When did you start reading HP books? Get into the fandom?

When did you first read Harry Potter? For me, it was back in 1998, not long after PS came out. The local radio station had a slot on their breakfast show where they read a page of a book every morning, and they were doing PS back then. My mum thought it sounded good, and so ordered it for me.

From that moment on, I loved the books. I got CoS not long after, and the rest, as they say, is history. I remember getting PoA when it was released, then saving it for my summer holiday, then reading it during the car journey :lol:

I've had each book as soon as it came out since then, going to buy OotP and HBP at midnight on the day it was released.

And what about the HP online fandom? When did you find it? I found it just after I'd read GoF. I was searching the internet for sites about this great book I'd read, and then I found a link to the Harry Potter section on fanfiction.net...from there I found the now defunct gryffindortower.net, read a lot of great H/G fanfiction. I can't believe I've been in the HP fandom for almost 6 years now...

For me it was so long ago, but I think that it was near the beginning when the books first came out. It seems that harry potter has been around forever though

When CoS was out. I didn't like the cover of PS so i started reading CoS cos my mum had brought a few copies as presents and kept one for me.

I didn't understand the second one so i read the fist one then the second again and you know the rest...here i am!

Lol seriously? That's what happened to me. I got CoS as a present off my auntie, read it, was vair vair confused, but curiosity got the better of me, and I bought the rest up to GoF (all in paperback) I think it may have been the year, or year after, GoF was released. And so I waited patiently for OoTP and HBP Well, maybe not so patiently...

The fandom started in the summer of 2005, after I got back from holiday. Holidays were so boring, so I picked up all the books again and read them... I think it did start off with HPFF, actually. That one stayed with me... I read for about 3 months before finally deciding to write...

And well, here I am! :D

well *clears throat* the story is...years ago in 7th grade my english teacher assigned us the first Harry Potter book to read. And my friend and I thought the cover was really weird and we didnt want to waste our money...so we shared a book....years later I'm on here everyday..lol and we BOTH have each book hardcover..lol all thanks to my english teacher Mr. Tiller...sigh that wonderful man..lol

well, actually I started reading it when the 5th book came out (i know, i know... :oops: ) but I already knew the whole story when I started reading the 1st book, because Nessa (who's been a HP fan since the beggining of times... actually no, she just started reading it when the 1st book came out, but it would be hard to read it AFTER....) liked it so much she used to tell me all about it when we were bored. So, I only started reading it when the 5th book came out, but then I already KNEW everything that was going to happen.... lol

I started reading back in 1998. I got the first book from this girl on my bus who said her mom bought it for her but she didn't like it (gasp!). So I read it like everyday for a month, over and over again until my mom took it away because she said little girls aren't supposed to be cooped up in their rooms reading. They should be playing outside. So I didn't get to read another HP book until like 2002/2003. I read Book 2 then Book 4 then Book 3. Then I bought all of them and read them all the time. =D

I started writing fanfiction in 2003, I think. I didn't post my story on a site though at first. Then I wrote another one and posted it. =]

i read the books half a year before GOF first came out... i think... yeah! GOF. in german though... then i bought OOTP in english because it was out earlier

i started being aware of fandom, fanfic, etc... about hm... in june of 2005. and started taking part in it in August 18th or so when i signed up at hpff ^^

Well I never like hp..It was just some stupid movie to me back when the first movie came out, teh second one too. The third I though was ok. But when HBP came out my grandmother bought it and I though 'why let 30 dollars go to waste' and started reading it. By the 3rd chapter I was hooked, although I didnt understand it all since I never read teh otehr books..I understood enough to love it. I read it in a week...which was AMAZING FOR ME!! before HBP..I NEVER Read!! ever.. Anyway...so then I went to the library and got OoTP...read that in like...3 weeks..I got busy lol. And then I wanted to read GoF before the movie came out..so I read that. Now I just finished PS...and I'm in teh middle of CoS...then onto PoA...then I am re reading the last three..so its in order lol. I know confusing.


