| Level Four: Wand Responsibilities Owning a wand requires you to be responsible, and to care for it as you would any other piece of magical equipment. In at least 500 words, discuss your wand responsibilities. Write about the ways you will use your wand in everyday life. Will you let your newfound power go to your head? How will you ensure your wand stays in tip-top condition? Be as detailed as possible and include any other points you feel necessary. Pass mark: A score of 60 or more. Essays in fewer than 500 words will fail. If you fail, you are able to retake the test. NO COPYING OTHERS ESSAYS - YOU WILL FAIL! | A wand is a very important thing for wizards and witches,it is very important in the magic world and in the real world too.I know it is not allowed to use magic in front of any muggle, but sometimes we get attacked even in the real world like when the dementors attacked harry and Dudley and harry defend himself and Dudley with his wand because he had to or else they would be dead.So my wand of course I will do everything to keep it safe,I will clean it every night before sleeping,I will put it someplace where it cannot get dirty or broken and I will put it in its box in a safe place like in a drawer and close it with a key and keep the key with me,or I can keep it in the bag where I put all my magic things(books, school clothes, newspapers, letters etc.)and of course I close this bag and hide it where no one can find it.I will always keep it with me everywhere all the time because it is very important when I get attacked anywhere(in the real world or magic world)I will use my wand to defend myself and also help and defend the other people with me,and I will never use my wand to hurt anyone or anything, just to defend myself and to do other simple things with it like fixing something broken, cleaning something dirty and things like that. When I will be anywhere out of my house I will make sure to keep the wand in a bag or if I have a big pocket I can put it in there better than a bag so if I need to use it I will get it out faster, and like this it cannot be broken or lost or stolen, and I cannot get hurt by anyone or anything that tries to hurt me.Another thing,if anyone asked me to give them my wand to do something with it,I will not accept and I will not give my wand to anyone even if I know this someone who wants to use my wand, because no one knows what they will do with it or use it for, maybe they want to hurt someone with it or do something bad,and of course if I ask them what they will do with it they will tell me fixing something or make a small thing with it,I will never know what they are up to no matter what they tell me,maybe they want to steal it from me,take it and then cast a spell on me with it,and in this situation I cannot defend myself with anything, and if they are bad they can even use my wand to kill me with avada kedavra or something else.So these are the most important things to do with my wand:take care of it,clean it everyday, keep it in a safe place, keep it always with me,use it to defend myself and use if for doing good things, never use it in front of a muggle(I can only use it in front of a muggle if I am in grave danger)and the most important thing never give my wand to anyone because I never know what they are up to | |

| "Some wizards just like to boast that theirs are bigger and better than other people's.”
-Hermione Granger
The wand, the most essential tool of any witch or wizard should be used with the utmost caution. Wands are what we use to cast our various spells and charms with a simple swish and flick. It is true, one doesn’t need to use always use a wand but the majorities do on a daily basis. The ability to cast wandless magic is rare trait indeed and most wizards or witches never grow to learn it, which is why the need for a wand is significant. A wand can focus our magic into a single core, the tip of a wand and release it. A wand is shaped out of wood, craved from various kinds of wood (everything from vine wood to ash), and each of these woods have different magical properties associated with it. Within the core of the wand lies the magical essence – there are a few kinds but just to name one: a phoenix feather.
As with any magical item there comes great responsibility and the wherewithal to use it. The wand itself gives the wizard or witch the power to use the magic lying inside of them. It can be viewed as a gateway to our powers within. Just because we have a wand to do magic doesn’t make us better than someone else. If you notice the quote at the beginning of this essay I strongly disagree with wizards and witches that use wands to compete with each other. Wands are not a toy and someone could seriously become injured if not used properly. The wand is just a tool we can use; it’s the wizard behind the wand controlling it. With that being said there are certain morals and guidelines as a person we must follow.
Not all wizards and witches are good and they will use their wands as a means to fill their greed and desires. We can do anything with a wand – everything from cleaning a dish to even taking human life. With this knowledge we have to set moral guidelines for ourselves. A wand should never be used to harm another individual unless you are the one being attacked, it should never be used to control another being. We must respect peoples privacy and that can easily be broken if we were to cast an eavesdropping spell. Just because we have the ability to cast it doesn’t mean we should use it. Some spells are more harmful than others, as a witch or wizard we should be able to tell the difference.
When it comes to using my own wand, I will not abuse the privilege because that’s what magic is – a privilege. My wand will always be at my side and I will use it to help others, not only just myself. If work demands the use of my wand I will use it. I won't constantly use it to make life easy for me, there’s nothing wrong with cleaning a dish by hand every once in a while. Absolute power can corrupt absolutely and many wizards and witches will easily let that go to their head. There is always the possibility that I may let it go to my head but I will make sure it doesn’t. That is what I can promise.
Taking care of your wand is very important. If not handled with the utmost care, it can become defective. If you remember the incident with Ron’s first wand – spell-o-tape isn’t always the best solution for an easy fix, if your wand it broken you should take it to a wand shop to get it fixed or buy a new one. Broken wands lead to unstable magic, you might want to change your socks white but you could end up with bear claws for feet! This is why taking care of your wand is very important – a good polish does wonders as well as keeping your wand in a safe place where it won't get broken. Keep it out of a child’s reach at all times and don’t just leave it lying around for anyone to use. That is the basic care that should always be used when keeping your wand in tip-top condition.

