| *sighs* The things they could have done with this movie. *sighs again* I was a little disappointed with Eragon. They got the basic idea down, but they left waaayyyy too much out. I can't even list how much they cut. And Ed Speleers (Eragon) spent most of the movie looking confused or scared... But he was hot... when he was shirtless in his room, I think about half the theater fainted What did you all think of it? | |

| Yes, the book is AMAZING. I was so disapointed in the movie. Like Cookie said, they could have made such an awesome movie...but they took out way too many details and interesting aspects of the book. I won't say what for those who haven't seen it. It's a good movie, I'll give it that. But it could've been so much better. | |

| actually I thought the book had a lot of boring parts, and I was hoping that the movie would be good cause they'd cut out all those boring parts...hmm. I actually don't go much for the story at all, since it developed exactly the way I thought it would. I don't like it when I can guess the end of the story. XD it means the author has to work harder. | |

| Saw it today. A tad disappointed as they didn;t stick to the book very well and missed large important bits out. But to someone who hasn't read the book they would love it.
The thing is...the book if you think about it would be quite hard to do as a film as so much happens in a short period of time, and it would be quite difficult to put that into a film if you catch my drift.
Well I think it was good, but could've been a lot better if it just stuck more closely to the book!

I got really mad after seeing this commercial that said "Watch out Harry Potter, here comes the new fantasy adventure story...etc." I screamed at the TV "NOTHING IS BETTER THAN HARRY POTTER !!!!" XD
um...yeah....lol | |

| I went and saw it with my friend Tiffany... when it was over, she said to me, "If you were half as hot as that Eragon guys was, I would happily marry you!" And then I got all sad... But I thought it was an okay movie... the part that irritated me was that... I dunno... They said too much too soon. You know what I mean? I can't really explain it... And I have no idea how they're gonna make Eldest into a movie after this one. They didn't really build up enough... left out some parts that were pretty important not to this movie, but to the next one. | |

| Well... I don't know who told you that they were in Farthen Dur after half an hour, but whoever did is exaggerating. :P
Now I have to gripe about this, since it bugs me so much when people say it. Eragon is NOT a LotR knockoff. Any fantasy story that has a hero, elves, dwarves, and characters with magical powers shares elements with the LotR story, but while the ultimate goals may be similar, the story is so much different. Ahem, now that that's said,
Every film director has a different vision in mind when they make a movie. The guy that did Eragon could have done a better job sticking to the book, but if you think about it if they did, the movie could have been a day long. After watching some of the extra features on the LotR DvD, Peter Jackson mentioned that it got to the point where they had to cut out just about everything that didn't pertain directly to the main story. Katrina's absence, Murtaugh's lack of true character development, the short time travelling and in Farthen Dur, etc, were all things that weren't all that important to the story flowing, they just added to it.
Admittedly, I was very disappointed with Murtaugh. He was easily my favorite character in the book. In the movie, he seemed like more of a dumb brute than the deep character that he is. Him and, Galbatorix. They showed far too much of him (especially concidering that even by the end of Eldest, his physical make still hasn't been described. He looked much more like a sickly old man than the powerful tyrant that he should be. Finally, I think they developed the Shade, Durza, far more than warranted. He wasn't all that big of a part in the book, but in the movie he was an extremely prominent character. I guess the problem of it being a Hollywood mainstream movie is that an obvious good and evil has to be defined. The novel manages to express it in words, but for the movie to do the exact same would be near impossible.
While Ed Speelers (Eragon) was certainly cute, I thought that Jeremy Irons (Brom) easily out staged him. The entire time he was on the screen, his presence added something that Speelers just doesn't quite have yet. For anyone who's read the book and knows what I'm talking about, his performance had the theater in tears while I was there. Saphira was incredible as well.
Wow, sorry for an essay-length post, but this is probably my favorite book, and I'm fond of the movie as well. If you haven't read the book yet, you'll love the movie. If you have, keep an open mind and remind yourself that the movie will not - and can't - be everything the book is. Not every movie is going to be as good as LotR, otherwise LotR wouldn't seem so good.

Who knows, maybe it was short because of budget issues.

My rating -100000000000/10. If you loved the book, don't go see it.
Bad directing, scenes on the dragon that make you want to throw up, actually for that matter, badly designed dragon, bad acting, wrong casting, bad visual effect...the list goes on.
Don't waste your money on it.
