| BATTLE FIVE: ASOUE vs. Pirates Welcome to the fifth Fandom Battle of Fandom Month. This is the thread for the ASOUE vs. Pirates debate. Which fantasy tale is the best? Is it the mystery of Lemony Snicket's world or the swashbuckling adventures of Jack and crew? Come up with arguments and points about why one is better than the other, remembering to back your arguments up with quotes, references, pictures etc. However - remember to always be polite and considerate of others views! This isn't a place to bash one or the other, but to have a proper debate. Only post in this thread if you have been assigned to one of the groups below. You may notice that some people have been assigned to more than one battle - however, they will still only end up with one score as it will be averaged. Remember to state which side you are arguing for at the top of each post. Good Luck! | I for one will have to say that ASOUE is the better one. There is three kids who lose thier parents but then have to go through this jury trying to stay away from Count Olaf as they try to find thier parents, if they were still alive. Also during the whole story telling Lemmony Snitchet keeps the story entertaining even when there something horrible happening. Also during the story the three childern stick by each other and help each other out by using thier special talents that they each have. Because they stick together they are able to get out of many sticky situatiions. | |

| (ASOUE) I put my belief down that this story is better by the complexity of it. Also, the series is very educational is the development of vocabulary while still keeping the story light with good humor, specifically from the author, to the point of thinking it's absolutely crazy but understanding the full intention. | |

| (Friends)
Friends the television show ran for 10 seasons, won numerous awards, and caused countless laughter. A Series Of Unfortunate Events movie, however, failed to live up to its literary hype and caused more tears than laughter. Although I am a fan of th ASOUE books, there's somethng morbid in finding entertainment in the suffering of three orphans.
Phoebe, Joey, Ross, Rachel, Monica and Chandler are more than just characters in a tv show. In each thirty minute show they became my friends, and yours. Remember when Ross and Rachel FINALLY kissed? Or when Phoebe sang Smelly Cat for the first time? Remember the 80's flashbacks, and the naked guy? These are events we have all been a part of.
Friends is the epitome of great television. It spawned the most famous hair cut of the 90's - the Rachel. I don't know about you but everytime I throw my hair into a ponytail it's not because I was in any way inspired by Violet Baudelaire. Friends sparked debate between men and women during the infamous Ross and Rachel "We were on a break!" fight.
Here's a few of the show's qoutes that even those unfamiliar with Friends can appreciate:
- Quote :
- Phoebe: [Right after playing a song in the coffee shop ] If you want to receive e-mails about my upcoming shows, then please give me money so I can buy a computer
Chandler: All right, look if you absolutely have to tell her the truth, at least wait until the timing's right. And that's what deathbeds are for.
[In response to a stupid comment] Chandler: You have to stop the Q-Tip when there's resistance.
Rachel: Hey, just so you know: it's *not* that common, it *doesn't* "happen to every guy, " and it *is* a big deal! Chandler: [pointing] I *knew* it!
Joey: I hate Pottery barn too! They kicked me out of there just because I sat on a bed. Chandler: You took off your pants and cimbed under the sheets!
Ross: I figured after work, I'd pick up a bottle of wine, go over there, and try to... woo her. Chandler: Hey, you know what you should do? Take her back to the 1800's when that phrase was last used.
Monica: Rach, it's the Visa card people. Rachel: Oh, God, ask them what they want. Monica: [on the phone] Could you please tell me what this is in reference to? Yes, hold on. [to Rachel] Monica: Um, they say there's been some unusual activity on your account. Rachel: But I haven't used my card in weeks. Monica: That is the unusual activity.
Monica: Oh my god. How cute is the new eye doctor? Rachel: So cute I'm thinking about jamming this pen in my eye.
Monica: Whoa. Where you going in those pants? 1982?
Joey: Why do you have to break up with her? Be a man. Just stop calling.
Ross: First divorce: wife's hidden sexuality, not my fault. Second divorce: said the wrong name at the altar, kind of my fault. Third divorce: they shouldn't let you get married when you're that drunk and have stuff drawn all over your face, Nevada's fault.
Chandler: I got her machine. Joey: Her answering machine? Chandler: No. Interestingly enough, her leaf blower picked up.
Monica: You know Phoebe, a heart attack is nature's way of telling you to slow down. Chandler: I thought a heart attack was nature's way of telling you to die. | |