| When it comes to wands, being that they are the essential tool for any witch or wizard to use their magical abilities, responsibility is of the utmost importance. Without proper care and education it could be dangerous and foolish to try and wield such a powerful item. Which is why when I recieve my wand I will take every precaution before unknowingly casting magic with it. This includes learning the ends and outs of how it works, why the wood and core of my wand combine and chose me as the wizard that it binds itself to. A better understanding of my wand will grant me a better understanding of my abilities and nature as a wizard. Since the wand chooses it's master I think it would be wise for all witches and wizards to look into why their wand chose them, what qualities they posess and the magical property of the wood and core of their wand, what each entails and it's importance to the magical ability we have.
When it comes to taking care of my wand it would be necessary for me to make sure it is in a secure place at all times. Either on my person at all times or safely placed inside of a wooden box specifically designed to hold and protect a wand. Then, after properly placing my wand in this box I would ensure that it was put into a safe place, a hiding place, somewhere only I would know the location of. I would also make sure to keep the wooden object from falling into the hands of a muggle, taking it as a high priority to keep the muggle world oblivious to our existance in the wizarding community. A wizard's wand is the one thing that they should keep to themselves, never allowing another to use it, each witch or wizard has their own personal wand for a reason, that being it is theirs, they were chosen. It is also imperative to know where your wand is at all times, never misplacing it. Typical everyday use of my magic would be used more often than not. Cleaning or organizing things is a lot easier using magic than doing it by hand. Though of course there is no harm in doing things yourself, a little elbow grease humbles you and gives greater appreciation to the wonderful ability to cast magic. However, as stated earlier, my magic would only be cast when around other witches or wizards or when I am alone. I would never allow a muggle to witness its happenings, given that it is a law that magic is never to be revealed to those who do not have the affinity to use it.
Being able to cast charms and use magic brings with it the temptation to allow the power to swell one's head with pride and the notion that they are better. However, it takes a focused and responsible magic user to know that having the ability to cast magic is a gift, not a proclaimation of superiority. Unfortunately there are those who think the latter, taking a wreckless approach to using their powers, and abandoning all reasoning and rules. I would be no such wizard, I would consider my powers as a gift and would do my part in helping those in need, a protector of the innocent, defender of the muggles. I would stand for what is good and pure in the never ending conflict of good versus evil, true strength is compassion and respect for those that are defensless and your peers. This is why it is important that we as users of magic should understand the effects of each charm we cast. Whether it be a simple repairing charm or a more complicated one such as a patronus. Knowing what it takes to cast such spells gives us the knowledge of how much magic to put into the charm, the proper motions of the wand, to be sure that the correct spell is cast. Also the incantation, along with the proper wand motion, these to me are also important points we must take into account for proper wand use and responsibility. Without this knowledge a wand could be rendered useless and/or dangerous in the hands of one who does not understand its workings.

| A wand is something special to a witch or wizard. A wand can form a complex 'bond' because a wand chooses its user. The wand then will help the magic user by channeling their magic through. Because a wand is needed for that purpose, it is very important for each magical human to take very good care of it.
Any object, whether is a quill or an heirloom all need to be properly taken care of. The wand has to be carefully stored in one of a robe’s deep pockets or somewhere it can just drop out and get lost unnoticed. I will have to treasure it as something priceless, which it is in a sense. Also whenever and wherever I am, I should make sure it stays in top-notch state. I would not want it to have multiple scratches, smudges, or any thing that proclaims that I am not a very responsible person since everyone should treasure their wand. During the time I have a wand, I will also practice defensive spells so if I duel, my wand will not get a) damaged during the process or b) taken by the enemy since even though I can cast spells on other people’s wand, I need my own wand to cast correct/perfect spells
Having a wand is an exciting responsibility. Even if the wand looks absolutely splendid, I would not go around showing it off to others. Also I will not also go around casting spells just to be lazy. For example, if I want something that is just a few feet away, instead of saying the ‘accio’ spell, I can just walk over thus not ‘abusing’ that I could use my magic with my wand. As Snape said ‘there is no foolish wand waving…’
A wand also means that I could be able to do many different kinds of magic spells, hexes, or even curses. I would not go around casting spells on others will my wand to make them sprout beaver teeth or in our words: make fun of them. While sometimes I could use my wand to cast prank spells that is different from making fun and hurting someone. If I do not have the complete knowledge of what I am doing, I should not be casting a random spell for fun. For example, if I find a spell like Sectumsempra, that I have not seen or used before, I will not use the spell on a random ‘test subject’ to show of that I can perform a spell even though I have never even practiced before. Plus if I do something illegal with my wand, it even can get taken and snapped which is a horrible thing to do to a witch or wizard.
Because a wand is an important responsibility to every witch or wizard, when I get my very own, I will not abuse the fact that I have a wand and will take good care of it to show that I really deserve it

| I wand is the most import instrument that a student at Hogwarts could have. It helps them achieve magic and spells that would not be possible without it. Proper care for your wand is very important and if something should happen to it make sure you talk to the wand maker and see about getting it fixed. It is also good to notice that a wand has great importance but it can also have great importance to someone else. What better way to attack a wizard then by taking his wand or worse using his own wand against him. Surely that would make you wish you took control and paid better attention to your wand. For you never know when the magic turns and attack you from behind.
Of course apparition is awesome and so much fun, but my wand would have way more uses then that. I would help my mother by flicking my wand and making dinner, or doing those nasty dishes. Having trouble with cutting the grass, no problem I’ll just flick my wand. Of course I’d mainly use my wand to duel with my siblings. What better way at having fun then attacking your brothers with your very own wand?? Of course I’d use spells that were legal, *winks*. So what if I accidentally turned my brother into a pumpkin...
With all this excitement coming and going it’s hard to say that I could let this newfound power go to my head. Surely I would have endless possibilities with a flick of my wand. Of course like the old saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility. The downside is with all this power enlarging my head its hard not to get in trouble. I can’t remember the last time that I wasn’t grounded. Surely my parents have to remember when they got their first wand, of course they reply with the “well I never turned the house into a swamp”. Ok so maybe I over did it....just a bit.
The most exciting part is keeping my wand in perfect condition. Using a special formula that has been passed down from generation to generations I could clean my wand. This cleaning isn’t like anything you’ve ever heard of. You have to wipe the wand in a very certain way that will help elongate and strengthen the ward to a glorious shine. At night time our wands are placed gently under our pillow, and when we sleep the wands glow as secret formula takes its effect. What this effect is, of course I’m unable to state due to privet matters.
So as you can tell my family has engaged in such acts that when one of their children receives their first wand everything else will fall nicely into place. Of course not all things are planed like how well will I take care of my wand and will I break the family rules of engaging in illegal games? I must assist in saying that these few paragraphs are just a few examples of how a wand has great importance; not just to the owner but also to the family of the owner. Holding this wand shows true power and loyalty within our family.

