Princess Diaries

Has no one yet opened a thread for this one? I was nearly sure there was one somewhere...but I couldn't find it. Anyway. I HATED this movie.

Well. I didn't hate the movie. If it were a stand-alone movie, it'd be okay. Nothing outstanding, but okay. What really bothers me is that they based this off a book, and then they change EVERYTHING except for five little facts. Mia is a princess of Genovia, she has an artistic mother, who falls in love with her teacher, Mia has a best friend Lilly with a TV show, and Lilly's brother likes Mia.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE BOOK, PEOPLE? Mia's father is NOT supposed to be dead. Her grandma is NOT supposed to be so nice and understanding. It's supposed to take place in NEW YORK!!! Not California. I could go on and on...but they've really messed this up.

When I watched the deleted scenes and listened to the director talk a bit, I understood why it is so messed up. Apparently, the director decided to use Princess Diaries to get rid of every little plot bunny that had been in his head since forever. Consequently, the movie ended up being nearly NOTHING like the books. EW EW EW EW EW. >.<

I agree - as a film in its own right, it's OK. But as an adaptation of the book? Bad, bad, bad!

I do like the film, and I've watched it several times, but it is nothing like the book at all. They kept *some* of the same characters (where's Boris??) and changed the plot.

And don't even get me started on Princess Diaries 2, which has maybe three facts from the books in it.

Again, a cute movie, but this time not only did it have next to nothing to do with the books, it had nothing to do with the first movie! Honestly, some people just shouldn't be allowed to make movies out of books.

I think movies that are made from books are all the same - horrible to those who have read the book, great for those who haven't. Well, in most cases. Like Anne of Green Gables *shudders*


Anyway, having not read the book (lol XD) I think it was a good movie. It was funny and cute and Anne Hathaway is a great actress, plus in the second one we had Julie Andrews singing! And well Julie Andrews being in it just makes it awesome lol.
