| Subject: Sirius, the star Thu Dec 28 2006, 21:47 | |
| Ancient Egyptions called Sirius the 'Dog Star', after their god Osiris, whose head in pictures resembled that of a dog.The star Isis or mostly known as Sirius is the brightest star in our night sky. It is only about 81/2 light years distant and travels towards earth at many thousands of miles per hour. The system of Sirius contains two stars. The larger and brighter of the two, Sirius A, is three time the mass of our sun. Sirius A easily overshadows her darker companion star. Sirius B is a "whit dwarf" star and invisible to the naked eye. The Sirius system is upstream of our solor system. Because of this, we now know that the polarized energies of Sirius was over us. By coming directly towards us, Sirius creates an axis of rotaion with Earth relative to the stella background. Because of this all the stars matches thelenght of our solar year. 365.25 days. The Ancient Egyptians were somehow aware of this relationship between our system and Sirius and marked the heliacal rising of Sirius as the first day of their calendar year. Even today our New Years Eve celebration is a contination of a most ancient ritual honoring the return of Sirius to the mid heaven postion at midnight. Around 12 midnight on January 1st marks the alignment pf the enrgy of Sirius, directly overhead, most closely touch our lives in most singular purity. Sirius B traces and orbit around Sirius A and their common senter of gravity, directly face Earth like the dial of a clock. It takes 50 years to complete their orbit. As Sirius B spins on it's axis 23 times a minute it generates a magnetic field and pulls huge amounts of gas and material from it's less dense comapnion. The gravitiantional attraction to these stars and the energies they release is difficult, if not impossible for the human mind to comprehend. Large amounts of electromagnetic radiation, including visible light, ultraviolet, Xrays, gamma rays and beyond are thrown into space. The extra gas that Sirius A does is for her companion to re-ignite fusion reactions within Sirius B and once again her eternal lover noe blazing brightly is reborn.Every 49.9 years, Sirius A and B come real close together as the orbit , creating magnetic stroms. As they approach the star spin faster as tidal forces become stronger and actually trade places with eachother. As Sirius B moves past periastron, the ligt generated by their shared energies begins to dimish until eventually, it resumes its role as the dark companion. Here is one of many unsolved mysteries on the star: Sirius B has been observes since 1894, suggesting a very small companion star. Could there be a Sirius C? Two French researchers, Danile Benset and J.L Duvent, wrote an article in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics with the titel Is Sirius a Triple Star? and suggested there was a smaller star. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sources: I read some in a book called "The Sirius Mystery" http://www.siriuslink.com/brightest.php | |