| Level four – Wand Responsibilities "Wandlore is a complex and mysterious branch of magic." - Mr. Ollivander, Deathly Hallows, Chapter twenty four A wand is possibly the most important and useful magical tool a wizard possess. In mythology just as much as in contemporary stories, it is rarely that a wizard or a witch will go along using powers without the help of a wand. Used for attacks, protections or merely amusement, a wand comes handy to everyone even in their everyday life. But, no matter how fun it might be to use, it is important to remember that a wand is not in any way a toy to play with. We must be careful and not think of it as a simple object we can replace if need be, and so keep it away from any harm that might come to it. To be more clear, though most people are aware of this, it is the wand which chooses the wizard, and not the contrary, and so, although it is possible to borrow someone else’s wand, the effects that might come from using it will not be the same, nor as good, as the effect of using the wand that was made for us. There are not two wands that are exactly the same – like snowflakes, each is unique in its form and making. The wood of which the wand is made is certainly a big part of its making, but possibly also of the choosing of the wizard that will bare it. Certain type of woods are described as stronger, harder, while other are more flexible and softer, and so possibly according to the wizard’s personality. Although a wand can be used in everyday life, I would not use it for simple purposes. The simple fact of having a wand can indeed make someone lazy, especially when it comes to things such as Summoning Charms or Housework Charms. Obviously, I would still use it sometimes, perhaps to help and do a bit of cleaning for example, but as I am still capable of using my two legs, I would not use it to ‘accio’ things to me instead of going to get them by myself. I would, of course, use my wand in case of emergencies. Protective spells might come in handy in times of danger, and it is surely much more efficient against burglars than any alarm system. Also, if there were to be a fire, a spell as ‘Aguamenti’ would be very good to put it out instead of waiting for the firefighters. Healing charms such as ‘Episkey’ can also be very helpful in a case of broken bones, and spells such as ‘Scourgify’ or ‘Reparo’ can be of great help when there are children around. Thankfully enough, I would not be the kind to let power go to my head. I’d rather remain as normal as possible – after all, there never comes any good from using something too much and too often. I am not one who seeks for power and so would not use my wand as such. Cheating would also be out of the question – there is not reward in winning when it hasn’t been done properly and fairly. Like mentioned above, I would try to keep my wands use to the strict minimum, only when it is necessary. Of course, I am not saint – I cannot say I would not use it now and then for personal gain matters, but I would try as much as possible to do good deeds with my wand. Power is wasted when it is used to do evil deeds, and I would not want to waste it in such a manner. My wand, being such an important tool, would be kept in good conditions, as much as possible. Dusting, cleaning, waxing, whatever it might take to keep is as good as new at anytime. Whenever I wouldn’t have it with me (which would be very rarely) I would be careful to put it away somewhere warm and dry since it is made of wood and humidity would do it not good. I would make sure to keep it safe and out of reach from whoever might use it in a wrong way, and I would also be careful not to overuse it so that it would stay in good condition for a long time. | |

| The wand is the most important thing to a witch or wizard, without it they are virtually powerless. To be able to have a wand is possibly the best thing they could buy. A wand needs to be cared for and looked after even dark wizards like voldemort cared for their wand. The wand chooses the wizard. Before I get my wand if I ever do I would make sure I knew all the precautions of using it. The magical ability would be no problem as that knowledge and ability would be earned at a magical school. I would go through all the precautions such as not to perform magic in front of a muggle unless it is a life threating situation. To know not to have my wand sticking out or hold it in my hand as I walk down the street in front of muggles as they may begin to suspect something. To also never leave it in your back pocket as many wizards have lost their lives because of such stupidity. It is also recommended that you buy a wand servicing kit to keep your wand polished and healthy. Upon receiving my wand I will go and buy one of them polishing my wand once a week. My mother always tried to keep things in top condition and since my wand will hopefully be my one and only until the day I die then I need to make sure it is in the best condition possible. Also in my attempt to keep the wand in perfect condition I am going to buy a special wand box with velvet sides to place it in at night. They come highly recommended. I will try not to use my wand as a means to hurt people as it is against the school rules and also cruel yet in an argument I can imagine whipping out my wand and cursing the other person. Although that is not kind and horrible I will try not to let my power go to my head. Also not using my magical ability for everything. I will try and keep my muggle skills alive such as cooking. I will try and not be completely dependant on my skills. Although magic will help me speed things up it is nice to show people that you have not forgetting the muggle way of doing things. I also plan to keep going to some of my muggles sports such as Judo and Taekwondo. This will also help me keep my calm and stop me from lashing out at everyone and cursing them into oblivion. Wand lore is a complex system and I plan to look slightly into it to see the pros and cons of what I am doing. People before who have had wands will also help me try and keep mine safe, secure and in top condition. Being raised in a wizarding family means that you can take some things for granted such as having a magical ability and I hope that I can stay aware that some people do not have this gift. I plan to keep my wand with me at all times and I hope that it does not get broken as I am extremely clumsy and I could fall over and break it at any time. Showing from what Ron did it shows that wands cannot be fixed using spell-o-tape. Therefore showing that I need to make sure that it is not broken or damaged. It is also shown that if the wand is not suited to you then your magical ability will not shine as it should. One thing I plan to do is practise basic spells for a few minutes before I go to bed to make sure that my wand is familiar with me. A wand can sometimes become like a friend and you need to keep them going with the spells. In conclusion I will try and keep my wand in the best condition possible.

