| 10 points to BookMasterJMV for the suggestion
Throughout mythology, there are stories of the "gods" transforming themselves into animals/trees/creatures to woo a lady, win a city, etc.
So were these people of myth actually gods? Or simply wizards and witches using simple transfiguration spells. This class is worth 100 house points.
Part 1: Choose an ancient myth and give a short description of the supernatural occurances that could be considered magical. 150 words.
Part 2: Using examples from the HP books and such...convince me that god's are really just witches/wizards. 150 words.
Part 3: Create your own ancient god...describe their powers and what they are famous for, and if they are related to any of the HP characters we know. 200 words.

| Throughout mythology, there are stories of the "gods" transforming themselves into animals/trees/creatures to woo a lady, win a city, etc.
So were these people of myth actually gods? Or simply wizards and witches using simple transfiguration spells. This class is worth 100 house points.
The myth I’ve chosen is The ‘Gods’ of Mt. Olympus.
Part 1: Choose an ancient myth and give a short description of the supernatural occurrences that could be considered magical. 150 words.
There were many ancient Greek gods, but majority of them lived on Mt Olympus. All of these gods had a special power. But these gods were not in fact gods after all. It was a village of wizards and witches who chose to live on Mt Olympus because as muggles could not reach this spot they were unlikely to be disturbed or discovered. There were fourteen Olympian witches and wizards, they were: Aphrodite- Goddess of Beauty Apollo- God of the Sun and Music Ares- God of War Artemis- God of the Hunt Athena- Goddess of Wisdom, Battle and the Arts Demeter- God of the Harvest Dionysus- God of the Wine Hades- God of the Underworld Hephaestus- God of Metallurgy Hera- Goddess of Family Hermes- God of Trade Hestia- Goddess of Heath Poseidon- God of the Sea Zeus- Ruler of the Gods. Also God of the Weather
Part 2: Using examples from the HP books and such...convince me that god's are really just witches/wizards. 150 words.
The Olympian wizards and witches were frequently caught doing magic and so they claimed to ‘Gods’ as this was before the Stature of Secrecy was introduced. Most of their special abilities were no more than simple charms. For example, Hestia, Goddess of health, was very sympathetic towards muggles so whenever a muggle that had pleased her fell ill, she would heal them with simple healing charms. Episkey was one of her favourites as if a broken leg was suddenly healed, the ‘god’ who healed you was extra popular that week. Zeus who was ‘god’ of the weather used simple weather charms to control the weather. Dionysus, god of wine was well known for changing water into wine. He used a tricky charm becomes easy once you get the hang of it. Aphrodite’s ‘beauty’ was also not what it seemed. She used human transfiguration on herself to perfect her features and if people were still not impressed she used small doses of love potions.
Part 3: Create your own ancient god...describe their powers and what they are famous for, and if they are related to any of the HP characters we know. 200 words.
Another ancient ‘god’ is Delphiodus, an ugly witch who transfigured muggles into animals for enjoyment. Some muggles were lucky enough to be transfigured into cows or horses but the muggles who commented about her looks were turned into cockroaches or dung beetles. Delphiodus was not very gifted with transfiguration so most of the muggles she transfigured were mutant animal. This is why she was so ugly. She tried to transfigure her own face so she would be beautiful and would capture the heart of the muggle prince but it went horribly wrong and she ended up worse than what started like. She vented her frustration on the unfortunate muggles who crossed her path ever since that day. She is most famous for being one of the oldest muggle-haters, thus encouraging the idea muggles are not as good as wizards and witches. She was one of the first to be so open about her loathing of muggles, so open in fact, that members of the Wizards Council ( the Wizards Council preceded the Ministry of Magic ) were sent to restrain her. Delphiodus was beyond reason and a duel began, The members of the Council successfully detained her but not before she turned more than half of them into pigs. [/b]

| PART 1 In all (most) ancient cultures there are a variety of gods and goddesses that have special or magical powers. In all egypt there are gods for war, peace, prosperity as well as for death, after life, and child birth. Romans and Greeks shared similar gods and godesses. Zeus and Jupiter were the "head gods", Neptune and Posidon were the gods of water, and Pluto and Hades were the gods of the under world. And by being gods they would have to have special or magical powers. Zeus supposedly had thunder bolts that he would use and the ability to change his shape. More than once he used his powers to approach women-once as a bird during a storm. Posidon could control the water and had an underwater palace that he lived in with his many wives that he also approached the same way as zeus. PART 2 Since most of the gods or goddesses could transform that would make them witches or wizards. Throughout the HP stories you have animagous; witches or wizards who could transform into animals. Sirius Black (dog), Peter Pettigrew(rat), James Potter(stag), Rita Skeeter(bug), and Prof. McGonagall (cat) are just to name a few. Since these wizards and witches can or could transform into animals that gives them the same abilities of Zeus and Posidon though they might not use them for the same reasons. PART 3 My goddess is Stellar. Stellar is the goddess of the moon and the stars. She is responsible for each phase the moon has to pass into and the appearance of the stars at night. It is said that was a star falls it dies only to be replaced with a new star that is one of her tears frozen and cast into the sky. She is also known as an owl often a snowy owl whose white plumage and nobleness is known through all the world. The ancient celts often felt that her presence was made through the snowy owls and that all owls are her children. When one died a multiple stars are said to have been seen falling from the sky. She is not directly related to a character we know but her powers are similar to those we've heard of. | |

| MYTH OF ALL MYTHS, OR TRUTH OF ALL LEGENDS, THE MINATOR AND ITS MAZE
Part 1 There is an age old legend that is set way back in ancient Rome, in an underground maze that is said to be the home of a fearsome beast, the Minitor. It is said to be guarding a treasure that would make even the poorest of men dance for joy, but alas, all that go into the maze is search for it never return. Even up to this day people, muggle and wizard alike, some with luck and bravery potions in massive amounts taken before they enter, others with only a simple rope to guide their path, go into the maze to look for this bountyful treasure, but still none come back, and legend has it, when they come face to face with the minitor (half human half bull) they are shocked to death, and the Minitor is left to feast on there very flesh. Terrifying Legend, I say.
Part 2 The Minitor Legend may be just a stupid rumor that this Minitor beast lives in a maze in ancient Rome, or is it a magical being. As look at all the amazing animals we have in Animagi now adays, there is some evidence to suggest that there is an Animagus, who went wrong in transforming, and now he/she is half a bull and half a human and this change has allowed them to live for centuries. We read in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban that Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) needed all the help from James and Sirius he could get in order to become an Animagus, so what would have happened if that went wrong? Yes, it could have, but it did not, for Peters friends helped the back-stabber become something which would later help him escape from many painful and worrying situations. This maybe is evidence of the Minitor.
Part 3 The ancient god I am now going to talk about is know as the Orchestral Phoenix, the god of music. It has tail feathers that are actually made of the softest pure gold, and the rest of its body has white gold feathers. These beautiful birds are often refaired to as the god of music, as its lullaby-like song has been know to bring the listener into a powerful enchanted sleep, filled with magnificantly beautiful dreams so enchanting that you won't want to wake up. But alas, not many of these birds still exist, as they are so pure, they will not want to fight back against dark wizards, and are therefore easily hunted for there feathers. These birds are responsible for the so called "cookoo spit" found in muggle or wizarding gardens throughout Europe, but what the muggles don't know this is the thick, almost crystal like tear that will cure any injury, and is in fact a rarity that healers now adays charish far beyond any other wizarding antidote, and it also an ingredient in "Mary Diggles Dreamy Milk Chocolate bar: will fulfill your wildest dreams." Quite literally I must say! This is a truely amazing bird!
