Picture of the Day #2

Below there are 10 photos. You will need to use your knowledge, research or imagination to describe each photo as if you had taken it and are presenting it to a class!

Each picture is worth 10 points and requires a mininum of 50 words but the more effort shown in your descriptions (and accuracy) more points you'll get.

1. Ah, here's the first picture I ever took of Mars, the mysterious red planet. Earlier I had washed my space ship, but I had failed to properly dry the windows. So this is a view of Mars through a water bubble. I may not be the best spaceship housekeeper, but I rather like the effect of the picture.

2. You know how on every spaceships panel there's a button that you're not supposed to press? Well this picture captures what happens when you, or in this case me, press the button. The button released some rockets that zeroed in on the star, causing in to explode in a red haze. much more beautiful than any fireworks display I have ever seen, but yet another accident turned good photo-op. I seem to have a lot of those...

3. Here's a picture I took of Saturn and its many moons. The big huge one that's almost eclipsing the planet is called Titan. I'm not the world's most professional picture taker, but this shot was so beautiful that even an untrained eye like mine could see the perfect composition. I always thought Saturn was a beautiful planet, but this is as close as I ever got to it, as it's astroid belt is not so easy on spaceships exteriors.

4. This picture gives a whole new meaning to the term "Green Planet". Actually this was taking deep in the SPinnICH galaxy, near the Lett-a-ucee spaceway. The planets there are remarkable. They actually eat stars! I snapped this shot of the planet BrocLLEe eating a medium sized wandering star. It was a bit like watching lions stalk their prey. We got out of there pretty soon after snapping this picture, before finding out if the glowing green planet liked the taste of spaceships.

5. While cruising the galaxy in search of short cuts, the crew and I occasionally stumble upon worm holes such as the one in this picture. Sometimes a worm hole can take you to an undesirable location, but this one took us the gray beaches of Xanadu, which as you know has superior surfing conditions. I always take a picture of any worm hole we take, so I can document our adventures, and because sometimes worm holes can be deadly. I've just been lucky so far.

6. Electrical storms in space make the Northern Lights look like child's play. I took this one while eating on the patio of the Restaurant At The Far Side of the Planet 9. Of course electrical storms in space can create the spontaneous creation of black holes, this one was just a lovely display of lights and colors. As usual, the prettier something looks in space, the deadlier it usually turns out to be.

7. Sometimes space travel is not as fun or exciting as it may seem. When the crew and I get bored we like to create constellations by using dry erase markers on the starboard windows. This was a particularly boring Sunday (yes, Sunday's in space suck as bad as Sunday's on Earth!), and we were having a grand constellation show down. This is my winning picture of a stork made of stars named Lucy.

8. Okay, this is just me showing off to my family back home, plus I was trying to learn how to use my time delay on my new camera. My family always thinks space travel involves lots of space walks and time floating amongst the stars. They don't want to see the inside of my cabin, which is where most of my time in space is truly spent. I was only out long enough to get the shot, as gravity suits aren't exactly slimming. You can't even tell I'm a girl!

9. I took this picture from Earth 2 while awaiting our turn on the launch pad. It was a really long wait, and we were getting restless, so we broke out the grill and I had been taking pictures of the zero gravity soccer game that had just started when I realized that Fawkes 1 was taking off. My ship, Starstutter, is a great spaceship, but the Fawkes is the newest in design and this was its first official launch. History in the making!

10. Occasionally we get hitchhikers on our ship, and our policy is to keep them in the air lock until we get them identified. If they turn out to be fairly harmless we let them aboard to mingle. If they prove to be harmful we jettison them into space, and as in this case, we can't identify the hitchhiker we keep it in the airlock until we pass a planet we think is friendly, and then release them. We never found out this creature's identity, it was a weird white Gumby like creature, very bendable. If anyone knows what type of species this is, please let me know!!