| Wands come with many, many responsibilities. As they are one of the most essintial and useful tools for any witch or wizard, I will do everything in my power to hold on to it when I recive it. My wand must be hidden well from muggles, and as an underage witch, I am not to use it to do magic outside of school. My magic will be well praticed, and only preformed in front of trained professionals untill the day I turn seventeen. Also, I will only preform spells the ministry has pre-approved. Therefore, I will not lose my wand for any misuse of magic violation. With this newly found power, I know I might get a little overwhelmed. However, I promise I will not let it all go up into my head, and take over my thoughts. My wand would surely be kept out of reach of those who have no magical knowledge, such as muggles, or young children. They could possibly do somthing that would be dangerous, and therefore, it would not be helping withold my wand responsibilities. They do not know all of the things that can go wrong. A wand must be kept perfectly polished, with a nice shine, and free of splinters. Every night, my wand will get shined, and it will be kept in its case under my pillow. That way, nobody can get it and use it for evil. Because, really, who knows what other witches and wizards would do with anothers wand? My wand will be polished with the finest quality polish I can find, and a clean rag every night. The case will be kept clean too. Inside of it will be a cushion at the bottom, and the lid will fit snugly. I will use a fine sandpaper to remove any splinters that may come to be on my wand, although I hope there are none! Every morning, I will head off to classes, and start my wand work. I will keep it safely in my cloak, and make sure it is somewhere it can not get snapped in half accidently. With a wand comes new abilities I have never had yet before. I can preform spells, hexes, and curses now. I do solmenly swear that I will not hurt the weak and unprotected with this power. All my spells would be done for good, and good only. I would also do my best to help protect those weak and unarmed who are being hurt by the others with power. I plan to always have my wand by my side, and It will be somewhere where no one else can reach it, without me knowing. I should also keep it padded, as I am a klutz. Mabey wrapped in a cloth, or in a skinny box placed in my inside pocket of my school robes. This place would be easily accessiable. My wand would always be kept in a proper storage place when not being used, but in a public place. Such places would include its box, placed in my bag, or in the back pocket of my jeans. Hence, I realize owning a wand is a great responsibility, and I think I am ready to hold those responsibilities. | |

| A wand is pretty much the most important item a witch or wizard can own. Therefore, it requires a tremendous amount of respect and care. This includes quite a variety of things, such as proper wand care, basic magical knowledge, general wand safety, and (in my opinion, at least) moral use.
It would be very important to me to always have a wand that's in tip-top shape. How could a wand be used as an effective tool if it’s not shown proper care? I plan on purchasing a wand care kit the day I get my wand. I also intend to spend time everyday working on the maintenance of my wand, making sure not only that it always looks nice, but also that its magical properties are also well cared for.
If a witch or wizard has no sense of how to use basic spells, how can he or she expect to use a wand to it’s fullest potential? It is extremely important to be able to practice simple charms and other spells before someone is let loose in the world with such a crucial item. That is why we have so many regulations pertaining to use of wands by people of a student age and even for adults.
I think Professor Moody would have agreed with me on this point. It is very crucial to practice sensible wand safety. Sure it sounds a little silly to think of someone's buttocks being blown off, but it really seems to be something that could happen. I would want to make sure I have studied up on elementary wand safety before I even bother picking up my new wand. I really do not want anything so disastrous to happen to me.
Finally, and most important to me, is the willingness to use my wand for good purposes. Obviously, people have different views of what's right and wrong, and some people don't really even care. However, I can't stand the thought of knowing that something I have such a strong connection to was used to harm someone in a situation other than defense. I have every intention of making sure that I don't let myself get carried away with this new power. Like any other power, it is one that can easily be taken away. How many people have had their wands confiscated and snapped? I think that knowledge is something that is quite humbling. Aside from that, I really have no desire to do anything to harm a fellow member of the human race.
All these things are very important to me. I cannot imagine how I could be considered worthy to possess such a powerful object, if I were not first willing to learn to practice responsible behavior in regards to my wand. I hope that no wand would choose me if I did not first make sure I would not bring harm to it or to anyone through it. Too many people have already used these wonderful tools in ways that I just cannot approve of.

