DRAMA : Class 2 : Prop Bag

Choose one of the play synopses below, and then
look at the list of props. Assign a use to each prop that fits with the
synopsis you have chosen. Be as creative as possible - don't stick to
conventional means for the props!

Synopses:

1. A girl and a boy skip school to go shoplifting.

2. A young woman is proposed to by her partner.

3. A child's first birthday party.

4. Christmas Day at the grandparents house.

5. School sports day.

6. A day out at the fair for all the family.

7. Two girls go on a shopping trip.

8. A group of friends spend a day on the beach.

9. A man and a woman go on a romantic date to a restaurant.

10. A woman's first day at her new job in an office.

The kids got caught by the girl's grandma who chases them with a walking stick

2. A young woman is proposed to by her partner.
to make proposal more romantic so he lights a torch

3. A child's first birthday party.
the child is afraid to eat a cream rose on cake

4. Christmas Day at the grandparents house.
grandma gives pink bunny lace hat to a sixteen year old

5. School sports day.
one team breaks a mirror and gets bad luck

6. A day out at the fair for all the family.
there is an auction for a book covered with gold

7. Two girls go on a shopping trip.
they break a chair but have no money to pay for it

8. A group of friends spend a day on the beach.
A quilt is found on the sand

9. A man and a woman go on a romantic date to a restaurant.
man wears sunglasses to hide bruise

10. A woman's first day at her new job in an office.
A large square of white fabric hanging to say 'I surrender'

Act 3 -
setting: Bob, Sam, and Jake who are all on the silver team are huddling around during the 10 minute break
Bob- *mimics Sam from earlier* Oh stop being so superstitious
Sam- *glares* just because we lost the relay and the high jump doesn't mean it's related to me breaking the mirror!
Jake normally I'll agree with you put we lost because 1. Bob 'happened' get chases by a dog that came out of no where and 2. the high jump stick broke right when you *points to Sam* jumps over?
Bob it's just freaky!
Sam *annoyed* Look, just stop being so pessimistic!
Bob *sarcastically* Jeez, then I'll just no worry when I run the mile and if the track caves in I'll just giggle
Sam *glares at Bob now angry* Only losers believe in superstitions
Jake *pushes them apart* okay, stop it you guys. Bob, just go run as best as you can and if anything weird happens then we'll just talk about it again

Synopses:

1. A girl and a boy skip school to go shoplifting.

Sunglasses to hide thier identity

2. A young woman is proposed to by her partner.

A chair that the girl trips over as she tries to run away.

3. A child's first birthday party.

Wears a party hat

4. Christmas Day at the grandparents house.

Grandparents didnt get the present they wanted so they hit everyone with thier walking sticks

5. School sports day.

A quilt for me so I can watch everyone else hurt themselves while they are playing sports

6. A day out at the fair for all the family.

A mirror, something the father didnt use as he was backing out and hit someone behind him

7. Two girls go on a shopping trip.

A large square of white fabric so that they can place thier things on it and drag it through out the store.

8. A group of friends spend a day on the beach.

A book because they all hate the beach and prefer to read about it

9. A man and a woman go on a romantic date to a restaurant.

The man give the women a rose

10. A woman's first day at her new job in an office

Becomes crazy and lights the building on fire with a torch

Ah...the way I read this thing, I thought we were meant to choose just ONE of the synopses...therefore that is what I have done.

Extra Credit is intertwined between my prop explanations. The Extra Credit is either in dialogue form or between parentheses. Ahem. I believe the Extra Credit is also slightly above the limit...but forgive me please, as I cut more than 400 words.

*A hat--Josh is wearing a baseball HAT when the scene opens
*A book--Lisa is holding a BOOK in her arms as they are still in school at this point, standing at their lockers

Josh: Whaddaya say we split?
Lisa: Split?
Josh: Yeah, ya know...let's get out of here.
Lisa: Um...I dunno...

*A mirror--Lisa inspects her face in the MIRROR on the inside of her locker
*Sunglasses--After a moment's deliberation, Lisa grabs a pair of SUNGLASSES from her locker, and once more glances briefly in the MIRROR. She then chooses a second one, and slams her locker shut.

Lisa: Okay!
Josh, smiling: Just follow me.

*A chair--As they sneak out of school through the back door, Lisa nearly trips over a CHAIR in the cafeteria

Lisa, rubbing her foot: Where are we going?
Josh: You'll see, you'll see.
Lisa: You have no clue where we're going, do you?
Josh, indignantly: Um...sure I do!

*A rose--As they pass a bush sticking through a fence, Josh breaks off a ROSE and hands it to Lisa

Lisa, blushing slightly: What--what was that?
Josh: It's a rose!
Lisa: I know, but...nevermind.

*A walking stick--They pass a small tree branch lying on the ground. Josh picks it up, breaks off a few smaller branches sticking out at the sides, and promptly has himself a WALKING STICK.

Lisa: Wow, impressive!
Josh, smirking slightly: It's just a stick...

(They turn into a more commercial avenue and Josh throws the STICK to the side.)

Josh, pointing at a large department store: Want to go in here?
Lisa: Why? You want to buy something?

(She follows him inside.)

*A torch-- Josh grabs a TORCH from a large display and tries turning it on, but of course there are no batteries in it. He keeps it in his grasp, swinging it lightly from one hand to another.

(They proceed to the clothing floor.)

*A large square of white fabric--One mannequin is draped in a big piece of WHITE FABRIC. The FABRIC trails along the floor, and Josh creeps underneath it and hides.

Lisa: Josh? Josh, where are you?

Lisa, biting her lip: Josh, this ISN'T FUNNY!

...

Lisa: Okay, man I swear I'm leaving.

