| I would like to say hello to all my new students. I am very happy to be awarded the Herbology Professor position. I will do my best to try and make this class fun for all who take it. If anyone has any ideas for future lessons in the class, just let me know. I will award house points for any topics I decide to use. And now, here is your first bit of homework.
DEVIL'S SNARE PART TWO
PART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTION (15) I would like a complete description of what Devil's Snare looks like. Please be as descriptive as you can.
PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? (15) In your best words, please describe to me what happens when you become in contact with Devil's Snare. What does the plant do to try and trap it's victims? I would like at least 50 words.
PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? (10) If you ever become entangled with Devil's Snare, what can you do to escape it's wrath? A simple paragraph will be sufficient.
PART FOUR-SENARIO (60) Please give me a story about what happened the day you became entangled in Devil's Snare. I want to know what you were doing when you were attacked. What did the plant do to you? What did you do to the plant to escape?
The more descriptive you are, the more points you will earn for your house. Have fun and be creative.

| Devils Snare: Part 2 By: KatieBellaTrix Part OneA Devil's Snare (DS) has soft, tendrils and vines. I'm guessing that a DS is green and leafy, possibly covered in moss because in OotP it was mistaken for a common potted plant. It must be pretty thick vines and branches to be able to support and contract humans and other large animals. Part TwoThe DS is a particulary violent plant. When first landed on or stepped on or fell on it is soft and squishy so most people ar ein no rush to jump up. However, almost immeditaly it startswrapping its vines and tendrils over the victum, starting with bodypart that touched it. After a short while, it can totally suffocate the victum, with ou tthe victem knowing until it's about to die. This make the DS particulary dangerous. Part ThreeThe way to kill or escape from a DS would be to light a fire. This is becasue the DS strives in dark and damp condtions. And logically, what's the opposite of dark and damp? Fire! Part FourOne day, I was walking to my grandma's house on the other side of the villiage. A great way to go is through the forest so I wouldn't attract any muggles with my talking cat LilyBella. So me and LilyBella were takin gour favorite path when we noticed a cute little drawbridge over perfectly stable land. It was cute so I decided hey, why not, and started to skip joyfully across the little bridge. No sooner than both my feet were on it then I fell feet first into the ground and thankfully landed on this squishy soft substance. Boy was I cold. I tried to get up grab my broomstick and fly out of this mess when I realized my feet were stuck. I looked down and saw these massive vines slowly but tightly wrapping themselves around my legs. I was really very busy trying to squish them when I heard LilyBella call my name. "Katie!!"" she cried. I looked over at my feline companion and realized she was being suffocated. it took less time for a cat to be choked than a human for obvius size diffrences. Remebering back to my herbology notes I had taken in my previous year at Hogwarts I remembered a particulary long essay, Professor Sprout assigned having to do with the Devil's Snare which is what seemed to be killing her cat. SO she reached with difficulty for her back pocket and whipped out her want. With a few well chosen words the Devil's Snare recoiled away from both her and her cat and she was able to reach her broomstick and solid ground. With a great push-off she flew up to the sky and made it all the way to her grandmas house careful not to walk on anymore bridges. http://www.hp-lexicon.org/magic/herbology.html ~ | |

| DEVIL'S SNARE PART TWOPART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTION (5)The Devil's Snare is a mass of springy tendrils. PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? (15)The plant uses its tendrils to wrap around anyone who touches it; binding their arms, legs stomach, chest and neck. Then it tightens its grip on them, squeezing them and eventually strangling them to death. The more a person struggles against Devil's Snare, the faster it coils around them; if they relax, it will not kill them as quickly. PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? (5)If I ever become entangled with Devil's Snare I'd simply light a fire underneath it and watch it burn. But, I find that too cruel, I think a nice bright light would, such as "Lumos!" or bluebell flames. Either way it doesn't like the light. PART FOUR-SENARIO (20)Now that I look back on that day, I find it rather amusing. I had told Professor Sprout that I was in need of some tutoring. I had been out for a couple of days because of a quiddittch injury and I need to catch up a bit. She told me to meet her right after the bell. I think she forgot though, becuase she rushed out with the class. I thought it might have been an emergency of some sort, so I just waited in the garden houses. I was having a look around and came to a smaller, damper place of the green house. There was pot and I had grown curious. Stupid Me. The minute I touched the tiny tendrils of the plant, it snaked around my arm. I honestly thought it was being friendly, so I got closer and it's other tendrils' came about my waist and before I knew it, I felt like my life was getting squeezed out of me. My breath was shortening and I had no clue what was going on. I nearly felt like blacking out soo. I wriggled and squirmed, trying to get awy, but it was no use. It had tightened around my neck and to the point where I could no longer move. I let out a strangled cry and passed out. The last thing I heard was "lumus!" and seeing a brilliant whitle light. The next time I awaoke, I was back in the Hospital Wing. Professor Sprout had saved me from death and I was thankful. That was a horrifying day, I shall never forget. | DEVIL'S SNARE PART TWO PART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTION (5) It is composed of soft, springy tendrils. It can be senseitive to touch and will try to strangle others as they move and try to break free. It likes to stay in dark cold places. PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? (15) As the victem touvhes the devils snare it takes its tendrils and pulls the vitum in. Then it slowly wraps itself around them trying to kill them. First it wraps around thier legs and arms. Then it wraps all sround them trying to suffocate you. As you try to escape and fight it it will only kill you faster. If you stay calm and not move or panick it will kill you at a much slower rate. PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? (5) Since Devil snare hates light you need to make light. You could use a charm or get out a two sticks and rub them together. lol. Use could use the charm Blueball flames which will cause it to shrink away. PART FOUR-SENARIO (20) One day i was coming home from school for Christmas break when i fell into this under ground cave. As i was walking through trying to find a way out i noticed that i was walking on something quishy. As i look down i saw to my horror that it was Devil Snare. I tried to run away but it quickly grabbed me and started to strangle me. I started to panik and tried to fight it but it was no use i thought for sure i was dead. Then all of a suddeni thought of Herbology claas and remembered that the teacher was talking abput this plant. Did she say how to escape i thought to myself then i remeber..... flames. I shouted lumos and the plant started to shrink and i started to run but i triped and fell, my wand falling out of my hand. The plant was coming back so i quickly grabbed my wand as the plant continued to chock me and a shouted out the charm for blueball flames. As the plant let go i got up and made to the part of the cave that i fell through. Agter a careful observation i saw that there was a ladder and crawled up in. I made it out thinking 'who new i would actually use something i learned in school' sorces http://www.hp-lexicon.org/magic/herbology.html | |

