The Cave : Who was with RAB? Kreacher?

The RAB letter inside the locket from the cave clearly seems to show that it was Regulus Black. Now this is not completely factual as it is still a theory, though this is not the subject of this post.

What I want to discuss is who was with RAB when he took the real locket, because, as we have seen with Dumbledore and Harry in the cave, he could not have done it alone.

So who was with RAB?

Snape
Before defection from the Death Eaters, would Snape have participated in such an obvious betrayal? Canon states that Snape defected after the deaths of James and Lily Potter. It may have been that he was wavering after having overheard part of the prophecy, but we know that Snape delivered that information to Lord Voldemort. It is the reason that James and Lily were killed. So it seems without an argument Snape was still loyal to Lord Voldemort at that point. This leaves him as a highly unlikely accomplice. It also eliminates other Death Eaters as possible accomplices. Regulus could trust no one with this mission who might have turned on him and alerted Voldemort.

Lily
The timing of Regulus’ death also eliminates our other star Potions student, Lily. If she was involved, would she have not told Dumbledore about the Horcrux and the fake? She would have had time to do so, because she was not killed until a year after the Horcrux was stolen. No doubt that a member of the Order of the Phoenix and the mother of the possible “Chosen One” would have given Dumbledore any tiny bit of information that would have helped bring about Lord Voldemort’s downfall. If Dumbledore had known that the Horcrux was a fake he certainly would not have take Harry on a dangerous mission to retrieve it. This same reasoning eliminates any other Order member as a possible accomplice, as well as "Snape as Order Spy."

Slughorn
Horace Slughorn is another possibility, but he does not seem the type to stick his neck out for such a dangerous mission. It would require swimming in the cold sea and leaving his study as well as doing without sweets and drinks for some time. Slughorn is adamant that it is best to stay under the radar at times like these. So it is highly unlikely that he would have assisted Regulus in the brewing of the potion. And it is even more unlikely that he would have helped in the drinking of it.

So we need to find an accomplice for Regulus who had no connection to Dumbledore and would not have let slip to either side what Regulus had done.

And this is where I think the key is kreacher

Kreacher has no problem, it seems, trying to follow the orders of long-dead family members. His hoarding of family heirlooms may not only be nostalgic, but duty-bound to the orders of a long-dead favorite son. Kreacher’s great reluctance to pass into the possession of Harry Potter and leave 12 Grimmauld Place may have another dimension. One of the glinting objects in his “nest” may very well be Slytherin’s locket and a piece of Voldemort’s soul.

The key to the Slytherin locket Horcrux may very well be in the possession of the person who needs it most. It may very well be that Sirius’ least favorite possession is Harry Potter’s most fortunate inheritance. The key to what may be Harry’s first task, might very well be working in the Hogwarts’ kitchens. The key may be Kreacher.

Thats a good point. Kreacher was apparently very loyal to Regulus. This also connects with the fact that he was stealing aka "protecting" family heirlooms. He could know that the horcruz was their and is either protecting it under Regulus's orders or just trying to keep it away from the order on his mother's orders.

Do you think that Kreacher has other horcruxes?

Wow! I never thought of that! Kreacher! I think that is a big possibility. And we already know he has the locket...well at least we think he does

I too think it was Kreature that wis with RAB. He could not have done it alone. Assuming that RAB is Regulas Kreature would be the perfect one to bring along. He would have to listen to everything and do everything he was told to do. Kreature plays a big part in the books, but not really that big. JKR had to put him in the storyline for a reason. He may be one of the keys to finding out about RAB.

If Kreacher does have the locket.. then Harry can just order him to give it to him right? Since he is Kreacher's Master

Didn't Harry and people come across a heavy bolted locket could that be the locket and then kreacher was in there trying to smuggle things out do you think he could be looking after the locket. If it was regulas then he would have taken it to grimauld place.
