The Salem Witch Trials (1692-1693) is an example of how easy mass hysteria can completely take over community and cripple the inhabitants with fear and corruption. While people favored the trials at first, public opinions began to turn against the trails, with some even believing the accused were, in fact, not guilty (which ended up being true).

When two girls (the daughter and niece of a Salem minister) began acting out-of-control and showing unusual behaviors, the minister and his family began to worry. They were confused about what was happening and called in a doctor to help. The doctor diagnosed the girls with bewitchment. As soon as the news spread, more girls began to show the same symptoms. The girls began to accuse any and every one they could think of. While this would seem to be the most dramatic part, their actions were only the beginning.

Three women were accused of being the witches that bewitched the girls; however, only one confessed, hoping it would reduce her sentence. Tituba, the woman who confessed, claimed the devil was working with the other witches in Salem. It is believed she was accused because of her background with witchcraft. Some people also believe that the girls were scared of being caught practicing what Tituba had taught them. Her confession fueled the fire and other people began to accuse their friends, neighbors, and even family members as being witches. Most of the women that were accused were also beggars, women who could only defend themselves and acted differently than traditional Puritans. After some time, the respected women of the community were also accused because they began to grow skeptical. The justice system was so overwhelmed by all the accusations that they could barely keep up. Some of the “witches” even died in jail before their trial could even come.

Those who were accused never got proper burials. They were also excommunicated from their churches. After the sun went down, the dead bodies of those hanged were cut down and thrown into shallow graves. Some of the families would steal the bodies so they could give them a burial in unmarked graves. Their bodies were considered filthy by the living, which is why they were not given proper burials.

However, there were some doubts. The Mather family warned the community against the hangings. They believed that accused should have fair trials and that innocent suspects should not have to die. They also believed that each trials should be the same and consistent. While at first the community rejected their warnings, after a while, many favored their opinion. After several innocent people died, the judge in Salem decided to release and pardon the remaining suspects in jail.

After the trials happened, the counts declared a day of fasting and released an apology. They also declared the whole witch trials unlawful, but it was too late; they damage was done. The residents no longer believed in the justice system and felt betrayed. It is suspected that several girls ate bread that had a fungus called ergot. Ergot can cause delusions, vomiting, and muscle spasms. Not every single person ate the bread though. This just goes to show people how hysteria can spread like wild fire.

Gnat Soup

Is your little monster sick? No worries! This soup will replenish their fluids while giving them a tasty treat!

You will need:
20 pieces of gnats
Pureed peas (strained)
One cup of dragon stock (can use chicken!)
3 cups of gillywater
One #4 cauldron
A delegger (who wants gnat legs in their soup?!?!)
One wooden spoon

First, deleg your gnats. This should take four minutes. After doing that set them aside and grab your pea puree. If it hasn't been strained, do so now! Pour your water and pea puree into the cauldron and bring to a boil. Then, place your gnats into the cauldron and dragon stock, bring to a boil and simmer. After simmering for five minutes, turn off the fire and remove your cauldron from the heat. Let cool for five minutes and serve!

Prep time: ten minutes
Cook time: Twenty minutes





Brain Stew

Nothing says yummy yummy in my tummy than brain stew. Let’s get started.

You will need:

One pound of brain tips
3 cups of tomatoes
One cup of tomato puree
One cup of potatoes, rinsed and cut
Four pounds of corn nibbles
5 carrots, cut into circles
1 can of beans, rinsed

First, brown your brain tips in a pan. After doing so, throw your brain tips, with the juices, into a cauldron and pour in your tomato puree. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to low. Place all the other ingredients and four cups of water (optional!). Let this cook for 5 hours, on low, and then serve. The brain should be tender and fall apart.
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 5 hours






Eyeball Pizza

We all love pizza, so why not treat your monster friends and witches with some yummy pizza?

You will need

Pizza dough
Dragon Blood (or tomato sauce!)
Lizard eyeballs
Peppers (red and green)
Mushrooms
Cheese, yellow and white

Put the dough in the oven for 10 minutes to get firm. No one wants soggy pizza dough! When that finishes, pull the dough out and put the dragon blood, eyeballs, peppers, mushrooms, and cheese on top and put back in the over for ten minutes or until the cheese is bubbly.