| Relationship
After receiving my wand, I would feel extremely honoured. The wand chose me and I would treat it carefully and with respect. Having and owning a wand is a privilege so I would not abuse my powers. As an underage witch, my magic will be limited to inside my school. I will use my years at Hogwarts wisely, learning spells, the technique behind it, and everything that I will need when I come of age (seventeen). As a quite a good student, I would learn and pass my exams to leave and get a skilled job where having a good knowledge of spells would be necessary.
At school, I would probably use some bad spells (curses and jinxes) because I have quite a temper if I am aggravated, and not having the maturity to deal with it in a reasonable adult way.
Power
I would not shout and brag about my wand as it is a very unwise thing to do, it would be kept on me at all times and only used when necessary. I would use it for mainly defence and having a weapon on my person would make me feel secure. Apart from doing household spells around the home, I doubt outside, I would use it.
The only time I would use an Unforgivable Curse, is when I was in mortal peril or someone I loved and cared about was.
Wand Care.
A wand is a magical object which is a privilege to own, so I would take care to keep it in excellent condition, in a special box (only when I was asleep). When I was outside, I would make sure it was always safely tucked away in an inside pocket to make sure it wouldn’t fall out and get lost. In my home I would probably keep it on my person, so I was ready and prepared for anything.
Also, I wouldn’t over use it and be dependant on my wand. As I enjoy cooking, magic would only be used if it needed to be done quickly
I would try to polish my wand, two to four times a week, this is essential for keeping it clean not only on the surface, but also smoothing out cracks which could eventually cause damage and ruin my perfectly functional wand. Additionally I would be careful not to do anything to damage the tip, which could result in some of my wand core falling out, which would lower its performance and make simple spells harder.
Everyday Life
Around the house, I will try not to rely on my wand and not let it become idle For simple chores, I would definitely use it, as it would same me time and a lot of effort. This would help my wand stay flexible and help myself become alerted more easily if the wand is showing any signs of malfunctioning.
In general I would treasure my wand, care for it, use it wisely and have the security of having a weapon on me.

| The Wand, The Witch, And The Responsibilities
For the witches and wizards in our time and all others, the most necessary and important item in life is a piece of wood with a magical substance particular to them inside. This would be a wand, and a wand is what I wish to receive in the near future.
With a wand, I feel I can truly belong in the Wizarding community. Usually, someone at my age has already had a wand for years, and knows the basics of spellwork and a bit more. Without one, I fear that I will get even more behind. I suppose that it is not all a bad thing that I do not have my wand yet. I have been able to observe what can go wrong when one is not responsible in the caretaking of a wand, and will therefore be much more likely to care for mine.
In reply to the question of my new ability going to my head, I am not going to lie. I will be very excited about finally having a wand, and will most likely show it to everyone I have ever met within the magical population. But this does not mean that I will go around hexing them all, good heavens no! Just like someone winning a trophy, I will want to show it off a bit, but it will not go further than that unless I prove to be proficient enough at spellwork to do a bit of fancy magic with it.
In every day use, my wand will come in handy during classes, for the most part. I can finally start to use the charms I have been taught, and so it will help immensely for my education. Also, when at home, I am sure I will use it regularly as well. But this is just focusing on the now – what about the future? Once I am out of this sheltered environment, my wand will prove even more important. I will be out in the real world, and not everyone there is a friendly do-gooder. If I learn proper defensive magic here at school, it will protect me from what might be lurking in the great shadowy “out there.”
Wands require care, and it is important to keep them in tip-top condition so that their performance will also be in tip-top shape. Many wandowners do not see it necessary to keep a wand polished or schedule regular appointments with an expert so that he or she can assure you that everything is going fine. Now, I know what you are thinking, “She’s going to say she’ll do the opposite.” As I said above, I am not going to lie to you. I have a hard enough time keeping my room in order, and remembering to care for my wand is going to be an adjustment. With most wands, however, they are pretty low maintenance, which is right up my alley. Polishing is superfluous, so I will probably forget to do that, but I will most assuredly take it in to the wandmaker if it starts acting up or I feel that it is time for a check-up.
These things said, I hope you will consider my getting a wand to be the right choice for me at this time.

| Being a witch or wizard a wand is one of the most important instruments we use. So the care and responsibilities it entails should be fully understood before receiving a wand of your own.
As a young witch about to receive my wand I think it’s important that I know and understand that just because I have a wand it doesn’t mean that I must use it for every little thing. The care of my wand is also very important. As is having it ready at a moment’s notice if it’s required.
When I receive my wand it is my duty to know and understand that I don’t need to use my wand for small trivial things that I can do just as quickly with my own two hands. After all just because I will be in possession of a wand it does not mean I now have an excuse for laziness. I must also realize and take into account that just because magic is an everyday part of my life, doesn’t mean that it will be the same for everyone around me. So learning to use my wand only in the right situations is ever so important.
Also understanding and realizing that until I am of the correct age I must not use magic outside of school and outside of learning purposes. After all, an untrained witch or wizard can be hazardous with the wrong spells and an unskilled hand at wand magic. Upon receiving my wand I must take all of this into consideration and try my hardest to keep my head level.
I must also keep my wand clean and always in its best condition. A wand that is broken or not cleaned properly may cause even the simplest spells to go astray and can often have dire consequences. I think a regular cleaning schedule and a semi-yearly trip to the wand repair shop would do my wand a bit of good. That way I know my wand will always be in proper working conditions. Since one, even smallest astray spells can cause large amounts of damage to myself and others.
Learning and understanding where is a proper place for wand work and where isn’t, is also a large factor one should always consider when taking on the responsibility of carrying a wand. For instance, in the middle of your charms classroom during a class lesson is an acceptable place for wand work. But on the other hand in the middle of a muggle pub or street is not by any means an acceptable place to pull out or use your wand.
But in the same respect if a battle or something that you need quick wand working arises you must also be skilled with your wand to quickly and efficiently take care of the situation. So a well versed knowledge of my wand and it’s limits is also something I should know and understand when taking on and accepting my wand. After all too much strain or even one way ward spell could cause myself and my wand massive and possibly irreversible damage.
In conclusion, I must know and understand my wand from the inside out. And I must also understand and realize that just because I have a wand it does not mean that I need to use it, some tasks should be accomplished the natural way. I must also know and keep up a regular maintenance and cleaning schedule for my wand, to keep it in the best condition possible. And I should understand and know that a wand is a privilege and also responsibility, a responsibility that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

