ust a question: if this is supposed to be a hogwarts school, why does everyone has so strange names with numbers and taht stuff? i think you cannot really feel at schoole when the pupils don't have ordinary names...

Some people might want to be called the name they have chosen. As we are not allowed to give out our full names, we'd have to come up with new names. Some people aren't as imaginative as others, and they like their name, and some just can't be bothered. I can't be.
Most people here already know each others first names, and that's enough for them user names... 436937

If you want to know somebodys first name, just ask. I'm sure they won't mind telling you.

Cill explained it very well. The majority of boards like this leaves it up to the indervidual to whether they choose their real name or a username, it is all about protecting identities as we have a whole range of ages on here. Surnames are not permitted to be said, yet as Cill said, most people get to know each others name.

I myself do not like my real name of Sharon, and I write fiction under the name of elfbwillow so it was natural to me to use elfie and dumbledore as the head of the school.

Don't feel that this is unpersonal because as I hope you will find, many people have met here and become very good friends.