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes

I got 27, which made me swap places. I swapped with Rai, who was at 1. Write Halloween Drabbles.

Part One:
Once upon a time, there was a little witch who wanted to play a game. She begged her sisters to play but they wanted to make potions instead. So the little witch grabbed her broom and took off

“No one ever plays with me,” she cried, weaving in and out of trees the best she could until….

“Omph…” the little witch said as she fell off her broom. After wiping the dirt from her face, she realized she was in the dark forest. There were spiders and bugs everywhere and she started giggling.

“Yay! Things to play with!” she shouted.


Part Two:
The monsters glanced around, confused about what was going on. They had never seen a human before and didn’t know what they would do. The first monster, who had a ring through his nose tipped toed out of the woods.

“What are you?” he asked, his head turned to the side. The witch smiled, her pink hat tilted to the side.

“I’m a witch! I came to play!” she shouted in glee. The nose ring monster looked at the others, fear in his eyes. What if she hurt them? What was she? Nothing that tiny could cause harm, right?


Part Three:
“I want to play! PLAY!” the little witch shouted with a big smile on her face. She could have friends now and her sisters would be history. She could turn them into newts and they would have to listen to her. But that was that the point- today she had big monsters and spiders to play with.

“My name is Remy and I like to play. Do you want to make potions? Oh, do you want to paint the woods? They are dark and I like pink,” she told them. After glancing at one another, they shrugged. What could go wrong?


Part Four:
“Weeeeeee!” Remy shouted. The monster that had wings decided to take her for a ride on his back. The had her wand out, painting all the trees all the colors of the rainbow: green, blue, pink, yellow, and any other color should could think of. While he sisters were having fun making potions for Halloween, she was hanging out with flying monsters and monsters with rings in their noses.

“Are you having fun, little one?” the monster asked, whose name was Ted. Remy giggled and nodded her head. This was the best fun she had in forever.


Part Five:
“REEEEEEMMMMMMY!” she heard in the background. Ted stopped midflight, turning around. “I believe that is your father calling, young one.”

Remy nodded, her eyes sad. Her parents were looking for her and they were using a volume spell. She knew it was time for the Halloween party, but she didn’t want to go. There were no kids and she wanted to have fun, not sit in the corner with a little doll again.

“Can you guys come with me?” she asked Ted, wrapping her arms around his neck. Ted nodded, a smile gracing his face. “Let’s see what we can do.”


Part Six:
“AHHHHH!” the adults screamed as Ted and the other monsters landed in the middle of the dance floor. The other witches had never see monsters either and their fear was showing. The monsters just stood still as Remy slipped off Ted, a smile on her face.

“Look mommy and daddy! Monsters! They can fly and take me places!” she shouted. After getting over their fear, the parents stared as Ted picked up Remy and flew her around the room. Her giggles filled the room and everyone started smiling. Maybe this monsters were not that bad after all.

Part Seven:
“I am Ted, the flying dragon. I live in the woods outside your house. We keep hidden, out of fear,” Ted told them. It had been hours after the party, but the parents wanted to talk to the monsters. How come they had never seen them? Remy was curled in a ball by Ted, her pink hat still handing off her head.

“I can’t believe it…” the parents said. Remy started sucking her thumb, moving closer towards the fireplace.

“We only come out on Halloween…soon we will have to go.” Ted told them, a sad smile on his face as he looked at Remy.

Part Eight:
“Bye Ted…” Remy said softly. Her parents woke her up so she could say goodbye. Her new friends were leaving and it wasn’t fair. Now she wouldn’t have friends anymore.

“It’s okay little one, I will be back next year,” Ted told her. Remy poked her bottle lip out. This wasn’t fair for her. She pointed her wand at Ted and he flinched. Remy whispered a spell and a little stuffed doll appeared. Ted glanced at it and realized it was replica of Remy.

