| Prophecies are simply a prediction of the future. They are generally made by 'seer's who had knowledge and insight. Prophecies do not have to be followed or forfilled, but in most recorded cases, they are (mostly because you dont generally record cases where the phropicy isnt forfilled). A phofecy basically tells you what the outcome of certain actions are. If you choose to follow through with these actions, you with get the said result and if you dont then you wont. If I was under a prophency and wanted the end result I would forfill it. If I didnt want that result then I would do my best not to. | |

| I have my only little theory with prohecies.
For the longest time I have regarded prophecies as always true, no matter what Dumbledore says. I think that they do tell what is going to happen, regardless if they are filled or not. For example, in the Disney Channel show, "That's So Raven," the girl (Raven) can see into the future and she always tries to stop her predictions from coming true. However, by reacting to them they come true anyway. I think that the prophecy just knows whats going to happen and even if you don't know about it it will happen, and if you do know about it and try to stop it, it will happen.
*i hope that made sense.*

| I dont think there is any way to escape a prophecy, what is set to happen will happen. You can not mess with fate. However, I do see one way around a prophecy, adn its really quite horrible. Death. if you die before the prophecy is fufilled, then it simply wont happen. | |

| A prophecy I believe is just something that could happen. It doesnt mean that it has to happen or that its going to happen, it's just a prediction. Prediction can come true and other times they dont. One can do something to alter the future and if you manage to change the future than that prophecy wont happen and because of this I think that it would be possible to get around it. If I knew that tehre was a prophecy about me I dont think that I would care too much. I probably wouldnt even bother to find out what it was. If something is going to happen to me during my life then Ill just let it happen. As for Harry and what he did wrong I dont think that he did anything wrong. If Voldemort didn't come back and then was killed by Harry then he probably could have came back after Harry had died himself and continued once agian to try to basically rule the world | |

| Prophecies are flash-forwards into the future that tell you something. The person that holds the prophecies is the only one who can try to stop it. I think maybe prophecies and and deja vou are very different... with a prophecy you can try ot change it but with deja vou you can its always going to happen.. I think what im trying to say is that if the prophecy belongs to you it can be stopped! | |

| hopefully you will accept this because i did work really hard at it.
Okay so I know this topic is closed but it is still open kinda sort of so I would like to take a crack at it. Prophecies have been introduced in not only the Harry Potter series but also in many classic novels. First let’s declare what a prophecy is exactly according to Wikipedia a prophecy is basically a prediction that is not known to the prophet by any other means. This could be through a revelation or interpretation. These two examples are evident in the Harry Potter novels in the precinct of the divination classes, i.e. tea leaves, crystal balls, etc. And of course the revelation Prof. Trelawney predicted in the 3rd book, and the one that took place in the presence of Dumbledore. So how does having this inescapable force hanging over your head affect the protagonist? They try to run away and do the exact opposite thing thinking that it will lead them away from their impending doom of course. Before we go into Harry’s situation let’s take another famous character who was also under the thumb of a prophecy. In Oedipus the King, a Greek drama by Sophocles, after the king and queen of Thebes hear the prophecy of their son(kill his father, marry is mother), they send him off to be kill, only to be saved and raised by the king of queen of a neighboring reign. When Oedipus learns of the prophecy he runs away not knowing that they aren’t his biological parents. Along the way he meets up with his father, kills him, gets rid of a Sphinx, crowned the new king of Thebes because he killed the old one, and marries the queen his mother. Okay so now that the story is out of the way, let’s get into the prophecy part. This is the classic example of fate. We know how the whole story will play out and by running away from it, fate like an Olympian running will only gain speed to catch up and knock you right off your feet. So now on the prophecy that is woven throughout the Harry Potter novel, when Voldemort is presented with news of his appending downfall , his plan is like most classic characters, and to nip it before it can begin to start. By doing this Voldemort is introduced to his downfall, and would keep meeting up with it before the entirety of the prophecy could play out. Each part of it is a checklist, only stopping when the list is finished. So the question isn’t did Harry handle the truth of the prophecy correctly but did Voldemort handle it in the right matter. By not listening to it in its entirety did it affect his own future in a whole different way? Maybe I have more question than answers but I hope this has raised new opinions in the matter of prophecies.
