| Major Events in Wizarding History
In this essay, I shall look at some of the major events in wizarding history, those that I believe hold great importance.
One of the most important events was the founding of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, circa 990. Founded by four of the greatest witches and wizards of the time, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin, in a unified attempt to end the growing mistrust on the part of Muggles, they created history. It is a major event because it has contributed so much to the lives of young witches and wizards, giving them an education.
Quidditch is another important event that needs to be mentioned. In the 1000’s, Quidditch first came about. It originated in Queerditch Marsh, where a group of local witches and wizards began playing a game on broomsticks. This later developed into Quidditch. Quidditch deserves to be mentioned as a major event because it plays such a large role in the lives of so many people.
In 1294, the very first Tri-Wizard Tournament was held. An important event, as it promoted inter-school unity and understanding between them.
1945 not only saw the end of the Muggle Second World War, but also the defeat of the evil wizard Grindelwald by Albus Dumbledore. This event was seen to be of enough importance to be placed onto a Famous Witches and Wizards Card, where it is stated that this is one of the things he is most famous for.
Perhaps the most important event in modern wizarding history is the first defeat of Voldemort in 1981. In Godric’s Hollow on Halloween, one-year-old Harry Potter was the first person to survive being hit by Avada Kedavra, the curse rebounding on Voldemort, reducing him to near-death. This event is important because it gave the wizarding world thirteen years respite from Voldemort’s evil ways.
The final important date I shall look at is summer 1994, which saw the return of Voldemort. He was reborn with the aid of his lackey Peter Pettigrew, during the third task of a triwizard tournament. This is an important yet terrible event, as it brings us almost to the present state of affairs in the wizarding world.
