5..Shausto peeked out from behind the curtain at the huge crowd that had gathered in the tent. The sun filtered through the red stripes, casting a crimson glow on the eager faces turned to the center of the ring. Behind her, one of the numerous clowns saw her hesitation and gave her a little push into the open ring. She stumbled out, giving him a nasty glare as her foot caught a rock and sent her sprawling across the ground. Some first impression. The crowd laughed, but quickly quieted seeing her vicious glower aimed at a few select faces. Shausto turned on the spot and walked briskly to a tall ladder that stood on one side of the large tent, feeling her long hair drift in the slight breeze. The ladder seemed to be taller as she looked up at it, but she swallowed hard and concentrated on placing her feet firmly on the ladder rungs until, at last she arrived on a small wooden platform overlooking a net stretched tight. The throng of people looked on as she picked up a long wooden pole and balanced it with her body, placing her right foot out on a taut rope stretched between the two sides of the striped walls. Slowly, slowly, her feet moved of their own accord one in front of the other as her hands and upper body adjusted to the swaying of the rope. Her audience gasped at each minute slipping of a foot, and she rolled her eyes wondering why they perceived this as so dangerous. That was not good. The eye roll disrupted her balance and when she looked down, the rope was no longer beneath her. Closing her eyes and throwing the pole away from her, Shausto felt her feet leave the rope as her body fell down, away from the task she was being paid to complete. The soft impact of hitting the rope safety net jolted her eyes open and she jumped up before it hit ground. In a crack in the curtains, she saw movement and smiled widely at the clown who had pushed her out earlier and was now doubled up in laughter. She leaned back on the netting, feeling it give slightly, letting the soft red light chase away her disappointment.

Dressed in her elaborate purple, black and white animal trainer costume, Elana pulled up her gloves, grabbed her baton and a large stool, and stepped out into the brightly lit caged ring. The announcer called her name and then mentioning something about how what was done in the circus should never be tried at home, and she bowed low, rising to the cheers of the audience. She set down the stool in the center of the ring and sat down on it, crossing her legs. The spotlight then shifted from her to the back of the ring, where the door which she had come in through opened again, revealing Nyah the jaguar. Nyah growled as she entered and, as if taken by suprise, Elana jumped up from her seat. The jaguar began to pace around the ring, and she made sure to keep directly across from her. Nyah kept up her low growling which was good - it kept the audience's attention, and an engaged audience is a happy audience, and a happy audience comes back, bringing more money for her paycheck.

"All right, Nay Nay," Elana whispered, changing her direction so that she was coming closer and closer to the jaguar's front end. "Just like we practiced."

She stomped her foot and flourished her baton. The jaguar backed and her growls grew louder. Elana kept waving her baton at her until Nyah was headed towards the stool. Once she could go back no further, she sprung up onto the stool. "Good girl," Elana praised quietly, moving to one side so that the audience could have a clearer view of what was going on. "Up you go," she said, raising her baton. Nyah rose until she was at eye level with Elana, sitting on her hind legs...

Rigby peeked out from behind thick red curtains. The sheer size of the crowd was overwhelming, but soon she would be walking on a thin wire high above their heads. Anxiously she adjusted her sparkly leotard, with its bright silver skirt, making sure that it was perfectly placed. She couldn't afford to make any last minute adjustments whilst balancing from incredible heights. This time there would be no safety net.

With a roar, the crowd welcomed Rigby as she and the rest of her high wire troupe's names were called. She ran out onto center ring, a bright smile masking her raw fear. Up and up she climbed, until finally reaching a platform over one hundred feet above the sawdust ground. Her high wire troupe only had a few precious minutes to dazzle and amaze before the clowns made a reappearance.

Her teammate patter her on the back, her signal to begin her walk on the wire. Rigby grabbed her prop- a brightly colored lavender parasol, and began her dangerous dance on the wire. The crowd oohed and ahhed as she made her way across from one platform to the next. She made it look almost easy, as if she were gliding along the high wire that most of them could barely see. It looked like magic, and every time she managed not to fall, Rigby would think it felt like magic too.