| As a witch, a wand is very important for me. Without it, I could not use my magic like I should. Wand come in use for many things, like battles and dueling. Without it, I could be killed or hurt. It’s very important to not let the fact that having a wand and being able to use magic mess with your head. If you let it do that, you could end up messing something up. Always, there are many rules for owning a wand. And being under 17, you can’t really use your wand, except in school or protecting yourself. Knowing the fact that I have a wand, I would be very show offing. But I will try and obey the rules by not doing permanent damage to the person. I will use my magic with lifting heavy objects that I couldn’t move myself. I won’t be lazy and use my wand every second of the day just because I have one and don’t feel like moving. Also, I won’t try spells on others until I’m fully sure I know who to do it. To take care of my wand, I will buy a wand polishing set and polish it at least twice a week. I would remember not to leave it laying around and set it near me at night so I can reach it incase of an emergency. If something was wrong during the night and I had no idea where my wand was, I would feel responsible incase something bad happen to someone I knew or didn’t know. I would try and use my wand for good to. If someone or something needed help really bad, I would try my best to do so. I would not, however, use healing spells. I would make sure I knew how to, like I said above. I would also try and not let my anger get the best of me, because I may end up doing something I regret, and would not know how to use a healing spell. Having a wand can be fun, but you shouldn’t use them for everything just because you have one. If you use it just to tie your shoes, brush your hair, etc, maybe you shouldn’t even have one. It’s all nice to have one, but pulling it out for ever little mess it not right. Most wizards try and act more like muggles and use their wands for certain things, while some think a wand is used for everything. If I get mine, I would only use it for important things, like I said above. So having a wand would be useful, but would also get my called lazy every once in a while. I’m not saying I won’t have a lazy day, because I may, but I promise to use my wand the way I’m suppose to and wait til I’m of age before I go and do something to help myself and other, unless in a desperate live saving moment. | |

| A wand is something all wizards should have but not all use correctly. Some abuse their rights to a wand and if someone else, mainly someone in the Ministry, finds out then they can get into a lot of trouble. Some use it to get revenge on others. This is one thing you shouldn’t do no matter how mad that person made you. A wand is not given to you so that you can go around and start cursing everyone you run into. If you hurt someone else with it or even try to kill someone else with it then you would have a chance to end up in Azkaban. Another thing that you cannot do with a wand is use it on a muggle. A muggle do not have any means of protecting themselves from any spells that you might place on them and if you curse a muggle you could not only wind up in jail but could risk the lives of that muggle and any people whom that muggle might know. You should try to use your wand as little as possible. You do not want to depend on it too much because if you ever run into a day when you might not have it you might not know what to do in that situation. You also do not want to use it to help make house chores faster and easier. You should try to do your chores without using any magic if you use magic on simple chores like cleaning something and if you use the wrong spell than something horrible could happen and you might end up hurting yourself or someone else who might live with you and you don’t want to risk that. There are some jobs that would require you to use your wand and you should not use your wand for jobs that you’re not expected to be doing. Your employer would expect you to use certain spells and if you try to do something that you don’t know what you’re doing during your working time and something bad happens that your employer might have to deal with the problems that you created and this will make them mad and you might even get fired from your job. You wouldn’t want to get fired from a good job just for doing a little extra. Sometimes you will get into a friendly duel with your friends and that would be okay to use those curses and hexes. Any other time than that you wouldn’t want to use them unless you’re using those type of spells for protection. Even if your dueling against your friend you will still have to watch what spells you use and make sure that you know their counter curses. Also you will have to find an area where there will be no muggles around to see you dueling and you must also be in a safe area near a place that you can go to for medical help if something does go wrong. When you get your wand there are many responsibilities that you will have and you have to make sure that you make the right decisions when you use your wand or else you shall have to suffer the consequences. | |

| A wand is a special thing that enables a wizard user to cast spells and charms to make life easier.I respect that the wand cannot be used until I am properly warned and trained on what the spell i am casting When I, Pickles receive my wand I will take care of it and make sure it is used in the correct way.I will use my wand only for good and protect the good from evil. If a situation comes up were i will need to use my wand, it will be used. I will not get my wand snapped in two by practicing magic in front of muggles that would be irresponsible and careless.I will look after my wand by polishing it every night with clearosil (xD) and I will not leave it near the fire to become scorched or cracked, I will also make sure that the dog doesn’t get hold of my wand.My wand will be the most important thing in my life as another will never work as well for me, this wand is special as it picked me from the others, I will not break that connection.I hereby swear that I will not allow the power to go to my head When I get my wand, I will make sure that I don’t become over powered or make myself seem anymore special than everyone else. I will not be like Voldemort and find my power as an excuse to kill and distress, it has been told to my friends, if I do become over powered by evil that they are to snap me out of the trance by taking my wand to safety for me and my wands protection. When I get my wand it will not become a bully, I will use it only to impress and protect. It will not be used to scare back those horrible school bullies! I will not even use my wand to poke someone in the back. The respect I have for my wand. My heart holds a lot of respect for my wand. I admire and look up to my wand for knowledge and power. I would rather die than have my prize wand snapped in two. I promise my wand will always stay in its case when it’s not being used, it WILL NOT HANG FROM MY BACK POCKET. What I will do if I..... 1. Loose my wandIf I loose my wand I will report it immediately to the lost and found section of the school I attend. Then I will trace my footsteps, starting from when I last held my wand. 2. Crack my wand.If I happen to crack my wand I will make sure that it is taken back to where I bought it. I will pay extra money to make sure that my wand is fixed properly and quickly. 3. I want to leave my wand in the dorm while I go out. If I wish to leave my dorm without my wand I will make sure that the cabinet I leave it in is locked and the key hidden or with me at all times. (I know it’s a bit over the top, but it was done quickly so I could get the housepoints for Hufflepuff!) | |

