| Gerard Butler and Craig Ferguson were amazing in this. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it had to do with their accents. I also like how their characters were quite predictable for who they are.
Craig, who played Gobber, was a big comic relief throughout the film... which is exactly what I expected of the late night talk show host. He threw in a ton of one liners... granted some of them weren't really needed, but the point is he made me laugh.
Gerard, who was Hiccup's father Stoick(sp?), was intense and manly... Remind you of anyone? Oh yeah, Gerard! I liked this role for him as a character, but the character itself... not so much. I think the disappointed, then proud, then disappointed and proud again father thing was just a bit too circular for my taste.
Another set of characters that I really enjoyed were Tuffnut (voiced by T.J. Miller) and Ruffnut (voiced by Kristen Wiig). Their sibling bickering made me giggle a bit, because it really reminded me of my brother and I.

| I also thought that Tuffnut and Ruffnut were excellently cast. Especially Ruffnut because Kristin Wiig is hilarious.
And casting Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fishlegs was inspired. It's funny to hear his voice come out of someone that large, but his voice made a character who looks like someone you should be afraid of turn into this teddy bear childlike viking. Plus that kid cracks me up.
Jay Baruchel is one of those actors who always seems to play the same character, but he is so good at it that I don't mind one bit. He made Hiccup so adorable.
I also agree that Gerard was an excellent choice for a giant scary looking viking because his accent and deep voice fits a character so imposing. However, I also agree about his character being a tad bit annoying. To wishy washy. But good job Gerard.
And I love Craig Fergusen, he always makes me laugh no matter what he is doing and his voice was perfect for Gobber. He made Gobber one of the characters that seems the most alive and real.

| I loved the entire cast of this movie. They really picked the perfect people for the job. I agree that Tuffnut and Ruffnut where hilarious and T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig really made the characters.
I loved Jay Baruchel as Hiccup, and the sarcastic nature he put into him. I thought he was the perfect person to put into the movie. And I was watching some special features and some of the lines I loved best he came up with on the spot and they decided to use them since they fit in so well.
And once again, I agree that Gerald Butler was the best possible choice for Stoick. He definitley fit the character for the big, strong intimidating Viking leader. However, I didn't mind too much that his character went back and forth. I mean, I wish he'd have liked Hiccup from the beginning but it's just like any other movie with the disappointed father who comes to value his son in the way that he switched back and forth.
Finally, I love America Ferrera as Astrid. She portrayed the energetic, tough and competitive character perfectly in my opinion and I think she did an excellent job of staying true to her character throughout the movie.