| DEVIL'S SNARE PART TWO
PART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTION (5)
Devil's Snare is composed of a mass of soft, springy tendrils and vines that possess some sense of touch. Devil's Snare prefers a dark, damp environment
PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? (15)
Devil's Snare kills its victims by constriction. . It uses its creepers and tendrils to wrap around anyone who touches it, binding their arms, legs stomach, chest and neck. Then it tightens its grip on them, squeezing them and eventually strangling them. The harder a person struggles against Devil's Snare, the faster and tighter it coils around them; if they relax, it will not kill them as quickly.
PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? (5)
If you ever become entangled by a Devil’s Snare you must try to relax so it won’t squeeze you so tight if you try to fight it will only be worst. Or if you are still able to use your wand you can perform a spell to conjure some type of strong light or even a fire.
PART FOUR-SENARIO (20)
One day I was walking in the Forbidden Forest don’t ask me what I was doing there. Anyway suddenly I felt a tight grip around my two legs. Then I was knocked on the floor and started to be dragged. I looked at my legs and saw two strong green tendrils around my ankles. Then it stopped. I was now in some dark humid space. I couldn’t see anything but felt something pulsating like there was something alive in there. I was thinking in a way to get out of that place when multiple tendrils started to wrapped my body. My first instinct was to fight and the more I moved the more tightly the grip closed around me. I felt like my chest bones would collapse I was already starting to have troubles breathing. Then it strokes me. A Devil’s Snare! Immediately I relaxed and though the grip loosed a little bit it didn’t release me. As I’m not a fool to walk around the forbidden forest only with my wand I searched my robes with difficulty for some gunpowder. I finally reached it and managed to through a little far from myself then I started to kick stones to there. A tiny sparkle was all I needed and that was all it took to make the gunpowder to blow provoking and explosion of heat and light two things the Devil’s Snare hates. Feeling the grip around me had disappeared I ran away as fast I could. Outside the forest I summoned my wand and left leaving my business there to other day.

| PART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTION (5) I would like a complete description of what Devil's Snare looks like. Please be as descriptive as you can. Devils snare is a vine type plant, soft and stringy. it uses it's tendrils to capture it's prey.
PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? (15) In your best words, please describe to me what happens when you become in contact with Devil's Snare. What does the plant do to try and trap it's victims? I would like at least 50 words.
when a victim touches it, it imeadiatly starts to wrap itself around them. It attempts to throttle them with it's tendrils. Not very pleasent. It will start slowly and send out more and more vines the more the victim struggles until the victim is strangled. PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? (5) If you ever become entangled with Devil's Snare, what can you do to escape it's wrath? A simple paragraph will be sufficient. To escape devils snare the most important thing is to keep your wits about you. As devils snare prefers dark damp places to live, producing a fire will sufficiently make the plant release you.
PART FOUR-SENARIO (20) Please give me a story about what happened the day you became entangled in Devil's Snare. I want to know what you were doing when you were attacked. What did the plant do to you? What did you do to the plant to escape?
So i was in my garden right? and i mean sure i'm an auror and all, but honestly, i didn't htink i had any enemies. Well i was off work that day and i never was very good in herbology at hogwarts, so i guess that's why i didn't realize what it was. But someone must have slipped it into my garden because when i was trimming my roses i noticed this straglly little plant that looked like it was wrapping itself around my roses, so i reached out to rip it away from them...thats when it started wrapping up my arm. it then reached my neck and the next thing i knew it was wrapping around my neck. Fortunatly i had my wand with me so it wasn't able to stpread past my neck. I conjured a bluebell flame right on the little tendrils that were wrapping around me. I got a little burn from it actually...here *lifts sleave* but it's getting better. I then owled the ministry's department of agriculteral control and they took the plant away to analyze it to see if they can find out who sent it to me.
The more descriptive you are, the more points you will earn for your house. Have fun and be creative.