A quarter way across she opened her parasol, flirting with the crowd as she daintily walked the wire. Her teammate, Hans, began to walk toward her from the opposite end. They met in the middle and began a passionate and breathtaking flirtation. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as Rigby and her suitor danced a high wire tango. Nearing the end of the performance, Rigby rejected her would be Romeo. Hans dropped to the his hands and feet on the wire. Rigby held her breath and then leaped over him. The crowd gasped! But she used her momentum to land perfectly on the wire, and then she haughtily snapped her parasol closed and reached the far platform. The crowd went wild with cheers, as Rigby sank to the floor of the platform with shaky legs.

Hearing the crowd roar behind her, Herby glanced around and made sure everyone was in position. Her hands were powdered and feet for added support. Quietly she climbed the ladder, well the next act came to a finished.

Upon entering the top, Herby whispered to her partner. "Good luck". With that a flash of light enter on the arena, with Herby 20 feet off the ground. Bowing gratuitously Herby took her position. Grabbing the bar, Herby released and flew though the air. On the second run she flipped her legs though the bar and hung upside down.

As if like clock work, Eric released himself and grabbed her hands. Both were flying on one bar, with no safety net. You could hear the crowd roaring with "Ohhs" and "Awes". A few more moves, Herby finished and landed safely on the platform. The audience claps and stands well Herby and her teammates bow gratefully.

As the acrobats are announced by the ringmaster, I wave at my partner who's on the opposite platform of me. He's dressed in tight black pants with no shirt while I'm in my purple sequined acrobatic outfit. He waves back and signals that he's ready when I am. Nodding back to him we both approach the edges of our platform. Looking down at the long drop below us where the net is in place in case we fall, I remind myself that we've practiced that often and he's never dropped me...yet.

As we're perched at the top of the platform the music starts and we both leap for the acrobatic bars a few feet away from us. As we pot grab on, I pull myself on top and do a handstand split from the top, trying my hardest not to wobble.

Out of the corner of my eye I can see my partner beginning to get into position for our next move as he hangs himself upside by his legs with his arms outstretched. From my handstand I swing myself around the bar before launching myself gracefully into the air, arms outstretch.

I hear gasps from the crowd as my partner grabs my outstretched arms. My heart skips a beat in that momentary time when all that's stopping me from falling is his strength to swing me to the bar. But the moment barley lasts before he swings me and I get the momentum to fly over to the next bar. From our new bars, we both flip back onto the platforms (now on opposite sides) to the applause of the crowd as the next pair of acrobats go to take their turn.

The horses whinny as my team and I all wait behind the curtain for the ring master to announce us. On his signal, we ride our horses quickly and proudly around the big tent once so the audience can see the horse's beauty. As we near the second lap, I slip my feet out of the stirrups and prepare to do my tricks.

Rounding the next corner, I quickly hop up, and stand up on the saddle without holding on to anything. I can hear the thrilled gasps of the crowd as I smile and ready myself for the next trick. Leaning down and grabbing the pommel, I swing myself to one side of the horse and hold myself out in the air next to him. Muscles straining, I quickly throw myself back into the saddle and take a few deep breaths before the next lap.

Standing up once again in the saddle, I lean over and place my hands on the saddle, just in front of my feet. Bending down, I bring my legs up into a hand stand. Clearing my head of all distraction, all I can hear is my horse's hoof beats. I count to fifteen, and slowly bring myself back down again.

As I took a step further into the darkness between spotlights, I could feel my hear start to beat a bit faster. My lips curled up into a soft smile, at the silliness of my own nerves. This being my first performance, it was a bit more understandable. The ringmaster's voice boomed throughout the tent, introducing the best and highest flying acrobats of the century. My smile grew even wider as I realized he was trying to boost my confidence. I took hold of the course wooden bar, my hands fitting awkwardly in the grooves that years of performances had etched into the ancient wood. I looked up from the ground to find Jace's eyes locked on me. He flashed a smile and nodded his head. My heart started to pound faster than I thought possible. I could feel the heat of the spotlights raining down upon my skin, but I couldn't concentrate. Closing my eyes, and stepped of the platform. My bangs whipped against my forehead as the speed I'd created forced wind upon me. "4..." I whispered to myself, as I opened my eyes. "3..." I began to loosen my grip on the bar. "2..." I let go and felt myself rushing through the empty air. "1.." Jace's hand were around mine and I was safe.
