The truth about Dumbledore, at last...

"Oh, my God," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."

Potter readers on fan sites and elsewhere on the internet have speculated on the sexuality of Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past. And explicit scenes with Dumbledore have already appeared in fan fiction.

Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.

Rowling, finishing a brief Open Book Tour of the US, her first tour there since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority".

Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, probably referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promoted witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, would give them one more reason.

I totally gasped when I heard that. I was like NO Way! I totally had no idea. I laughed out loud thogh. Literally. I couldn't beleive it..

lol I wasn't really shocked either, and gays are cool anyway - but, as I've already said in the GHCR ... I don't like this news because it makes it so much easier for us to forgive Dumbly for his "tiny mistake" of letting another million or so people get killed by Grindelwald until he finally decided to fight him. And then, of course, it's all... "perfect Dumbledore" again. Meh. >.<"

... and love isn't a thing you can control => maybe she's trying to show his fault in the fact that he waited 5 years to kill the most evil wizard in history until then was actually minor to non-existent. Or at least that's how I get it.

But I'm also trying to see Kitty's and June's point from the GHCR talk on our first impressions about this, namely that this new fact adds depth to his character. Well, to an extent, yes, because the suffering he had to endure certainly wasn't easy and it helped him develop, gain more experience and wisdom and grow out of his controlling-the-muggles-for-their-own-good ideas.

Another thing I'm curious about is the reaction the media is going to have to this statement because the message is ... well, at least for ultra-conservatives, quite provocative...

lol did I say I hate him? XD .. NAHHHH! ... he was always more or less my fave HP character - but I still don't want to see him as a morally perfect person, I want him to be realistic... not black or white, but grey

lol XD Okay I suspected it since book 7, but I was all... "I can't say that people think of Dumbledore like Jesus or something," I told my mom what I thought and she shrugged and told me I was reading too much into it XD

And then she saw the article and told me that if she heard a word of gloating then she would take my 7th book away XD rofl, good thing I already finished it XD

I didn't like learning about Dumbledore's childhood! It really bothered me becasue i loved dumbledore and his youngselfinsults his od self!

It does bother me because he is one of my fav characters

This guy in America somewhere got a Dumbledore tattoo on his back as a comemoration after the 6th book came out that says "ALBUS DUMBLEDORE, THE GREATEST SORCEROR IN THE WORLD" under it...and now this is out in the open, he has probably just realised that its a bit strange to have a gay wizard tattooed on your back....

But I knew there was something behind Dumbledores flamboyant Clothes....

Making him gay after the books was pointless; I can tell the real reason she did it was for publicity.

She never made him gay after the books. She probley already had him gay. And what publicity, she was already famous

When a writer is creating their books, they have a lot in their minds that doesnt come outright to readers. I see Elfie do it all the time with her writing. JK most probably had it in her mind from the start and I must admit I have read many theories on this subject before the end came into play

Yea I kinda thought of this myself and one day my friend joked saying that he was gay. I just told him it could be. He could be gay. Do you have a problem with that? Of course I live in a very anti-gay community so of course he did. and that lead into a discussion. Anywhoo I think it's great that he's gay. It also explains a lot, especially with Grindlewald.

I confess I never thought about it. 'Cause of his age. Everyone older than fifty is celibate or asexual.

But the scarf of sexual orientation knew better! =D