| My wand will be the most important object I will ever own. It will allow me to perform defensive and healing magic, as well as offensive spells when others or myself are in danger. I will lean how to use these spells correctly, though, before I attempt to use them on another human being. I will never let my new power go to my head, as I have seen what happens to people like that. I will never perform any spells in front of muggles, unless I have a dire need to do so (e.g. danger). My wand is my tool to help me complete my goals, it is not a toy. I will only use my wand for things I would normally not be able to do myself, like lifting heavy objects, or healing (once I learn how, and am completely sure of what I am doing).
If I ever lose or misplace my wand, I will immediately begin searching the most likely place it could be. I will then search the more out-of-the-way locations in an effort to locate my wand. I will try my best not to lose my wand, because it will be a hassle to have to report my irresponsibility. My wand will be like an extension of my arm, and I will always have it with me. I will be sure not to get my wand taken away, and I will always follow the rules so I can be trusted with a wand. My wand is not just a stick; it is a magical artifact that must be taken care of properly. I will polish my wand every night before bed, and store it in a certified wand case while I am asleep. My wand will be treated in the most exquisite ways possible.
I will never duel my friends in a place where we can be seen by muggles, and I will not use hexes or curses that are too dangerous, or that I do not know how to perform correctly. I will learn minor to moderate healing spells before I attempt to use my wand offensively, and will not use my wand to harm innocent people. My wand will only be used for good, so I will not become a terrible person with over-the-top power. I am sure that I can use my wand to the best of my ability, without breaking any rules that will get my wand taken away from me. My wand is the one that chose me, and if anything happens to my wand, I will be devastated. My wand is unique, and so I will not mistreat it as if it were an ordinary object.
After all this, it all comes down to that I will never use my wand for evil, let my power go to my head, use my wand in the presence of even one muggle, and make sure I know the proper procedures for my wand’s care and use. If I break any rules, I give my permission to everybody in the vicinity to slap me across the face.

| Wand Responsibilities: My Wand and IBy Cat VanBuirenKnowledge is the First Step to Responsibility! “Wandlore is a complex and mysterious branch of magic.” - Mr. Ollivander “The wand chooses the wizard, that much has always been clear to those of us who have studied wandlore.” - Mr. Ollivander Wand CareA wizard’s wand is not just a piece of wood wrapped around a magical element. It is the extension of that wizard's mind and arm that allows a wizard to control and direct their powers. A wand is individual to each wizard, from magical core, to wood, to the filthy prints around it. The first is essential, the second is aesthetic and the third is disgraceful. Since a wand is kept in one’s pocket or on your desks, it is likely that it will get scratched and abrasions, not to mention of course fingerprints which I am obsessive compulsive about. There is of course a way to prevent this and keep your wand in good condition; it is to polish it. Every two or three weeks it is good to polish your wand using a quality wand cream. Wand cream can be expensive, but just wiping your wand with your robes will not do the trick. It will instead cause more wearing off the wood and leave more scratches. Another thing to remember is that leaving your wand out and about is bad for your wand. The core was once part of a living, breathing, and magical creature. Leaving your wand laying about where children can reach it is a safety hazard for the child and anything around them. Also keeping them in some sort of storage compartment can prevent scratches and things being spilled on it. A good idea is to keep the wand’s original box cases to store it in over night. But of course don’t forget to spell-lock it from thieves. Why all the big fuss of preventing scratches and abrasions? Yeah spilling things on it and someone stealing it is bad. Even breaking it is understandable. But what will a few scratches do? It is simple, unless you are trained in wandless magic you need your wand to help you and the less of your original wand you have, the harder it is to do the magic. Witches and wizards who took little care of their wands have found that over time they have to shout incantations louder as their cores become useless. This is not to say that bigger wands are better, which some assume when they are told if spellwork is harder as their wands loose bits here and there. A wands power lies not in the wood or core, but in the wizard or witch. The wand just enhances the abilities. The size of the wand is just based on what the witch or wizard needs to help control their own abilities. Like say one wizard has control over the magic within himself and just needs something to channel his powers through, he may just have a small wand. And say a witch has little control of hers and needs something to moderate the magic so it doesn’t create unwanted chaos and explode every which direction, she will likely have a larger wand that will do this. Uses in Everyday LifeWands can practically be used for anything except creating new life, giving life back to the dead, or manufacturing passionate emotions such as love and hate. What the wand allows witches and wizards without wandless magic to be is lazy. No not all witches and wizards are, but it does allow them to be. For instance a wand can be used to summon an item from anywhere without leaving your seat. Of course I have decided that I will try my hardest to avoid being lazy and use it mainly for the following: • Class work. • Homework. • Protect myself or a companion. • To fight against my enemy when necessary. • To get things I can not reach without assistance. • To open jars without a man’s help. • To transfigure things into things I need. • For whatever wand work I would need when making potions. • And whatever else is deemed a reasonable use (heavy lifting, fixing things, etc.) What Not to Do(these things are things not to do when using your wand for non-magic purposes) • Pick or scratch any part of your body. • Use it to find things lost in the sand. • Kill anything from the bug family. • Toast marshmallows on the end of it. • Use it as a chopstick along with someone else’s wand. • Poke anyone in a cage with it. Casting spells to agitate the locked up person is one thing, but physically poking them with the wand is poor treatment of the wand. • Leave your wand out where little children can get it. • Leave it somewhere some other person can get a hold of it. • Abuse the power. • Wipe wand with robes. In the Case of a Lost WandIf you loose your wand it is best to contact the Ministry immediately. They do have ways of tracking your magic and their source is your wand. So if anyone uses your wand, they should be able to track it down in no time at all. As you are waiting for its return and are in need of a wand, there are rental wand companies that can be contacted. These wands are ones that were lost and no one claimed or ones of now-dead wizards and witches. This rental wand will of course not be as good as your wand, but it will be good for temporary causes. If your wand can not be traced, because of tracking removal spells or whatever other reasons, you will have to buy a new one. There is no guarantee your new wand will be as good as your last, but it will work better than a rental since, like the first, it will choose you. Of course getting a new one does mean you will have to take time getting used to the feel of the new one, but over time it will be just like old times, except hopefully this one won’t get lost. To Abuse or Not To Abuse the Power? “Wands are only as powerful as the wizards who use them. Some wizards just like to boast that theirs are bigger and better than other people's.” - Hermione Granger Though abusing my power will be tempting, I will do my best to not let it go to my head. As I said before, some witches and wizards do let the new power allow them the excuse of using magic for everything, but I do not want to be one of them. You need to be able to hold your own as a muggle can. Of course, I do not mean magic is bad and I should try not to use it. I mean that I must learn to not require it for every task. And by this I Swear... | |

