Muggle Studies Discussion: Cars and Carpets

Hello! The first discussion class of the term is right here – if you’re looking for a bit of fun and the chance to explore your views on the differences between the wizarding and muggle worlds, then you have come to the right place!

The discussion is simply this:

“What advantages, if any, do Muggles modes of transport have over wizarding modes of transport?”

The more you discuss, the more points you'll earn - don't forget to think over all points! It is a flexible discussion but please don't go too off-topic! Points may be deducted and we don't want that sad

This is open to anyone and everyone – so go ahead and discuss! Points will be awarded accordingly, with a maximum of 100 for each person.

What advantages, if any, do Muggles modes of transport have over wizarding modes of transport?”
I dont think Muggles have any advantages because Muggles have to make sure their car always has opetrol anmd they can break down easily whereas Wizards modes of transport (brooms) never breaks down, unless they get snapped, which is very unlikely and flying cars are great because they dont need petrol, Mr Weasley could engirne them to run on water, which is cheap. Whereas Muggle petrol is expenive. So yeah Muggles have no advantages over us wizards Muggle Studies Discussion: Cars and Carpets 436937 cat fight

Well, I believe, for one, that muggle transport is easier to get around in than MOST wizard forms. For one, they don't need to worry about being spotted in there cars, whereas we wizards and witches are always living in fear of risking the exposure of our world by flying over muggle villages etc...

For another, you'll find that wizards can easily be blown off brooms in harsh weather, but an aeroplane is almost always safe to travel through storms and strong winds...

While Kolbi talks of flying cars, which are illegal...but useful, I would say that, while spells can be placed so that they can go invisible, they still risk the exposure of the wizarding world, even more so then brooms, and motor-cars are a muggle invention, and it is far out-side the norm to see them flying...

I believe that we, as magical folk, have the upper hand. We have the greatest form of transportation available - Apparition. This form of transport uses no fossil fuels that Muggles love to guzzle, is free of monetary cost (All you need to do is take time to learn!) while all Muggle transportation is costly, and is virtually painless - or, at least, you get used to the feeling after a while.

Another form of Wizarding transportation is Floo Powder, which you do have to buy, but it's another convenient way to travel if you haven't gotten your Apparition License yet. Simply take a pinch of powder, hop into a fireplace, state your destination and you're on your way!

Portkeys are another handy way to travel, especially for groups filled with underage witches and wizards. A simple incantation (Portus) lets any ordinary object become a magical transporter - all you have to do is touch it at the right moment, and you'll be taken wherever the object was told to take you!

And can we forget about our most widely known way of transportation? (At least, in the Muggle world.) Flying carpets have been featured in Muggle novels and films - some careless Middle Eastern wizards on holiday with family let themselves be seen flying a few hundred years ago - and are seen as most mystical. However, these carpets are banned in Britain because any old Muggle carpet can be charmed to fly, which makes them potentially dangerous if fallen into the wrong hands. They are still highly used in the Middle East, preferred over what Lucy and Kolbi have mentioned - the broomstick.

Most Wizarding families have at least one broomstick to be used for travel. By using the Disillusionment Charm, a witch or wizard can fly undetected by Muggles. The Muggles have, most certainly, invented more comfortable modes of transportation - but, c'mon, we can fly on broomsticks. Pretty awesome, right?

I do admit that the Muggles have been creative about their modes of transportation; getting along without magic must be tricky! Their creativity has extended from old Model T Fords to jets to subways to electric cars - I'm eager to see what they come up with next!

The advantages are they also are almost similar to wizard transport as they are actually floating on air. In a way is that the wheels are actually rolling on the road and we are above the wheels. So, we are actually floating on air without even realising it! The broomstick also has the same advantage but to a higher extent. But muggles do not know about the wizarding transport and so they still made this interesting way of travelling. But some disadvantages are they use too much fossil fuel and cost too much. Atleast the wizarding world has a very interesting way of floating without using fuel and don't really have to spend billions of Gallions for a broomstick!

Everything has thier advantages and disadvantages. Cars have good things about them and so does Carpets along with the bad. Here's the few of those

Cars are a great way to get many people from one place to another if you're using a jeep or van. A carpet, unless you get a hug one, couldn't fit too many people and if you try to cram many people on one than there is the chance of someone falling off, with a car there is no chance. The door are closed and locked so unless someone unlocks the door they wouldn't be able to fall out. Also there are seat belts in cars which hold people in place, carpets do not have seat belts though they could always sow some on. Also cars are much safer than cars, if you are in a crash there are air bags to protect you in the cra whereas if your in a crash with a carpet you fall right over the edge and fall down to the ground.

Now I'm makign the car sound so much better but that is not that case. One way the carpet is better is that it does not release harmful substances into our enviroment makign it not only safe for us but also the animals. Also with a carpet you wouldn't have to worry abotu crashes too much because you can fly whereever you want in the sky whereas with the car you are stuck on the road. Also with a carpet if your tired you can just lay down whereas in a car you could not. Also a carpet could be rolled up and tucked away whereas a car would be much harder to put away.

As you can see they both have good and bad traits. Instead of trying to choose which one is better they should instead try to combine the two making a mode of transportation that is safe and harmless along with many other things.

broomsticks are probobly,(I think),the coolest mode of wizard transpotation.they're like motercycles one disadvantage is that brooms can be broken ,whereas motercycles are durable so you dont have to by a new one every time it breaks. sad

Cars and Carpets,hm... 😕muggles win again, cars ,muggles dont hav to wory about being seen whereas carpets ar a pain in the but to keep hiden. lol lol

I think portkeys, floo powder, and apirition, are the best modes of wizard transportation Muggle Studies Discussion: Cars and Carpets Z_ronald
