The Most Exciting Day of My Life

It’s the day every Harry Potter fan has been waiting for, the opening of the Harry Potter Theme Park which is just around the corner. You might have been dreaming of this day for years but you’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer.

While you’re waiting why not write a story of how you want your day to go when you visit the theme park for the first time. When would you be going, maybe on opening day or a few weeks later? Who will you be with and what will you be doing?

For this challenge you will be writing a story of how your day will go at the theme park. Be sure to list what attractions you will be visiting and also what you’ll be doing and feeling throughout the entire day. The story can be as long as you want just make sure it’s longer than 500 words.

(I'm certainly planning on being there opening day. Heck I might even camp out!)

I sighed and rocked back on my heels. I had been waiting at the front gate for an hour now, dying to get in the Islands of Adventure Theme Park. Why? I'll tell you why: It was the day that the Wizarding World opened for the first time to public. A project that had been in the making for almost two years. With the dates constantly shifting and changing, I was worried about everything. But now here I stood, dressed up as my favorite Ravenclaw weirdo, Luna Lovegood, not-so-patently waiting for the clock to strike 9:00 AM.
At least I wasn't there alone. My best friend Skie was along for the ride. We do everything together just about. And the both of us are fortunate enough to live right outside of Orlando, making it easy to come to the park any time we wanted. In fact, I had been coming here nearly every week since Halloween Horror Nights to check up on the progress and take pictures of what they had finished so far. I would sit on a bench and stare at the people working for hours, just wishing they could finish faster.
Other people where here too. It made me feel good that Harry Potter had such a loving fan base that they would sit outside the gates and entertain themselves for this joyous moment. To be able to all walk in Hogsmeade, eyes glowing and hearts pounding. To witness the beauty and wonderers of the place as one. That is what I was dreaming for.
Only twelve minutes away.
Skie and I got out our tickets as the workers came to the gate. Everyone stood up and began to giggle and shout excitedly. We crowded around.
One minute.
The gates opened. The large group poured inside, rushing to get there first. I knew exactly where to go. I knew how to get there fast. Skie and I, along with other local fans, darted across the empty park to where the Adventure Isle was located.
And we saw it. Hogwarts, standing tall and mighty, lumbering over us like the majestic gothic castle from the movies and books. We all squealed in delight and rushed forth, becoming some of the very first people to ever step foot in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
------A few hours later------
I laughed and gave Skie a tight hug. We where sitting in the extremely crowded Three Brooksticks, drinking some wonderful pumpkin juice. We had already spent all our money, but I still wanted more. Both of us had more bags than we could hold.
I saw a devilishly handsome man walk by, clearly dressing up as Snape. I snorted and grabbed my camera. “Sir! May I take you picture?” I waved at him and hobbled to his side. He smiled cheerfully.
“Of course Miss Lovegood.” I blushed and squeaked, then snapped the picture. My camera beeped, indicating that it was full.
“Oh crap!” I went back over to our table, a bit sad. “I ran out of pictures Skie!”
She tapped on her own camera. “Well I haven't!”
I ate a packet of Every Flavored Jelly Beans that I had bought at Honeydukes. We shared the pack, happily enjoying our first day at the most amazing park in the world.
“Shall we ride the Dragon challenge again?”
I shook my head. “No. I think we should go start exploring Hogwarts now.”
Skie nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
We gathered our stuff and, hand in hand, skipped off to the entrance of the majestic school of our dreams.

Mel opened the window and leaned out, relishing the feel of the wind in her hair, the sun on her face, and the sights that greeted her on this most lovely of days. The aeroplane was hundreds of kilometres in the air, the ocean stretched out under it forever... and the flight attendant was yelling for her to close the hatch?

“AHHHH!” Mel shouted as she completely woke up. Gravity was pulling at her, and with a great effort of will, she wrenched the door (not a window, she realised now) closed and leant against it with wide eyes and no breath in her lungs.

“Ma’am, get the BEJESUS AWAY from the door!” the flight attendant huffed, her hair gone askew due to the wind.

Smiling sheepishly, Mel made her way to her seat and attempted to hide behind the movie listing. The laughter Caitlin – the friend Mel so haplessly, it would seem, brought on the trip with her – was making it mighty difficult however.

“What, did you think you were riding a Hippogriff? A Thestral?” Caitlin cackled some more. The seatbelt sign flicked off, and she immediately fell to the isle of the plane in a spasm of laughter.

“Oh very funny. You know how I get when I’m excited about something... I sleepwalk.” Mel’s voice was breathy as she dwelled on her reason for travelling in such a delicate mental state. The Harry Potter theme park.

Stars seemed to dazzle her as she thought about all of the wonderful things waiting for her at the end of this flight. Magic, wonderment... Severus. Yes, dreams would come true today. It was the culmination of a lifetime of living and breathing Harry Potter.

“I do have a life, Cameron. And this will prove it!” Mel whispered feverishly. Her brother wasn’t on the plane – he was back in Sydney, like the Muggle he is. But the argument that had broken several windows and mirrors still reverberated in her mind. And wouldn’t he eat his words when she came back, full of her tales of magic!