About two weeks after reading HBP I found fanfics..then rps...all for hp. I loved them, especially teh rps...then I started getting into writing the fanfics. Then I joined sites like this...and here I am totally Harry Potter ubsessed....amazing summer I had lol!!!!

i didnt start reading until my aunt brought me the first 4 books in a box set for christmas. Once i started, though, i was hooked. I really love the hearry potter world!

]Well, My dad and I were looking through some of my mom's old stuff up in the attic and I came across two of the HP books. One was OotP and the other was POA, i snuck them to my room becuz my dad said that books would infect my brain and i should'nt bother with such nonsense. (like i listen to him!)

So i read OotP and had no clue what was going on.. I was a bit lost, but it was fantastic just the same that I read it all in three days!! then i started on PoA which took me one week. then i snuck off to the library and got all the other ones, but me being slow and dumb as always read them out of order! lmao!! then i re read them all in order, so I could understand it better.

I got into it when The first harry potter movie(SS or PS) came out and I didnt read the first book, I skipped it and went straight to the second, because I didnt think it would be good because I had already scene the first movie... well when I bought the books I bought the first three in a scholastic pack and then I was at the hawaii air port and I saw the 4th book and I had that thirteen hour plane ride and the whole time I read that book and I finished it! hah and then when I got home I got the first book out and read it! haha
well then The day after the fifth book came out my mom suprised me and bought it for me!Well I abbsolutly despise re-reading books..... but before the 6th book came out I reread the fifth book and got hooked on the mugglenet.com site and I went and looked at facts and everything I was starting to obbsess so then you know I did the whole midnight party and got the sixth book once I finished reading it I came on to mugglenet and found this link to fanfiction and so then I clicked on one of the honoured ones and it was *gasp* a snramione and I know I should have backed off right there and never have read again but I saw one for Harry/hermione and read it.... then I was a *gasp* CANNON SHIPPER yes I jessica riddle was a cannon shipper! So anyways... then I found HPFF and thought it was more of a mature site and barley ever came to it and spent more time at fanfiction world.net and then my fav author was like HPFF is the bomb its not mature at all so I went and got hooked and barley ever do I go to mugglenet or fanfiction so anyways thats how I got here............

I remember when HP first came out. I HATED it.

My friends would play it all the time. I would just sit on the steps and glare at them.
I thought the Hogwarts thing was some stupid frog school and that it was all just junk kid-does-magic-defeats-bad-guy-takes-over-the-world-yeah-we-aren't-dead books

Then, the movie came out. I wanted to see it, so I read to book.

Well for me heh guess it started when like I got Chamber of Secrets from a garage sale. See I was supposed to do a book report on a book and this lady had a sale in her yard and she had this like old wood chair there. So mom dragged me over to look at the ladies chair. And I was bored and going through a box that she marked books were like 25 cents each. So I found a few star wars books in it but then saw CoS laying across from it. So I thought it looked cool with the bright red bird on it. I remember opening it and reading about a petrified cat and blood on the wall. Duuude I thought it was kinda interesting and a suspense book so I bought it along with the two star wars books of course. I got home and well didn't really read it right away. I read the Empire strikes back and Return of the Jedi first cuz star wars was my passion at the time. Well so anyway, I think it was a week later or somethin that I finally picked it up to read it. I remember I had a book report to do and figured to do it on the book. Hahaha As soon as I read about a house elf causing trouble for Harry I was hooked. Man I was laughing but I was also confused cuz I hadn't read about the Sorceror's stone and so some of it was confusing. Okay so I got to the part with Draco telling everyone that Harry was passing out signed photos then lockheart coming in and saying that he was not as famouse as him then the whole Lockheart attitude cracked me up. The dude was hilariously arrogant. Ok ok so then I was really interested to read more about Lockheart and Malfoy. Duuude I remember finishing the book and then sitting there going "whoa, awesome" So I started my hp fan thing from that moment on. Hahaha I still laugh about that. Anyway that is my shortened version of my story.

wel my dad had alway brought me the books but i neva read them i watched the first two movies and loved them my dad thought i ad read the harry potter ooks and took me to buy the 5th book i was neva a big reader but i decided that i was going to read the book it took me a while and i didnt get most of it but i was proud of myself wen i finished it.i then desided to read the other books (my dad had got all of them for me) I then read all the books and the 5th one i read the quit fast then as i understud the story.Now i am nown in my class for being obssed with harry potter.