| PART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTIONS It is composed of a mass of springy tendrils and vines that have a sense of touch.
PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? It uses its tendrils to entangle anyone who comes into contact with it, binding their arms and legs and eventually choking them. Struggling with it will cause it to bind faster and tighter to the victim, but relaxing will result is the opposite effect of slowing and loosing its grip.
PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? Relaxing will help you escape. Also fire or a ‘bluebell flames’ spell can cause the plant to shrink way, allowing you to escape.
PART FOUR-SENARIO I was wondering in the dark and damp Forbidden Forest when I came in found a strange gathering of vines. I went to try and get a closer look, and ended p tripping and falling into the collection of vines. They started to wrap themselves around me, entangling me within. I tried to struggle my way out, but it just got tighter and I started to sink in faster. I then realized what these vines were, it was Devil’s Snare. I reached for my wand and casted a bluebell flames spell. The vines shrunk back and I was able to escape.

| DEVIL'S SNARE PART TWO
PART ONE-PLANT DESCRIPTION It is a mass of soft, springy tendrils and vines, preferring dark, damp enviornments.
PART TWO-WHAT IT DOES TO IT'S VICTIMS? What does the plant do to try and trap it's victims? The Devil's Snare works a bit like a boa constrictor, it wraps its vine and tendrils around potential victims and slowly squeezes until the victim strangles to death. Like quicksand, if you fight against the devil's snare it will just tighten its death grip faster. It also, in small flower pots, look unassuming, as in Order of The Phoenix where it is sent to Broderick Bode at St. Mungo's, and it later killed him.
PART THREE-HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE DEVIL'S SNARE? The main thing to remember is not to panic! Keep a calm head and you will escape, just use a simple charm for light or fire and you should be out in no time.
PART FOUR-SENARIO (20) I have long suspected that my neighbor, Mr. Ramirez, is a Deatheater. I have never seen him without a long sleeved shirt on, nor have I ever seen him smile. I was told that he had been under the imperious curse during Voldemort's campaign, but I maintain that he was under no spell when he carried out the Dark Lord's commands. What I needed was proof. I waited until Mr. Ramirez went on holiday, probably to spread evil abroad, to carry out my plan. I decided to try to slip through his backyard and find entrance into the house so no one would see me from the front street. This was my first mistake. Mr. Ramirez's yard is pitch dark with overgrown plants, in some parts the sun is completely blotted out. I was determined not to be intimidated so I soldiered on. Soon it became apparent that I had made my second mistake. I was so deep into his backyard that I could no longer see where I was, the light was failing fast and I lost all sense of direction. Now mind you, my sense of direction is not good in well lit conditions either. It was strangely quiet in the backyard, so when I heard the soft, slithering sound I froze immediately. It was now so dark that I couldn't see my outstretched hands. Then I felt a whisper of a touch on my ankle. Startled, I screamed. I attempted to run forwards, but whatever was around my ankle suddenly tightened and pulled me sideways. Soon other parts of my body became captive by what I was fast figuring out were vines from a Devil's Snare. I tried to calm down, but when I reached for my wand with my one free hand it wasn't there. Third mistake. I had left my wand at home. Panic seized my heart as more and more vines came to wrap around me. I managed to get my hand in my pocket, rifling through loose change and objects that my frantic mind could not now identify. I needed light, I needed fire! I could not believe I was going to die here. No one would ever find me and know that I had been right about Mr. Ramirez. Forcing myself to calm my breathing, I realized that I did have a method of escape. In my other pocket I had a lighter. I had taken it from my friend CC earlier in the day in an attempt to get her to quit smoking. It wasn't magic, but I bet it would work if I could just get to it. I relaxed my body, now able to focus on my escape. Once I was perfectly still I felt the vines slow down their strangle hold on my body. Fortunately none had wrapped around my head or neck. Slowly I took my free hand and stretched to my limit for the opposite pocket of my jeans. I was lucky because the lighter had not yet slipped to the depths of my pocket and instead I was able to retrieve with just a little effort and a few unladylike grunts. Finally I had the lighter in my hand, now all I had to worry about was not setting myself on fire. I managed to get a flame on just the second try and held it the vine that had my trapped hand. Instantly the plant recoiled, fleeing fast from my arm. I continued to threaten the devil's snare with my lighter and it quickly released all but my one ankle that had first been made captive. Sitting up, I set blaze to the vine around my ankle. It let go and retreated so fast that it put itself out of fire. I got up and ran, blundering through the heavy flora and fauna until I made it to Mr. Rameirez's side gate. I no longer cared about gaining access to his house. I ran home and immediately showered, washing the devil's snares smell and feeling off of me. I tried contacting the Ministry Of Magic but they informed me that it is not a crime to grow devil's snare in your backyard as long as it is kept from sight of Muggles. I still believe that Ramirez is a Deatheater, however I plan on keeping quite a distance from his backyard for the time being.
