Hogwarts, A History?

JK ROWLING is planning to write an eighth Harry Potter book, it was claimed last night. But fans shouldn't get too excited. Instead of a new novel, the writer is apparently considering compiling an encyclopaedia of magic. According to reports last night it would cover historical figures such as the founders of Hogwarts school, along with elaborate genealogies of major characters. The book would also allow Rowling the chance to flesh out characters who only merit passing mention in the novels.



Readers will remember that Jo has said in the past this was a possibility on her website, and the most recent last June on the Richard & Judy program where she said " Yeah, well I have always said I might do a kind of encyclopaedia of the world for charity, just to round it off." While this sounds very exciting indeed, please keep this very much in the rumor category for now. We are trying to obtain more information about this and will update as soon as we can.

If this is true, then it's great! I'd definitely buy it, and it would mean the Potter experience would be prolonged yay

.. up to now I've got fantastic beasts and where to find them and I've read quidditch through the ages from a friend (me luffies her hehe) .. and they were great! I want moooooore! :D

but to me, it doesn't really matter what Jo writes after Hp, it can even be something totally different from the HP universe or even from the fantastic genre, I'd still read it!

...honestly, I'd prefer for her to write something non-fantasy next (well, after this companion book, if it does appear indeed).. I wouldn't like people to put her in the "fantasy" box and think she can't write anything else, because I'm sure she can! ... but that's another thread XD

Apparently J.K. told Meredithe Viera yesterday on the TODAY show that she intends to write an encyclopedia of sorts on the characters...their lives before and after the books...I will be the first in line to buy this. We may be waiting a while though...she says she'll be taking time off.

woooop that should be cool that would be sure to answer all our questions. I hope she does do that. It would be great and another thing for us to look forward to.

I really can't wait for the encylopedia. I will be the firt one in line at my barnes and nobles. I read Quidditch Through the Ages and Fanstic Beasts like a book and I will definitly do the same thing for this one..

In her Book Tour she said she hadn't even started it.. so I guess we'll have a long while to wait

yeah I watched an interview and she said she was going to wait a while before writing it.