i only started to read last summer after the 6th book came out and yes happy to say i am on my second time round with like a few brakes before that. i was annoced to sites by my freind amber when she moved into my city and i thank the lord for her.

my sister was being tutored the year HP first came out, and her tutor gave her the first book. i remember, i thought it was okay, not amazing.... but i was younger.... so i really got hooked, i remember, on the fourth book, it was awesome.

i got into the fandom last year. my friend, who just happens to be pillowloverchick's sister, showed me some stories her friend had sent her, and i thought they were really funny. when i was searching online for the stories she had showed me, i found hpff . com and i got an authorname.......

Well I just got into HP this summer when the sixth book came out. I remember walking past this drift shop to buy a physcology book for a project and i was walking down the aisle when HP 6 caught my eye. it was on sal for like 10 bucks so i brought without even looking at any of the other five books.

when i got home to see if i could start reading it i was literay confused. half of the stuff i didnt even get like who was Fluffy...and what was the sorcer stone and what were the unforgivable curses...and what were the purpose of DE's...but im figured it out with the help of researching and going back to buy each book at a time. so...yup! lol. long story..i kno.!

um...a long time ago. I have a habit of going through the book club catalogues that come in the mail to see which new books look interesting...when I read the summary for HP, I thought, "perfect, my kind of book" because it sounded like sci-fi/fantasy, which is my favorite genre. So I got a copy, and it was even better than I imagined.

So I checked up if the author had written any more books, and found out she had...and I was hooked. :D

Wow. For me it was recently. Sadly. i never read it when it had just come out. I started to but for some reason i stopped. Dumb i know! Well 2 years ago all my friends were talking about book 5 so i decided to buy it and educate mself. I read it and immediately became a huge fan! One thing lead to another. I read all of them and like all mi friends anticipated the arrival of the sixth. in the meantime I had a thirst for more hp which lead me to an hp an fic site. Eventually i found elfie there and became a member of her site. So now here i am trying to post my way to a second year at least. lol. I love all of the books but my favourites are 3 and 5. I love Sirius and i broke my heart t read that he died! I know i know its not real but for sum reason or the other i take these things very seriously. lol

I read PS/SS as soon as it came out in swedish (de vises sten, in swe) and then i read all of the books until GoF. After that, it took more time to get the books translated into swedish, so I kind of forgot it until my parents bought me OotP. I read that one, and then i forgot about HP again. In june this year, I accidentally saw something about HBP in the newspaper, where it also said about fan fiction. I had heard about FF before, but I hadn't bothered to look it up. I asked my dad to buy the book for me and while I waited a few days for him to come home (yes. He doesn't live with me and my little brother and my mother. He comes home in the weekends), I googled 'harry potter fanfiction'. Guess what I got? Well, the site that must not be named, also known as TSTMNBN, which is much shorter and easier to remember. Ha, ha.

I just read a few fan fictions (they were ginny/draco!!) but then I saw dramione. It had me hooked from the beginning. I still love some of the first dramione stories I read

Anyways, I got HBP, which was the first book I read in english and not swedish and by the start of school I was still stuck in fanfiction. I thought it'd pass, but it just wouldn't. And look at me now, I'm a harry potter supergeek 2k! It's scary.

Well, I still read the books in swedish (everytime i'm ill i do, have always done, to make the time pass) but the library has all of them in english so I plan on reading them in english. One day, I swear i will...

well...i got into the movies first,then a week before HBP came out, i read OotP then i read HBP and worked back. I became REALLY obssed, cuz i always was, but REALLY REALLY obsses in Octobe 2005....i started reading on HPFF.

hmmmm...to tell you the truth I absolutely hated Harry Potter! My best friend Kelly was obsessed in it and begged me with 10 bucks to go watch GOF with her when it came out. So, of course I went! what idiot wouldnt go for 10 bucks? and i saw it and loved it!

i rented all the DVD's and the books and just finished it all!!!! hahahaha!!!

