Muggle Jobs: Doctors

There are many jobs that muggles have that are not found or variations of jobs in the wizarding world. Through the series 'Muggle Professions' we'll be looking at some of these muggle jobs and learning more about them to better understand muggle society.


Part 1:
1) What is the primary job of a muggle doctor? (2)
2) Where do doctors usually work? (2)
3) Muggle doctors have to go to a special school, what is this school and how long do they have to go? (4)
4) What are some subjects muggle doctors must study in the aforementioned school? (2)
5) Muggles seem fascinated by doctors, name three muggle television shows where doctors are the main characters. (6)
6) What are the purpose of muggle 'stitches'? (2)
7) What are the special clothes muggle doctors have to wear? (2)

Part 2:
There are different types of muggle doctors. Pick one specification of doctor and in a short essay give the following information:
1) An overview of what the specification means for the work the doctor does. Example: what kind of work does a 'cardio surgeon' do?
2) The typical career path of the doctor. Do they have to start lower down to work their way up with a given amount of work experience?
3) How many hours a week does this doctor work?
4) What does the pay scale look like for the doctor in a given state or country of your choice?

Part 3
Muggle doctors are a lot like healers in the wizarding world. In fact, they are the muggle world equivalent to healers.

In a short essay like response, compare and contrast the two with the following questions in mind: What challenges do you think doctors face that healers don't? Do you think it would be more difficult to be a healer or a doctor? Are there any famous doctors who you think would make good healers?
