| THE BELL WITCH COTTAGE AND CAVE I know you said chose one house or building, but the cave is a big factor in the story. The story of the bell witch haunting is decades old. The story goes that the Bell family, who lived near Tennessee in a little cottage far away from civilisation, were terrorized by a ghost. The hauntings became more severe as time went on. An account of a particularly nasty one which happened one night in mid-winter was recorded a number of years later by the Bells son. He said that he witnessed chairs flying across the room, mad cackling laughter coming out of no-where and even his teenage sister Betsy jerking from side to side as though being slapped, and it also used to pull her hair, and John reveals that his sister was the most picked on by the ghost. That is most probably where the tale that teenagers are more prone to experiencing ghostly goings on than adults are. After that night the Bell family were left traumatized. There were several small hauntings in the cottage after that, all leading up to John Bells sudden, premature death a while later. He is said to have been poisoned. At John Bells funeral, Betsy Bell was said to have been able to hear the ghosts mad cackling, drowning out the words of the priest, though no one else could hear anything but the priest speaking. It seemed the Bells had their own personal poltergeist. The family took action after this. They conducted a séance, which is a ceremony like Ouija board that is used to gain contact with spirits. The Bell witch told them her name was Kate Batt, and that she lived in a cave about a mile away. After this, she said she'd leave, but warned she would return in seven years, which she did, to John Bell Jr (Son of the Bells), and told him of the termoil she had put the family through. The cave was searched, and there was no sign of any Bell Witch. But, near the Bell Witch cave as it’s know as now, there was, and still is a graveyard. And in that graveyard there is a gravestone that says the name ‘Kate Batt’ on it. Years later, people who had heard this legend went in search for the grave to uncover evidence to suggest that the story is true. They found Kate Batts grave and began to dig it up the grave, and you’ll never guess what they found. They found Kate Batts bones, all perfectly preserved, and they found that the skeleton was laid out in a skull and cross-bones shape. Was that a sign that the Bell Witch was really a restless spirit. Some people try to say that the story isn’t true, and that Betsy Bell made the whole thing up for attention, but then how do we explain John Bells death and the results of the séance. Personally, I believe that the Bells were truly haunted by a restless spirit. This is the Bell Witch Cottage, where the hauntings are said to have taken place. Sign telling part of the Bell Witch story in Tennessee. The Bell Witch Cave | |

| THE WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE
Once there was a women by the name of Sarah Pardee and she married a man by the name of William Wirt Winchester. Will had a family business that was handed down to him from his father Oliver. Their business was called Winchester Repeating Arms Company and they sold the repeating rifle. The family had made much money off of these guns when the war broke out making them very wealthy.
Soon Sarah and Will had their first child but something horrible had happened when the child was young. The child had caught the illness marasmus which was a children’s disease that causes the infected child’s body to slowly wither away to nothing. When the baby dies Sarah had became distraught and wasn’t herself for a few years. She had started to withdraw to herself and almost had became mad but she soon snapped out of it after about ten years of acting not like herself. After this she and Will were to never have another child.
Once she had came back to reality, she then went back to house leaving after her child had died and found that her husband had became gravely ill too. It had received the disease pulmonary tuberculosis. Once her husband had died she had inherited a lot of money from his company that he had inherited from his father. Sarah had then become once again saddened by her husband death and also mourned not only for him but also her child whom she still missed. One of Sarah’s friends then told her that she should go and see a medium and that she did.
The medium had contacted her husband and was able to tell Sarah what he looked like so that she believed that she was contacting him. The medium told Sarah that her family was cursed. This was why her husband and her child had died as they did. She said that it was the spirits of the men who had lost their lives to the guns that were manufactured from Will’s company who had cursed her and that she too would soon die because of it. The medium told her that if she wanted to leave she had to leave the house that she was living in now and go build another one somewhere else for the spirit. She said that Will’s spirit would guide her and help her pick the right place to build their house. Sarah did as the medium said and let her house.
She bought another house and here she had started to build her house. The house that she was built was built in a strange way. It was sort of like a maze which she had it built in this way in case there were evil spirits to come and she hoped that they would get lost and then give up trying to find her in the house.
But some years later after her building of the house, there was an earthquake and part of the house had to be rebuilt. This they did but many years later they found Sarah dead. She had died in her sleep, peacefully. Many say that the spirits that were killed by the gun is still there and that Sarah’s is also there too and they still haunt the house even to this day.