“Here, so you can remember me,” she told him, stuffing it into the pouch on his tummy.

Part Nine:
“Bye guys!” Remy said, while smiling. They were going to come back next year and she was happy. Next Halloween, she would spend all day with her new friends. This Halloween was the best Halloween she ever had.

“Bye Remy!” they all said together. Ted, who was the leader, flew towards the sky while others followed behind him or melted into the ground.

“And you, little witch, need to go to bed, darling,” her mother said as she picked her up. Remy giggled, snuggling her head into her mother’s neck.

“Okay mommy. Happy Halloween…” she mumbled as she drifted to sleep.

6. Write a one shot

“Come on, Rai, let me have some candy!” Violet shouted as she pounded on the headmaster’s door. He had been very grumpy this year and decided to cancel Halloween. Of course they were all distraught. The most magical time of a witches life and they were not allowed to celebrate?! BLASPHEMY!

“We will break this door down!” Amber shouted from beside her. Amber, who was now the deputy headmistress, could not figure out what was going on. Usually, Rai was in a great mood around Halloween, but atlas, he was not wanting to share the candy or let the celebrations go on. What had happen? Violet continued to bang on the door before letting her anger get to her.

“Fine, I will blow it up!” she shouted, pulling out her wand. If he wasn’t coming out, all of them were going in. Stephy was beside her, a smirk plastered on her face. If there was anyone who could blow a door open, it was definitely Violet. Her smirk disappeared when she heard a loud bang and saw Violet fly across the hall. Maybe Violet wasn’t as great as she though.

“That was totally uncalled for,” Violet mumbled as she brushed the dirt off her dress robes. “Fine, we will go somewhere else.” Violet and the others moved away from the door, their heads bent in sadness. This was the first Halloween without candy and they were all upset. Why was Rai keeping all the candy to himself?

“What if we make something for him?” Marie suggested. Of course the Hufflepuff would think of this; the rest of them were selfish and only thought of themselves.

“Great idea, Marie, what should we do?” Kimber asked. Violet was still sulking while Stephy was helping her get the rest of the dirt off. “How about him a party….?” said avablacky, being the shy quiet Hufflepuff. Everyone nodded. This was it; Rai would have a party.


“GO AWAY!” Rai shouted. His room was full of thunder bolts and clouds with rain going everywhere. It was that time of the year again- he would put in great efforts for everything and no one showed. This year, he wouldn’t. They could all sit there and sulk for all he cared. Yet the owl at his window refused to leave, pecking even harder if possible. Finally, Rai grabbed the owl by the neck and took the letter off its beak. “Go.Away.” he growled, throwing the bird out the window, not before getting a nip. Only after he let the bird go did he realize it was an howler.

“Oh no….” he mumbled as the letter exploded.

“YOU, GRAND HEADMEASTER, HAVE BEEN INVITED TO A PARTY! COME HERE, HAVE BUTTERBEAR, AND HAVE CHEER! THERE WILL BE CANDY AND DANCE, MAYBE EVEN SOME GAMES!” Violet’s loud mouth shouted. Rai rubbed his head. Why did she have such a loud voice?

“Fine, will you go away?” he mumbled to the howler that was catching flames. He had no choice, he knew violet would be sending another one if he didn’t go down stairs. He grabbed his bowl of candy, making sure to place a protective spell around it. “But they aren’t getting candy,” he muttered as the door slammed behind him.


“There is he!” Amber shouted as Rai slipped into the great hall. Violet was lying on a table, using her wand to making green and silver swirls everywhere. You couldn’t throw Rai a party without his Slytherin colors everywhere. Pumpkins littered the floor and silver candles with green flames floated in the air. Rai’s eyes started watering. All this for him? All of the HE-ers (and even the purple hippo) that he had come to know and love were there with gifts and cookies and candy, only for him to consume.

“Now….do I get candy….?” Violet asked, eyeing his bowl. Rai rolled his eyes, handing her the bowl. Violet went to dive in, only to get thrown across the room again. “RAI!” she shouted as she got up. Rai smirked. Maybe Violet would learn to keep out of his candy for now on.