(She turns to go and Josh sneaks back out.)

*A quilt--He grabs a nearby QUILT and throws it over her head.
*A torch, again--Lisa grabs the TORCH from Josh's hand and attempts to whack him in the head with it

(They're both grinning as Josh grabs her hand and drags her off to the food department. Josh grabs a can of soda for each of them. They stand in line to pay, drinking their sodas.)

Lisa: D'you have any money?
Josh, patting pockets: Sure I--um.
Lisa, frowning: Well do you or don't you?
Josh: Ahem...I guess not.

(They both stare at their half-drunk bottles of soda. Josh winks confidently at Lisa, and casually walks to the front door. Lisa's heart is hammering, sure they'll be asked for a receipt, but the security guard doesn't even glance their way. Laughing and high on adrenaline, they sprint down the avenue.)

I chose synopsis 10 (a woman's first day at her new job in an office) and interpreted it the same as Streams did ^^

PROPS

-A rose
-A book

and you'll see how they're used in the- EXTRA CREDIT!!!

CAST
Maggie- the young (and gullible) new employee
Jodie and Ryan- two other employees
Mrs. Davidson- employer

(ok, I'm a little over but I took out as much as I could!)

All are standing inside Maggie's cubicle. Maggie pauses in wrapping the fabric around her.

Maggie: So this is uniform?

Jodie: ‘course Maggie, we're helping.

Ryan nods, takes a rose and tucks it into her hair. Jodie has gotten the fabric tied like a toga. He grabs a book and puts it into Maggie's arms. They push her out into the corridor. Maggie topples into Mrs. Davidson, whose coffee spills onto her suit. The others compose their expressions before helping mop it up.

Mrs. D: What is going on?

Maggie: I- I-

Maggie looks to them for help. They don’t respond. Taking in the girl's appearance-
Mrs. D: My office, you two. Now.

Grinning, Ryan and Jodie head offstage. Maggie unwraps the fabric and uses it to blot out some more of the coffee.

Mrs. D: Don't worry about them, Miss...?

Maggie: Margaret Watson- it's my first day.

Mrs. D: So I figured. They trick as many new employees as they can. If they weren't so good at actual work they'd be long gone.

She shrugs and heads offstage. Maggie takes the rose out and looks at the book.

Maggie: Webster's Dictionary?

She opens it, and on the inside cover there is a post-it-note.

Maggie: "Welcome to Jostens, newb. Tricked? If you want to survive here, you'd better not let that happen that again. Good luck."

She laughs and heads inside where she sits on the chair and takes a spin.

1.a young couple skip school to go shoplifting while they where out they saw the young man's mother to quick hide there identies they quick grabed a book each and swiftly tried to keep there faces covered hopeing they would not be found out

2.a young weamon practcing in front of the mirror as she tried to plot out what she would say to try to proposed to by her partner but she does not notice he is standing right behind her out of sight from the mirror

3.a child haveing his first birthday party at the age of 5 not knowing what to excpect when he opeaned his first gift from his grandfather his mother almost fainted to see a torch

4.on cristmas over at his grandfathers house he found great humor in his grandfather wearing sunglasses for the first time as he stated "do i look cool now?"

5.on a school sports day the children where playing football when suddenly one child was thrusted into a chair breaking the chair and sending him to the emergancy room

6.the family had a day out at the fair when the young boy took the quilt his mother had just bought and gave it to a stray dog when his mother wasnt looking

7.two girls going shopeing when a A large square of white fabric falls over them causing them to walk into a display knocking over 22 boxes and a shelf

8.A group of friends spending a day on the beach where atempting to come up with varis acts useing nothing but themselfs and a
walking stick

9.a man and a weamon go on a romantic date when a janitor ruined there perfect night while chaseing the mans date out of the resteraunt while at the resteraunt the man went to the bathroom which he sought revenge so he took the rose he was going to give his date and glauged a toilt with it feeling satisfied the man walked out

10. A woman's first day at her new job in an office an a atempt to feel like sherlock homes she puts on her hat and says to the man beside her she said theres a mystery to be sloved here shortly after freaking the man out she was fired

I understand the same as Streams and like her my prob explantions are in the extra-credit. Also it's above the word count limit but it was too much fun!

Christmas Day at the Grandparents’ House

(The light’s turned on showing a young boy in front of a mirror, above a piece of furniture which was supporting a vessel with roses. The boy had a wizard’s hat and a large square of white fabric around the wrist a. Looking in the mirror the boy says)

- Is there anyone more perfect than me? Not even this rose can surpass my outstanding beauty. Darn now what, this fabric is my decoy to not have to take part in those stupis Christmas games.

(While the boy talks he touched one rose and cuts himself in a thorn staining the fabric with blood. Suddenly another light is turned on and we can see an old lady holding a quilt and leaning herself on a walking stick)

- Niltsiar my dear grandson. Oh lord you’ve cut yourself. And what’s that in your wrist. Now take the hat and go put your quilt on.

- Grandma you touch the hat you’ll get hurt! I’m not putting any quilt cuz I cannot play any game this years I’ve hurt my wrist. Where’s grandpa?

- In the living room.

(The light on grandma goes off and a new on goes on showing now an old man sitting on a chair, holding a book, wearing sunglasses and reading at torchlight)

- Grandpa, I can’t believe you still wear sunglasses inside the house it’s madness. And the torchlight? Is that really necessary? What are you reading? Another of your mad authors with crazy theories?

- My poor child. You have still not gained any bit of imagination, already you are an old mean with no fantasies. If you could pass all the first impressions and see beyond the glasses and the torch to imagine a different place you’d be so much happier.

- I’ll never understand you grandpa but I love you.

(All the lights go out)
