stay colm while putting it on. 1 obsticle down glitter only like 700 more to go, she thought to herself.

She starred at the rest of the supplies to get ready and sighed she almost had no idea what she was doing blanking out on the simpliest of tasks.

She reached for some sort of product. She realized it as the magic make your leatard not stick to your but stuff. She laughed at the first memory of useing it. those were the exact words her instructor used not exactly porfesinal. she applied it properly though there was really no need her leatard was an old hamydown that was outstreched and not exactly the best you could find but it was functional and that was what mattered.

She went over the routine in her head as she applied the makeup. The make up made her look like a pale barby doll and laughed once she saw herself.
"they should really make a pale barby it would be hallariuse" she said to herself wiping off only half the makeup.
"ok now focus no more goofing off" she said taking a deep breath infront of the mirror.
"ok lets go over are routine" she said keeping herself preocupied so she wouldnt freak out.

She walked out to the floor. Put the white powder on wich matched her skin color. She took a deep breath. Then one step at a time she walked onto the mat as the annoucers called her name.

"Alice Lovegood is aprouching the floor" was all she could here through her highly developed ears. Sheswollowed hard and then began.

and then stick it to them good she repeated in her head the words speading out of her ears.
She bounced around the mat in a dance like movement with turns and twist all over the place. She decorated the mat with the sparkles from her feet wish looked pretty neat but was not part of the plan.

once it came to the end of her quickly done routine she ended the straddle swing and dicided to add a front handspring. she came down from the high jumped handspring and landed feet platformed on the ground her knees unbent. she winced and then smiled to here about half the crowd cheer and the other half confused but eather way it was a victory for anyone. Unfortanitly she isnt anyone. She walked over to her team and sat down.

"owh "she yelled not careing who herd at the time. she rubbed her legs.

"that last move bad idea I forgot to bend my legs I jabbed my feet into the ground I think you can see the inprint from my feet" she said partacally explaning to herself what had happened. She streched her legs and then stood up wobbibly leged and hugged everyone on her team if they wanted to or not. Tears dripping down her face she sat down waiting for the pain to go away and hoped no one noticed. Wich probibly unlikly.

Gymnast: Rigby Dumbledore
Routine: Balance Beam
Music: Carnival of the Animals: The Aquarium


Rigby was first up on balance beam. Normally she hated going first, as the judges scores usually increased as the routines went by. But she was determined to set the pace for her fellow teammates. She walked over the the chalk stand, carefully layering her hands and feet in the powdery substance. She had decided not to use the springboard to get onto the balance beam. Instead she would begin the performance with a strength position.

Rigby walked up to the beam. When her music began she placed her hands on top and slowly and smoothly raised herself up in to a half stand up split, swinging into a full split, and then transitioning into a beam straddle. She swung up to a standing position, kicking up her back leg. She performed some basic, yet graceful, skills. Rigby was careful not to lose balance, to not bobble or hesitate.

The beam was hated by most gymnasts, that small slice of wood often felled even the most talented of gymnasts. Rigby loved it. Despite her usual balance problems, and fear of heights, she was able to put that all out of her mind during her performance. She did the first of her planned gymnastic skills. She flipped with ease on the beam, no balance checks, just smooth moves.

Up next was her spin, an easy enough move, but one of the skills most gymnasts fell on. You had to be precise in your turn, balanced on jut one part of one foot, and end up exactly where you started. No time to second guess herself, she spun. Rigby knew before she finished that she had hit the sweet spot. Her center of balance was perfect. Even when she wasn't on the beam, she felt a part of it.

She leaped in the air, turning direction, landing solidly. Rigby continued on, flipping here, jumping there, a leap, a layover, a few basic balance skills. She flipped over, landing on one foot, extending her back leg. The crowd cheered her on. She could here her teammates screaming her names. Her music could hardly be heard over the din. Rigby cleared her thoughts, and re-focused on her routine.

Rigby moved across the beam, extending her arms in graceful sweeps. She leaped across the beam, turning at the end. She pause a moment, taking in a deep breath, and then she was flying across the beam. When she hit the center she began to flip and tumble. She twirled in spun in the air, flying off the end of the beam. She landed with feet positively planted in the mat. Her arms when up, and she was waving and smiling to the cheering crowds. Whatever her score, Rigby knew she had delivered. Now it was up to the judges.

Routine: Vault
Music: Lost!




Rigby prepared for her vault. Somehow she had ended up doing back to back routines. She took the few spare minutes she had to stretch and jog in place. For the vault she needed to keep her muscles loose and elongated. She needed to have perfect body lines as she soared through the air. Finally her name was called and she began to chalk up.

Smiling at the audience, she looked down the 82 foot long mat before her. She mentally pictured herself landing, sticking it. Good air in, bad air out. She was ready. Rigby took off, running with power and speed. She kept her eyes on the spring board and pommel horse. Saw herself hitting them just right. She pumped her arms, picking up speed. She heard Coldplay playing in her mind's ear. She was in her happy place.

Rigby hit the spring board, she threw her self at the pommel horse, hitting it just right with her hands. She flipped over, twisting twice. She had built up so much power that she added in a half twist at the very last moment. Rigby landed hard. She struggled and ended up taking a small hop, which she tried to cover up. She hoped that her perfect form and power on the vault would make up for any deductions from the vault. As this was the final round, there was no second vault. Rigby was once again at the mercy of the judges. Her body had done what she had asked it to, so all she could do was take a quick rest before the next routine, which she had a feeling would be coming up sooner rather than later.