Caitlin had picked herself up and was back in her seat. She was clutching a notebook, and looked ready to hijack the plane in the hopes they’d get to the US with more haste.

“I’m going to faint.” She was saying now. “And then vomit, and then faint again.”
Mel nodded. “I understand.” And she did.

Mel was just leaning back to take another nap – a dubious pastime, as past events would testify to – when a hand fell on her shoulder.

Screaming, Mel whipped out her wand – willow, 13 ¼ inches, dragon heartstring, rather whippy – and shouted “Stupefy!”

There was silence, and her attacker (a different flight attendant) blinked at her in befuddlement. “I beg your pardon?”

“Silence, Death Eater wench! Stay away from my person or I’ll AK you – I’m not afraid to use Unforgiveables.”

“I... see.” Another series of blinks. “Ma’am, would you please buckle in? The captain has put the seatbelt sign back on, we’ll be arriving soon.”

With a suspicious squint of the eye Mel did as she was asked. “She’s just lucky that her Polyjuice is so convincing. Otherwise she’d be outta here!”

Caitlin nodded sagely. “We’ll disappear into the Forbidden Forest when we land, and no one’ll find us. Nagini will meet us, and we’ll work on a revenge plot together. Good thing I’ve been working on my Parseltongue.” She petted her notebook. It was full of incriminating information, should the Ministry ever get their hands on it, she’d be toast.

“Adventure awaits us, my friend.” Mel sat back with a content sigh. All was well.

Hand's trembling with excitement, each step felt brought stephy ever closer to the one place she wanted to be in the entire world, the Harry Potter Theme Park. She had been dreaming of this day ever since she heard rumors of the theme park being created, of the time it took to build and finally of the announcement of it's opening. She wanted to be there on opening day but her mother made her wait.

'Those lines are going to be super long. Wait a few months and we'll go.' her mother said crushing all hopes of going there on opening her day. Her sister's boyfriend had been bragging about how he was going there on opening day. However a month after it opened him and his family finally went leaving poor stephy behind. During his visit he sent her text messages of pictures of the theme park. Stephy eagerly examined each picture carefully wishing one day to be there herself... but he had to wait. She was a patient person but waiting to go to the theme park was killing her.

Finally stephy was granted the opportunity to run the streets of the magical world and finally find out how it felt to be a wizard. She was excited beyond imagination and her mother had spent the past few weeks listening to her blabber on about Harry Potter this and Harry Potter that. It was driving Stephy's mother up the walls but she knew after their visit that she would be even worse.

When the entrance gate appeared in view Stephy piratically ran into the theme park leaving her family far behind only to run into the Hogwarts Express right at the entrance. Stephy squealed with excitement as she pulled out her camera taking thousands of pictures. She knew that by the end of their visit her camera would be filled with nothing but pictures of the theme park. She was well known in her family for taking so many pictures and at many times had the camera taken away from her. However this was a special day deserving more picture taking than usual, she just hoped she had enough memory on her 8 GB memory card to hold it all.

Her brother seemed to be the only one to share her excitement. He was the only one who seemed to share the same interests as her. Matt was a clone of her though less of a nerd if that was possible. Her sister Kim didn't want to be there at all but agreed to come since her boyfriend came along. When everyone else caught up to Stephy she could see that only Matt and her sister's boyfriend Mark shared the same excitement as her. Mark and Matt were eager to hear about everything HP explained in great detailed. It was a good thing that Stephy spent that whole month reading every Harry Potter book again and reading many HP WIKI articles before she arrived.

The shops were the first places they stopped at, Stephy tooked, in her mother's opinion, too long examining the contents on the selves. Her mother did find a few interesting items and her father went around asking what this was or what this did. Eagerly Stephy would explain everything she knew about each item and if she didn't know much about it she would make something up. The rest of the family didn't know really anything about Harry Potter so how would they know that she was lying. Before the end of the day Stephy would keep stopping by Olivander's hoping he would pick her to get a wand. She would refuse to leave the park without Olivander picking her out a wand. That was one thing on her list of things to do at the Harry Potter Theme park that she needed to do.

Half way through the day the others would start to get bored, her sister would be demanding for a ride and so they would stop by the Dragon Challanege and Hippo ride. Afterwards, like any other time they went on big rides, her sister would become deathly sick and she and her mother would have to return to the hotel while they left the rest at the park. Mark would be yelled at for awhile by stephy's sister for staying at the theme park instead of tending to his sick girlfriend. However Stephy wouldn't pay much attention. There would be too much excitement going on around for her to be worried about her sick sister.

Before they left Stephy and the remaining group would head over to the castle after visiting Hagrid and his hunt. The camera would be flashing like crazy as she tried to take pictures of everything. Going through the castle Stephy would explain in great detail everything she knew to have happened in the movies and the books until her father was on the edge and decided it would be a great time to head back to the hotel or even to get some dinner. Stephy would already have told them to head over to the Three Broomsticks for some yummy food while she finally gets to try the butterbeer. Once all were filled Stephy's father might go for a few more rides but sooner or later they would return to the hotel only for Stephy to beg him to stay longer however she knows who would win in the end.