An Essay on the Wand.
There are a myriad of things that a wand, first and foremost, is not. A wand is not a toy. That is perhaps the first thing that children may forget, so long have they played with mock-wands and the like, that the seriousness of a wand’s potency and power does not impress upon them. A wand is not something to be fought: it chose you. A witch or wizard must remember that. It is a privilege to own a wand, to know what a wand is like in the palm of your hand, to have it fit perfectly and know – just know – that it is yours and yours alone. Perhaps such respect and awe is beyond a child just earning their own wand, but as an adult and fully trained witch or wizard, it is in the very air one breathes. A wand is not a weapon.
Many will debate against that, of course: a wand fires spells, casts curses, flings hexes and etc. But, a wand is not a weapon, because are you a weapon? If you were considered one, would you wield yourself like a knife and strike out at people simply because, as a weapon, it is your duty to maim and kill and torture? No. It will not do to debase a wand’s purpose and meaning by making it something so common and useless as a weapon. Weapons are swords, knives, poisons… but not something as beautiful as a wand.
A wand is, however, a tool. An apparatus of learning, of centre and of being. It is a friend and a life companion and an extension of one’s arm. A wand is all these things, because it chose to be, because it chose you, the witch or wizard good enough to be its master.
My wand, I would treat as all these things. My wand would be my constant companion, my comfort, and my safety. Through my wand I would learn myself and my magic. Through my wand I would be able to protect myself and my friends and family. Through my wand do I find completion in life, for without it I have not the means to use my magic. So with that in mind, my wand would be kept in a condition fit for all the tasks I would ask of it, for the return of a lifetime of centre and being.
So all I can say for myself is this; as a wand owner I would keep my wand clean, and as in excellent condition as possible. In return for the power my wand gives me, I would strive for my best and to reach my full potential – but I am not so foolish or arrogant to think that I would go to any extremes such as making myself the most powerful, or the most talented witch, and go on a power-mad rampage. No, while I am human and will err on the side of judgment, I shall not exceed what is proper and right by my wand, by the law and by my own conscience.
Of course there are the smaller things: manners and mannerisms that spring from use of a wand, that come with time. But I expect those lessons also come with the passage of time, and knowledge and learning, so I expect there is more yet for me to know than I do now.

| Level Four: Wand Responsibilities
Owning a wand requires you to be responsible, and to care for it as you would any other piece of magical equipment.
A wand is one of the most critical pieces of equipment in the wizarding world and to make the most of it, a wand must be used correctly and responsibly. A wand can be used as a weapon, but I wouldn’t use it in that way unless I was, or another defenceless person was, in a death or dangerous situation. I would use it for household tasks and spells, like Tergo, cleaning, only to speed up the chore, and also to carry fragile, heavy and dirty items over a patch of ground that was particularly bumpy and difficult.
Keeping my wand clean, protected and out of danger would be one of my primary concerns as a new wand owner. I wouldn’t place my wand in the back pocket of my jeans, as Harry does in the Order of The Phoenix, for risk of bodily, physiological or wand harm. I would clean my wand at least monthly and yearly take it to specialist cleaners, to try and keep mishaps at a minimum rate. I would permanently keep it by me of a night, in its original box, to reduce the chances of it breaking or theft.
I never lose the things that are closest to me, and I never use them unless I feel pressured to or it is really needed. I have a small personal safe and when not in use at home, I will place the wand in till I need it. It would be safe. I am not naturally a careless person but accidents do happen and a wand is a thin thing and easy to break, and so I would take every precaution to keep it from damage.
When I am given power, I never use it for bad, only beneficial things, and I never let it get to my head and change who I am. I am always the responsible, sensible and wise one in any group I am with.
We should accept our wand as another part of us, and a wand will choose me, if eventually, and treat it with the due respect that we would treat a part of our body. If we break our wand and have to throw it away, we should feel as if we are losing a part of our body, and just because we have a wand, it doesn’t mean we have more authority over those who don’t yet, or never will, every person should be treated with equal power, magical or not.
A wand is and should be to all people a special thing to be given respect, kept clean, used responsibly and as it accepts us on our first encounter and .allows us to use it to perform our wishes. I would treat it almost as if a friend and I would of course be devastated if I lost, or broke my wand. It bestows upon me responsibility, a means of furthering my education and a way for me to come out of my shell at school and show my potential.