Routine: Uneven Bars
Music: Breakin' Up by Rilo Kiley


Hands on hips, Rigby stretched to each side, then swung her arms up over her head. She was sore from her last two back to back events, and she still had two more to go. At least she would be finishing with two of her favorites, first the uneven bars, and then the trampoline. She went to the chalk bowl and prepared the low bar with chalk. She then had one of the spotters lift her so that she could chalk the high bar. Everything was as perfect and as non-slippery as it was possibly get it.

Rigby supervised the placing of the spring board, planning on using it to go straight to the high bar. Some gymnasts like to start on the low bar and work their way up to the high bar. But she preferred to fly, and swinging on the high bar was the best way to acheive the
feeling of weightlessness. Her board was perfectly placed, and Rigby waited for the signal o start from the judges.

With a nod from them, and a quick smile and pose for the audience, Rigby ran to the springboard, jumping off it to the high beam. Instantly she was swinging, circling the bar and extending her body as far as possible so that she could keep her lines clean. She
concentrated on keeping her legs together as she soared over the bar, completing Tkacheve to geinger, hindorff to pack salto. Her movements were precise, and she had enough speed to make it look easy. It wasn't.

Transitioning to the low bar to complete the required release skills, she circled it briefly before returning to the high bar. She flipped her body around in a frenzy, getting ready for her dismount. Garnering enough power she flew off the bar, whipping her body into two full
twists. Her landing was difficult, because until the very last moment she was pointed toward the floor. But her feet hit the mats firmly, sticking like quick drying cement. She raised her body, arms flung out. Not even a step, her landing had been perfect. She felt exualtant. Happy with her routine, she ran towards her teammates, eager to laugh with them until it was time for the next event.

Routine: Trampoline

Finally, the last routine! Just when Rigby had begun to think the competition was never ending. Now she felt that it had gone way to quickly. Her stomach was twisted in knots again, as the trampoline routine was not something she had a lot of experience with. This was actually the first time she was competing officially in the gymnastic skill. Her first round individual event had gone well, at least she thought so. She was still waiting to hear from the judges.

Climbing onto the huge trampoline as gracefully as possible, Rigby made her way to the center of it. She faced the judges, but they were busy looking down. She took advantage of their distraction to adjust her leotard. Rigby wanted to make sure everything was tucked in properly. The deductions would be huge if body parts went bouncing out. She blushed as she smoothed her suit into place. She never got used to a huge audience staring at her while she got ready for a routine.

The judges looked up, seconds after Rigby finished her minor suit adjustments. They gave her the all clear signal. Squaring her shoulders, Rigby turned to the right, and began jumping just as her music started. This was the part she liked least. The trampoline was already fast becoming her favorite routine, she loved flying through the air. But it was hard to look graceful while you were getting up to speed. Rigby tried anyway. As she jumped she swept her arms upwards, concentrating on them as a part of her. She kept the tension in them, allowing them to look as if they were floating upwards, all the while in total control.

Now that she was finally up to the height required for her first skill, Rigby tucked in, flipping over in a tuck and bouncing up, once, twice. She reversed direction, gathering more momentum. She brought her legs and toes up to her out stretched arms and fingers. Then she flipped again, suddenly forgetting the envioronment around her. She flipped and kicked effortlessly, changing directions with ease. She was getting great height, and she was able to stay away from the rountine ending edges.

The end came sooner than she would have liked. She was having a lot of fun up there, the pressure of the competition was finally over! Rigby slowed her bounce and on that last one stuck herself to surface. When she was sure it was good, she lifted her arms in triumph. She was flying higher in her mind than she had done on the trampoline! She rushed off it, doing a careles forward sumersault tuck off. It was a bit reckless, but even if she broke her neck at this point it wouldn't matter. All five of her routines were over. She had done the best by her team that was in her means to do. She only hoped it was enough.

Rigby danced over to the team benches, and chugged water. Now she could relax, sit back and watch her teammates. "Ra-Ra-Ravenclaws!"she shouted in encouragement. She wanted the team gold so bad she could taste it. It tasted good, a bit like milk chocolate covered almonds. Mmmm.

After seeing everyone before her preform she felt a bit shaken up. They all did so great and she really wasnt the best at balance beam. It includes well balnce and when she was nervouse she teneded to be pretty clumsy. she took in two deep breaths.
"one breath" she counted and continued.
"two breaths" she said as she tried to focus. grace, speed, strngth, and flexability she could do but balance was not something that was handded out. She smiled as the camras looked around at the teams. She didnt want to seem unsure of herself though she was. She wanted to magically be perfact but of corse that would be cheating so she wouldnt even think about doing it.

she stepped onto the mat her hands shaking. She took two more breaths as the croud got quit obviusly watching like they did at every part and for everyone. Then why did this feal so diffrent she felt more presured and more likly to fall as she approched the mat. She stood there for three seconds then ran to the spring wich only took a milla second. She jumped in the air landing on the beam strait legged. she walked to the end of it her toes pionted like in ballet. She did a few flips landing on the balance beem each time. She moved her hands in a dancing form. then came the hardest part of her routine. she had to jump into the air spin and land an inch away from the balance beam her hands holding her up from her falling. this stunt was tricky and she had been working on it for years and was finally going to try it. 1,2,3, she counted in her head. then she preformed it spining three times in the air then landing. her arms were bent as she cought herself before she fell. she returned to her feet and and danced spinning on the beam. She did a back flip off the balance beam and landed with one foot slightly out of place. she smiled as she was pleased that she didnt fall off. she walked over to the bench over by her team and sat down streching her laggs.
"how did I do?" she asked not sure if she actully did good.

This event has now come to an end. Medals and scores will be added to breakdown of scores in a short while. Well done everyone!
