| 1. Ah, here's the first picture I ever took of Mars, the mysterious red planet. Earlier I had washed my space ship, but I had failed to properly dry the windows. So this is a view of Mars through a water bubble. I may not be the best spaceship housekeeper, but I rather like the effect of the picture.
2. You know how on every spaceships panel there's a button that you're not supposed to press? Well this picture captures what happens when you, or in this case me, press the button. The button released some rockets that zeroed in on the star, causing in to explode in a red haze. much more beautiful than any fireworks display I have ever seen, but yet another accident turned good photo-op. I seem to have a lot of those...
3. Here's a picture I took of Saturn and its many moons. The big huge one that's almost eclipsing the planet is called Titan. I'm not the world's most professional picture taker, but this shot was so beautiful that even an untrained eye like mine could see the perfect composition. I always thought Saturn was a beautiful planet, but this is as close as I ever got to it, as it's astroid belt is not so easy on spaceships exteriors.
4. This picture gives a whole new meaning to the term "Green Planet". Actually this was taking deep in the SPinnICH galaxy, near the Lett-a-ucee spaceway. The planets there are remarkable. They actually eat stars! I snapped this shot of the planet BrocLLEe eating a medium sized wandering star. It was a bit like watching lions stalk their prey. We got out of there pretty soon after snapping this picture, before finding out if the glowing green planet liked the taste of spaceships.
5. While cruising the galaxy in search of short cuts, the crew and I occasionally stumble upon worm holes such as the one in this picture. Sometimes a worm hole can take you to an undesirable location, but this one took us the gray beaches of Xanadu, which as you know has superior surfing conditions. I always take a picture of any worm hole we take, so I can document our adventures, and because sometimes worm holes can be deadly. I've just been lucky so far.
6. Electrical storms in space make the Northern Lights look like child's play. I took this one while eating on the patio of the Restaurant At The Far Side of the Planet 9. Of course electrical storms in space can create the spontaneous creation of black holes, this one was just a lovely display of lights and colors. As usual, the prettier something looks in space, the deadlier it usually turns out to be.
7. Sometimes space travel is not as fun or exciting as it may seem. When the crew and I get bored we like to create constellations by using dry erase markers on the starboard windows. This was a particularly boring Sunday (yes, Sunday's in space suck as bad as Sunday's on Earth!), and we were having a grand constellation show down. This is my winning picture of a stork made of stars named Lucy.
8. Okay, this is just me showing off to my family back home, plus I was trying to learn how to use my time delay on my new camera. My family always thinks space travel involves lots of space walks and time floating amongst the stars. They don't want to see the inside of my cabin, which is where most of my time in space is truly spent. I was only out long enough to get the shot, as gravity suits aren't exactly slimming. You can't even tell I'm a girl!
9. I took this picture from Earth 2 while awaiting our turn on the launch pad. It was a really long wait, and we were getting restless, so we broke out the grill and I had been taking pictures of the zero gravity soccer game that had just started when I realized that Fawkes 1 was taking off. My ship, Starstutter, is a great spaceship, but the Fawkes is the newest in design and this was its first official launch. History in the making!
10. Occasionally we get hitchhikers on our ship, and our policy is to keep them in the air lock until we get them identified. If they turn out to be fairly harmless we let them aboard to mingle. If they prove to be harmful we jettison them into space, and as in this case, we can't identify the hitchhiker we keep it in the airlock until we pass a planet we think is friendly, and then release them. We never found out this creature's identity, it was a weird white Gumby like creature, very bendable. If anyone knows what type of species this is, please let me know!!I made the vast majority of this up, but I did research the moons of Saturn here: http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr161/lect/saturn/moons.html | |

| Dear Class, I have just come back from a quite long travel all over the Universe, taking lots of pictures. Now I have chosen the ten that I like best, and I want to present them to you along with a little information on each. I hope you will enjoy this lesson as much as I enjoyed the journey!
1. The first photo I brought for you is this little beauty. I'm not sure whether you've heard of it, but it's a quite popular star: V838 Monocerotis, which is located at the far end of our galaxy (the Milky Way, though I'm sure you know that). It was never really interesting to anybody, but then it suddenly had an outburst six years ago and started lighting up. However, even when this picture was taken by non else than me four years ago the change still hadn't become totally visible. The thing is, this dust shell around V838 Mon you can clearly see reflects light particles, and their path changes incredibly slightly, yet it means it will take them another few more years to be directly seen by us. I think I'll stop by there again in two years and see what has happened, plus it was a very nice place with good restaurants and clubs you just can't miss.
