Potter Pronunciations

This is more for those who read the books before seeing the films, because the films will have told you the correct pronunciations. But, when you first read the books, how did you pronounce some of the more...unusual names?

For me:

Hermione - I pronounced "herm - won"
Seamus - I pronounced "see-mus"
Accio - I pronounced "achio" (and still do)

There are more, but my mind has gone blank :D

What about other people?

i used to pronounce hermione "herm-i-own"
and the same with accio and seamus....except that i that akkio makes more sense...and it sounds better

I used to pronounce Sirius "sir-I-us" Yes, weird I kno... lol and How do you pronounce seamus then? Because I say See-mus

You pronounce Seamus like "shay-mus"

For me:

Seamus: "See-mus" I always have.
Hermione: I used to say it like "Herm-ah-nie"

This one really confuses me. Private Drive.
I always said it like "Pr-eye-vate" but in the movie it said "Pr-i-vat." I still say it my way though. lol.

Then there was git. My sisters said it was prounounced like the "G" in Ginny's name. I don't think I've heard it in the movies, so I'm not entirely sure about how to say it.

That's all I could think of at the top of my head for now.

okay I know this might be weird but Azkaban I would pronounce: "U-zak-u-ban" I still say it that way even though it is "Az-ku-ban"

No I don't know why I say it that way, but I do lol

your right thats weird but very original though i cant think of anything i didnt pronounce correctly but i guess thats because my sister was reading the books before me so i just had to ask her instead of saying it wrong

I always misspronounces Narcissa (i forget how I mispronouced it... long time ago....), and my BFF said Luscius loush-i-s. lol.... were both bad at pronouncation. I found a pronunciation guide somewhere..... i think it was in the harry Potter section at www.scholastic.com..... idk.

I've pronounces Cissy as Sissy. lol. and i always pronounce divination as divintion. I've always pronounced Hermione right probably becasue my mom read me the first book and it stayed with me. I too, pronunced Seamus see-mus until last year when my aunt told me it was shamus.. lol. i can't remeber what else i prononced wrong but it will come to me...

Hermione as Herm on nee
Seamus as See muss
Narcissa as Nacrissa with a hard c
some of the spells i mispronounse too.
Rowling as Raw ling

Ginny was Genuie (Like the one you find in a lamp XD)
Slytherin was Slyther-een
Gryffindor was Gryff-INdor

I have a friend who pronouced Lockheart as Lockchart, and Dolorus as Doilers...
