Murder Mystery: Murder at Hogwarts

Scene: It is Christmas.

The Great Hall: Christmas Evening: Time – 17.30pm

The snow was falling heavily out of the window as twelve of the inhabitants of Hogwarts, which were not many as most had gone home for Christmas, sat down for dinner, awaiting the arrival of the stragglers. A slightly flustered Sybil Trelawney strode into the hall and stopped dead on her feet as she approached the table.

“Sybil, won’t you grace us with your presence. The Turkey is delightful” Dumbledore said cheerily as the waved his wand and drew up a comfortable looking chair.

Sybil shook her head and backed away slightly, looking nervously at the twelve seated students and teachers.

“I do not dare to, headmaster” She replied as she slunk towards the door, “Twelve at the table, one more will make thirteen, a very unlucky number…Thirteen at a table…the first to rise will surely die”

A few people eyes rolled as Dumbledore rose from his seat, refraining from smiling too much.

“I am sure that it will not matter today, Sybil”

Sybil pulled her shabby violet cardigan around her shoulders and slowly nodded before sitting down between Dumbledore and Harry, much to Harry’s annoyance.

The rest of the meal passed quickly, though Harry, Ron and Hermione ended up pulling their chairs as far away as possible from the constant jibes from Trelawny.

At precisely 19.01pm, Sybil rose from the table, aware finally of the rolling eyes and hushed whispers around her.

“Oh dear, professor” Harry said smirking and leaning back in his chair, annoyed at the professor for the jibes about him being the boy who lived, “Didn’t you say the first to rise is the first to die? Welcome to my world!”

Whilst the staff and students alike struggled to hide their grins, which was a first for Severus Snape, Professor Trelawny ran from the room in fear.

Five minutes later, the rest of the table left the great hall, only to be brought back in an hour later by a scream.

Professor Trelawny was found slumped over the stairs outside the main castle entrance at 23.22pm.

Next to her lay a torn piece of black material, a devils snare, unpotted, a small piece of paper, some shattered glass.
