| I'll begin the discussion if I may Felix Felicis is a potion which is spoken about a lot in HBP, though I do wonder whether it is whats not said which might be important. I have had a look at the classes which run alongside this discussion (which I hope to do later) and I notice that you mention the battle a few times which has made me think. What if Hermion and Ron etc were not the only ones using the potion that night? Snape is a key figure who seemed to get precisly where he needed to. Hermiones insticts did not even tell her that something was wrong when she saw Snape, yet shouldn't the potion she took given her luck with instincts? Therefore, why did she not realise, unless perhaps Snape took the potion as well and they hit against each other? Another theory, though, could be that felix gives luck for aspects which are meant to happen. What if Snape was meant to be on that tower and do what he did, therefore the felix felicis in hermione's system would have allowed Hermiones instincts to not overall and allow the process to act the way they needed to. | |

| I think the facts that Hermione and Luna didnt recongnize Snape was bad is really interesting, though for the purpose of discussion I will try and shut them down.
They only took a little. Maybe a sip, probably less then a mouthful considering how many of them had to take it. There is no evidence proving this but I thought maybe that the results are stronger when taken in gusto, and Hermione simply having to stand gurad only took a little.
Another possibilty it that Hermione over analyzed the situation therfore disregarding the Felix. Afterall, it does not force you to do anything. Maybe she though she was begin mislead and in her haste to be doing the right thing obeyed Snape. Just suggestions and I know there not very well backed up.

| I think what you say about the felix not forcing anyone to do something they dont want to is a very good point, as is the strength of the potion heightening the more you have. If it works like muggle alcohol then this is extremely possible.
Although Lana also makes some interesting points, especially looking at Snape. What if Snape needed to get to the tower. What if the magic of the castle itself was oposing the potion. We have seen that the castle itself is magic so could this be a posibility?

| I stand by the argument that Snape was able to get to the top of the tower and kill Dumbledore because that was what Dumbledore meant to happen. Just a drop can go a long way to ensure a perfect day, and I can't imagine that a perfect day would include the death of a beloved Headmaster...but it's an interesting theory that Snape might have taken it as well for those that like the Snape is Evil side.
My biggest problem with Felix Felicis is that I don't know if it's appropriate for 16 year olds to be taught how to brew something that can be misused and abused like that. It'd be like teaching juniors or seniors how to make Moonshine or something. I'm surprised that it isn't age restrictive.