Well amy (ducktheduck) my sister got the 1st book when I was...I don't know the exact age...but young. I think then my dad bought the cd audio so I listened to that every day before I went to sleep, that's when I first got into it. I remember Amy reading it to me, especially the fourth book. I read that when I was 10 I think. Then the others followed afterwards.

well, actually, i was never really interested in harry potter. I heard of it from my friends, but it didnt spark my interest. I had this 4 page book report due in three days ( i always save my projects for the last mintue, i swear lts like a curse!) but, um, yea, neways!! i was searching thru my cousin's books because i kno she loves 2 read. and i was just randomly chucking books out of the book onto her bed when Prisoner of Azkban looked preety kewl. (i mean Prisonor?? whos not going 2 get interested?) so, uh, yea and i piced up and started to read tha first page. i read the page about him blowing up his aunt and some guy named Sirius Black who was after him and i was instantly hooked! i read the whole thing in like a 4 hours! since then i was insanley hooked on it, i still am. so there ya go!!!

weeeellll, i was at the skatepark practicing some of my moves, im still learning! my brother got me into it, but yea um...i saw this really cute guy hanging out by himself and he was reading! reading at a skatepark?!?!!?! i mean come one! so i thought i'd go up and introduce myself, maybe he was new, or sumthing because i never seen him around.

and well, i lost my balance as i was riding towards him and fell onto the ground, which made me break my arm. It stunk and hurt like nothing else! but he was so nice and rushed over to him to help calm me down and stuff. when i was in the hospital he came by with two books and a balloon, the books were HP 1 and 2!!! DUH! and i started reading them, got hooked and well....now here i am!!

oh n by the way me n that guys Eric are best friends. lolz he had a girlfriend!

Well, I never liked Harry Potter. When I was ten I heard about it and tried to read the first book, but i guess since i was so little i kinda had an attention span of like 2 seconds and it did not spark my interest, but when i got older like twelve or something i started into it and there ya go!!!

i first got into harry potter when i was about 7 years old....i had just finished CoS. i remember i was very very boastful when i got a phone call from my father who was in england and had just bought be GoF. it wasnt out in australia yet (grr...) and i went around saying that i was the first kid in australia who had the new hp book. heh.

also when i was 8 me and my best friend nat had related EVERYTHING at our school to harry potter. we felt a rumble in the ground once and had a theory that the hogwarts express may have been passing through. *note - i live in AUSTRALIA*

finally in high school i meet people who are obsessed with hp (although not as much as me lol)and in all of our classes we address the teachers as "professor". and p.e as "quidditch training". people give us weird looks, tell us to get a life etc. EVERYONE NEEDS A HOBBY! LOL

suprisingly, i am not embarrassed by any of this. although i do blush like a beetroot when anyone else brings it up. oh well. i discovered the wonderful world of fandom only last year, i am still discovering new and wonderful things.

It's a funny story actually (at least, I think it is).

My group of friends in middle school were almost all obsessed with Harry Potter. When we had class together in eighth grade (GoF had just been released the summer before), they wouldn't stop talking about it. And on top of that, two of my aunts really liked the books as well. I see both of those aunts at Thanksgiving, and they have this ability to convince me to read books that they really like. So, the way I saw it, I was stuck. I'd end up having to at least read the first book at some point of time anyway. So I decided to give it a chance. I checked the first book out of our school library.

I was hooked after that. I started reading the books in about late September/early October. I finished reading the fourth book (the last book that had been released at that time) at my aunt's house over Thanksgiving. It all went down hill after that, really. I became more obsessed than my friends, and to date I've gotten at least three people into the books as well (maybe more, I can't honestly remember).

When I was about 9 or 10 my mother got me the second book for Christmas. I HATED it. I depised Dobby and thought he was stupid and annoying. I then was a skeptic. I thought Harry Potter was just some dumb popular book that everybody liked and I grew proud of myself for liking other books but not having to like Harry Potter. But suddenly I was reintroduced. I believe someone showe dme fanfiction and I loved that and a bit later my grandmother gave me the 1st book and thats when I fell in love. I grabbed the second book and read that then got all the others and loved them forever.

