Tarot has been around for a long time, and was once a simple game played by Italians, as it was first created in northerin Italy.Now these days, tarot cards are used in divination practices throughout the world. The decks of tarot cards are made up of 78 cards, containing two sets of different cards. The first set is called the Major Arcana, or the Trump cards. The word trump comes from the word triumph. These cards of the Major Arcana, are said to be the ones that hold the strongest symbols, and are the most important cards of the tarot deck.
Each trump card represents something, thought not necessarily what is shown on the card.
The cards follow a very standard order with the Fool being the first. The Fool card is one that contradicts its self at times and is complex. The Fool does not have an actual number because it is said that the Fool card, represents someone saying "I am free of being a number". This card represents both childlike innocence but at the same time wisdom.
The Fool is said to be a risk taker and enjoys trying all things whether they are dangerous or not. He is said to be carefree and not worry about anything. It's a card that can be both good and bad.
The Magician is the number 1 card, as the Fool is labeled as a zero or having no number.
The Magician's card is a powerful card. It actually represents Intellectual Power. Having power over your surroundings, other people, and your life. It represents taking charge, pushing forward and not letting anything stand in his way.
The Highpriestess is a card that represents ones instincts. She represents bringing together opposites yet she knows all about who you are. And you can't hide secrets from her.
The Empress card represents the motherly maternal figure. She's warm, loving, caring, nurturing, and a protector. She is there for you when you are in trouble but she is not a weak person. She is very compassionate and that is what gives her strength. She represents security, protection and unconditional love.
The Emperor card is all about Power. Having pure power and using it. He is forceful and very ambitious. Nothing stands in his way.This card usually indicates success.
The Heirophant represents the church, religion and political view. He is a card representing safety in numbers, and of social pressure.
The Lovers represents just what it says, lovers couples and relationships and strong bonds. It is a card of love and harmony among the couples.
The Chariot is a card that is forceful and will not give up until it gets where its going. It represent self control and self motivation.
The Strength card represents strengths in all forms not just physical. It encourages us to be true to ourselves as true strength lies within our hearts.It is the belief in one's cause and the ability and willingness to fight for it.
The Hermit card is a loner card. It means one is wishing to be away from all others. It wants to stand alone. He does a lot of thinking and contemplating about his life and where he wants to go in it.
The Wheel of Fortune represents the cycle and nature of reality. It is there to make us aware of what is going on around us.
The Justice card represents settlement and settling from partial authority. It is about acchieving a justified outcome.
The Hanged Man represents doing what he believes in and if death is his fate, then he dies happy with it. He is not a true victim as he took a big chance and either failed or didnt complete. This card has many definitons though similiar in many ways.
The Death Card stands for and represents change, rebirth, something new, a new life, a new direction.
The Temperance Card represents a card of balance. It is a true harmony card in that it wants all things in balance, in harmony coexisiting peacefully. It is the card of the modirator as in nothing is forbidden, nothing is all wrong or all right. Everything is in balance and harmony with eachother.
The Devil represents falling into temptations of danger. Enslaving ones self and becoming weak. Not trying, just simply giving up and being enslaved by their own faults and fears. They become 'victims' of their own choosing.
The Tower Card is the worst card of the deck. It represents chaos, deastruction, and loss. It is an unavoidable card, and it brings severe changes. All one can do is brace themselves, and strive to survive the worst. It can represent death a lot more than than the Death card itself.
The Star represents peace, harmony, and tranquility. Most likely following after getting a Tower Card.
The Moon represents the inner depths of the psyche, of intuition and illusions. It appeals to those who are not of sound mind. They venture blindly thinking they know it all and then end up with great consequences for their actions.
The Sun represents a glorious day filled with optimistic ventures and exploration. It brings well being and happiness from all points of life. It's a very uplifting card.
The Judgement card represents criticizm and praise. Not being either bad or good, it is a card of decisions, changes, endings and beginnings. It is a card to represent honesty, making sure where we are going is honestly where we want to go.
The World Card represents completion. It is a very positive card that represents being whole, being completed finally, close to perfection. Everything is wonderful, there are no worries.
The Major Arcana certainly lives up to its name and it is the set that most diviners focus upon to assist with their readings and predictions.