2. This fiery picture I took the one time I tried going anywhere close to the Sun. I'm still glad that I survived this part of travelling and even got some souvenirs to prove it, believe me! The shot shows the activity around sunspots. Those are spots on the surface of the sun, visible from here on Earth without any devices helping but looking black, where the temperature is relatively low and makes the spots appear dark in contrast to the even hotter surroundings. It also shows a bright shine, as you'd probably say, which is a flowing gas with a horribly high temperature, various times the temperature of sun's general surface. Can you guess I was sweating a lot in my ship? Though I simply couldn't have missed the great opportunity of taking a picture this rare and impressive, I had come quite close to giving up. Now I'm quite happy I didn't, however.
3. And here we have an old favourite of mine, Saturn. Bet you recognised him due to the awesome rings, didn't you? Well, no matter how horribly close he is to Earth and reagrdless of his plain looks, I couldn't resist taking that picture. It just seems impressive to me how that planet, second largest in our solar system, almost ten times as bis as our Earth, looked as if almost completey covered by its moon Dione, which is one twelfth the size of our own planet only. Looks good, eh? I must say, though, that with all its ice cliffs, Dione probably won't be a stop on my way in space ever again. I prefer the warm climates lots, suit me better.
4. Even if this is not the most impressive shot I brought for you look-wise, I had to take it since this is such an interesting planet. Its name is Flabbar, and it oddly reminded me of green slime. My fascination was strong enough to make me land on there so I could take a good look, something I rarely ever do when I don't know a planet. Was unpleasantly surprised that the thing actually was a green slime ball, so slimy it sucked my ship and me into itself gradually, at a pace hard to notice. By the time I figured out what was happening, I was almost in there knee-deep! Got into my ship and out of the mess quickly, thank God, but I still wonder if maybe imagination of humans on Earth might have been intrigued by that planet in one way or another. Or the other way round, who knows how that slime was created?
5. Here we've got a truely beautiful Supernova cluster. The stellar explosion must have taken place shortly before I happened to be there, since the cluster was still rather bright and hadn't faded from view yet. That's what it'd have done had the explosion been some weks or months ago, depensing on the case. Sadly, this wasn't all outshining the galaxy any more back then, but I thought it was still fairly bright and pretty. By the way, did you know that in the short time between Supernova and fading a star can produce as more energy than the sun does in over 10 billion years? I think that's quite impressing actually.
6. This here is a picture of the Cygnus Loop, a really large nebula also called the Veil Nebula. Well, actually it's more of what's left of it after a supernova explosion that took place at some point in time, between 5,000 and about 15,000 years ago as scientists estimate. Back then, a really huge star, approximately ten times the mass of our Sun, exploded towards the Cygnus constellation, the swan. Surprisingly, you can find this treasure quite nearby and therefore observe it very well. Not that I don't like long travelling, but normally these things take place somewhere you can't even find without a professional star navigation system! So when I passed by this, I couldn't help but take a picture of the beautiful colours. Doesn't that thing look cool to you?
7. While we're at it, here's a picture of the Cygnus constellation I was just talking about. True, I did a little improvement here with my on-board graphics program, but I thought you'd probably like the whole thing better if you could actually see where there is supposed to be a swan. Oh yeah, cygnus is the actual Latin words for swan, just so you know. Well, nothing much to say about this one, besides its main stars are the Albireo, a double star including both yellow and blue, at the 'head, and Deneb, the brightest star of the constellation which forms the swan's 'tail'.
8. In this picture, you can see one of the normal Muggle astronauts waving towards my ship when I flew by. I think he was there to clean some station non-magicals put up into the air to do their own exploring of the Universe, but I also believe that up there, with the Earth still visible behind him, the man was as far away from the planet as they ever get. I think I made him a tiny bit jealous, but I couldn't resist making myself well visible and waving back. Wonder what he's doing today, I sure hope they didn't lock him up somewhere to 'get better and stable'...anyway, I just wanted to illustrate the limits of Muggle means to you and remind you of how lucky you all are to be wizards.
9. To top it off, this photo shows you the rather uncomfortable means they have of making their way into space. No plushy armchairs in roomy spaceships, instead they use this rocket things, burning with fire from the back and getting nowhere far to where I have been! Could you imagine living this medieval way? If guess I'd run before I ever got to close to one of those things and be fire-shoved up to Moon. And maybe Mars, in a considerable amount of time. No thanks, let's all be happy we are magical and can travel as we place, to the places pleasing us. Yay!
10. This is a one-of-a-kind shot, honestly. Those creepy guys picked me up on my journey when I was farthest from our very own planet, I sort of had a problem with my ship and was courageous to stop their huge and noble one. So when I was invited inside, it was a surprise to see the familiar faces, even though I had never in reality come across them. What happened then? Well, some of you might now them too, if you are into Muggle video games. They are featured in one, and I had the guts to ask them why that was (after a couple of universe double shots). Obviously they had stopped by our planet once and found us civil beings - that made me shudder in contemplation of how uncivil they might be if we were civil to them - well, so they wanted to be on this planet somehow and leave something to us. Which is why they made the Muggles a video game, fittingly named after their home planet, Area 51.