I find it remarkably funny that I started reading fanfiction before I ever read Harry Potter... I surprise myself. But anyway the point is I changed and found out how awesome the stories were.

My mom brought home the first book one day, I'm not sure how long after it first came, out, and I started reading it and I remember thinking that the first chapter was REALLY REALLY dull! But I got into the book and started liking it. And then she brought me the second and well pretty soon I was waaay into it!

I got into the fandom sometime early this year actually, I never actually came online for Harry Potter...Now of course it's all I come online for!

I started reading the books after movie two *hears gasps* yes i know. Here is my sad story. See i was forbidden to have anything to do with Harry Potter, by my grandma and mom. I just ignored it really, then i was at my friend Felica's house and they had bought the brand new second movie. She asked me to watch it with them. So i ran all the way home (lmao actually it was right across the street) and asked my mom if i could watch the movie. She didn't argee at first, so i told Felica who then brought Ethan, Billy, Mandy with her and she and I went to talk to my mom. She argeed relectentley. I started to watch it but i was a bit lost, but that didn't matter I loved it. Half way through my mom called me home and I found her watching Harry Potter. I then proceded to watch the first movie, and about a week later my mom came home with the first four books in a box set. My mom started on book 1 imdeatly, and i skipped book 2 and went starait to book 3 (which is my favorite book). Then 4 then finally went back to books one and two. I then got book 5 for Christmas in '03 and last year i got book 6 the day it came out.

As for my addiction, it didn't start until '04. It all started with quizilla, i read quite a few you/Draco fics. Then one of my favorite writers, who writes Malfoy and the Mudblood, said she was moving to HPFF. I then proceded to fall in love with HPFF. I stayied there loyally and joined here in March. However i never was really active here until June. Now i come on everyday and talk to yall :D

Hey Amber I was reading yours and I didnt know it was yu, and I was about to yell and say "OMG I was introduced by Malfoy and the Mudblood too!!!" But wait nevermind, its Amber and she was the one that showe dme it in the first place. lol And then Malfoy and the Mudblood was moved to HPFF and thats where the real fanfiction began. *dances*

I was never really into the fandom before. I saw Movie one, it was okay, but I was only 11 when it came out so I was not interseted and then Movie two came out, and i still wasn't obsessed. But a couple of weeks later in school, i had a book report due in two days and i hadn't done a thing. So i went to my friend Audrey's house and she lent me the first book on her shelf. I just started reading it and when i was done in toiced it was Harry Potter. After that I immediatly asked her for books 1 through 5 and read them all in one month. Book numero 4 is my favorite.

For my addiction i started writing fanfcition in '04 and started to join some sites and look up on info until i was seriously obessed. Al my friends wish that i never ever heard of Harry potter! lol and my friend Audrey blames herself for my obsession with it! lol =)

Exact same thing...haha and well, my cousin blames herself for my obsession now. She used to be into HP and I wasnt..until she showed me a Dramione site. and I was like, "wow, those two look really cute together!!" She told me how he was evil and she was good and then got into the whole story of HP.

She started showing me some sites and fanfiction...and then lent me the books. This was a little before GOF came out in theatres. Then she sotra came out of her obsession just as I got into it. haha. But, I'm able to drag her into once and a while..shes still loves HP, but shes not obsessed like I am.

And I've only written one fanfic...its really nice, my cousin loved it...im not sure where to post it tho..

I started reading right back at the beginning. The first book was lying around at my cousins house and i picked it up out of curiosity and that was it! I was addicted

Until I was 11 I never even knew what harry potter was. I'd never picked up a book or seen a movie and didn't plan too. We had these stupid reading groups at school which we were placed in and my groups book was harry potter and the philosophers stone. From the first page I was hooked and went out and bought all five books that weekend and had a reading frenzy. Sadly my obession hasn't rubbed off on any of my friends which is dissapointing but thats why I joined this site so I could to talk to people who woudln't look at me like an idiot every time I metioned something to do with harry potter

Well, I just got into Harry Potter in 2004. I was never really into it, but i heard of it from my sisters. So, I was home alone and of course, i switched to the Disney Channel to see what they were giving adn it was Harry Potter (the 1st one) so i sat back and watched it.
