| PART 1:
- Who invented clerihews? (2pts)
Edmund Clerihew Bentley, while he was a student
- What do they do? (2pts)
Shows the subject in an unusual point of view, with garbled and over simplified explanation.
- how long is a clerihew? (2pts)
Four lines. The first is usually the subjects name, and the last two are typically longer than the first two.
- what is it's rhyming structure? (2pts)
AABB, that is, the first two lines rhyme with eachother, and the second two lines rhyme with each other.
PART 2:
Write 2 cleriews! - one about an HP character - one about anyone else (20pts)
Nymphadora Tonks Injured herself in a mess of whacks and bonks. While tripping and falling, all in good fun We must wonder...will this trait be passed on to her young, infant son?
Bella Swan Lost herself while Edward was gone. As soon as she got out of her bed Her only comfort was a voice in her head
PART 3:
How would you explain to someone how to write a clerihew? Explain each step and how to write each line. (12pts)
The first line is typically the subject's name.
Sirius Black
The next line is usually short, and always rhymes with the first.
Through his family tree out of whack.
The third line will be longer than the first two.
This would cause his mother to have all kinds of fits
The fourth line is about as long as the third, and rhymes with the third as well.
Luckily, shutting the curtain on her provided a quick fix.
And in the end we have:
Sirius Black Through his family tree out of whack. This would cause his mother to have all kinds of fits. Luckily, shutting the curtain on her provided a quick fix.

| PART 1:
- Who invented clerihews? (2pts)
A man by the name of Edmund Clerihew Bentley
- What do they do? (2pts)
It is a very specific kind of short biographical humorous verse.
- how long is a clerihew? (2pts)
It has four lines of irregular length (for comic effect); the third and fourth lines are usually longer than the first two
- what is it's rhyming structure? (2pts)
AABB where the first two lines rhyme and the third and forth line rhymes
PART 2:
Write 2 cleriews! - one about an HP character - one about anyone else (20pts)
Dobby the house-elf Was quiet content to be himself He wore many socks, he wore many hats and his ears, well lets just say were just like a bats!
Vanessa Carlton-Singer She was quiet the winger A piano she has she plays it well and her songs are great and swell
PART 3:
How would you explain to someone how to write a clerihew? Explain each step and how to write each line. (12pts)
Clerihews have just a few simple rules:
-They are four lines long. -The first and second lines rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other. -A clerihew should be funny.
The first line states the subject
Our art Teacher Mr. Shaw
The second line is the same lenght as the first and rhymes with it
Really knows how to draw
The third line should say some thin about that person or thing
But his awful paintings
the Fourth line will be the same lenght as the thrid line and rhymes with it
Have caused many faintings.
So you end up with
Our art teacher, Mr. Shaw, Really knows how to draw. But his awful paintings Have caused many faintings.

| Part one*The clerihew was invented Edmund Clerihew Bentley. *They are intended to describe or talk about a person in a comical way. *A clerihew is a 4-line poem. *Its rhyming scheme is aabb--first two lines rhyme and second two lines rhyme. Part two2 poems A girl in my year, Lavender Brown. Frequently makes all of us frown. She was always a bit of a ditz, But when Ron dated her she lost her wits. My mother's name is Richelle. Her story is funny to tell. She was always scared of bees and ants, And whenever one came near her, she did a little dance. Part ThreeA clerihew is one of the simplest poems one can write. There is no need to worry about rhythm or counting syllables or words. It is a four line poem that is intended to describe a person in a comical manner. Start with the first line. At the end of this line you will introduce the name of the subject. I once knew a boy named Jim.Then you'll proceed to the second line. This should rhyme with the first line. Everyone really seemed to like himThe next two lines rhyme with each other and typically would include the punchline, if you will. The end result would be something like this: I once knew a boy named Jim. Everyone seemed to really like him. He was really good at playing ball, But he just couldn't do math at all.:edit: It just occured to me that I forgot to include my sources (thankfully I know where I got my info.) source: http://www.gigglepoetry.com/poetryclass/clerihew.htm

Jasper Hale Is absolutely the cutest male A girl could ever ever get her hands on Even though her almost killed Bella Swan
PART 3:
How would you explain to someone how to write a clerihew? Explain each step and how to write each line. (12pts)
I would tell them to just think of somebody. For example, if Snape came to your mind, you would probably think about his greasy black hair, or maybe that he is the potions master, or possibly even that he was a death eater. After you ponder for a second, try to think of words that rhyme. Another example, black rhymes with a few things, like snack, back, sack, lack. Also, you could try something like this.
Severus Snape Wore a long, black cape
Now all that is let is the last two lines. Easy, huh? | |
