Another easy and creative class with a little bit of research needed.

Below are 10 photos. You will need to use your knowledge (or a little research) and describe each photo as if you had taken it and are presenting it to a class.

Each photo is worth 10 housepoints (resulting in a maximum of 100 housepoints for the whole class)

Ok..they weren't that good but hey i tried and it was fun..maybe i got a few right?

1) This is obviously an anstronut in space, and weither or not you know it its the first woman in space, Sally Ride who became teh first woman in space in 1983.

2) This of coarse is a shooting star going over some lovely ever green trees.

3) The famous man on the moon, Earth's moon that is. Of coarse thats just an urban legend.

4) A dying star in our universe somewhere.

5) This is Saturn the 6th planet from the sun in the Milkey Way gallexy. As you can see it has very distanctive rings surrounding it, and has an amazing 56 moons.

6) Jupiter, the 5th planet from the sun in the milkey way gallexy. It has 63 moons and is 318 times bigger then the earth.

7) the southern lights, which occur in the southern part of the earth. Also called the aurora australis.

8) That is the black hole. Thought to be the center of the unvierse, since the Miya indian calender. Appertenly all the gallexy's orbit around it.

9) The Milky Way gallexy, home to planet Earth on which we inhabit.

10) This is of coarse the famous duck constilation, which although is just legend, is thought to be inspired by Duck the Duck is legendly found next to the Elf constilation.

My brain and the stories from substitue teachers

ooh i like this class lol


1. This was my first trip out into space. As an astroaught, we have to be careful in order not to be unsafe and combust into space. This is me telling my fellow spacemen that everything is a-ok!

2. This was the first shooting star that ever crossed my path. It is said that if you wish upon a shooting star, all your dreams will come true. I am still awaiting my mr right!

3. This is a picture of the surface of the moon. Ever wondered where that man on the moon originated? Well here he is. In fact, he has been here since before the 'first man on the moon' saga - this was in fact harrold burnacre - the real man on the moon who accidently became part of the moon when the surface shifted in space.

4. This is a photo of the constellation known as blurr. In fact, between me and you, my telescope was a bit speckled that night so it could simply be patches of dirt on the lens!

5. This is a photo of saturn from a distance. We could not unfortunatly get any closer due to the gasses surrounding the planet.

6. The next planet on our trip was jupiter, I did try to get a full shot, yet our driver was coming in a bit too fast!

7. The nothern lights caught in a tornado. A pretty sight, yet we were glad to get away from the burning lights as it was tanning my skin a little too much. I wanted bronze not burnt!

8. This is part of a black hole we nearly got sucked into. If you lok you can see a smoke line going into the center of the hole...rest in pieces skeleton team A!

9. Didnt think aliens existed? Well here I give you proof. If you look carefully, you can see both the mother ship and a smaller travel ship which seems to be coming towards us...run for your lives!!

10. The newest constellation in the sky. La'Duck the Duck. Situated withing the HE belt.

8-This photo has been studied by wizards for years to no avail. Some suggest that it may be a black hole, other think it could be an in-space tornado.
9-A photo of the Milky Way galaxy. This is the galaxy that holds Earth along with many other planets and solar systems
10-Years ago our deputy head, Duck the Duck, created a constallation for herself, and behold!

1. This is one of the astronaunts from my crew of the Shuttle Craft 5-11 CXP Fourth Class Elite Division of Space Exploratory Research Division. We see my collegue proving the stability of the spacecraft that we are experimenting with.

2. This is the falling star that I was wishing on, one bright and starry night.It was a calm cool evening and I had stepped out on my balcony overlooking this beautiful forest.

3.When I looked up at the sky again, this round glowing object had come out to greet me and that is when I saw the face of the moon. They say the man on the moon watches us, yet as I saw his face; it resembled that of the man I fell for many years ago.

4.And just as quickly as the earlier phenomenoms had happened; another caught my eye. This one was speeding across the sky, with an illucent hue and I thought it could be a dying planet.

5.This is Saturn, one of the most beautiful and mysterious planets of the outer solar system.

6.This is Jupiter, the largest planet that has been found in our solar system. The dot of Jupiter is merely a large cluster of storms that constantly continue on the planet. It is made up of material that would not be able to sustain human life.

7.This is the Auror Borialis, the lights of mystery that have plagued scientists for many years of where and how they were created.

8.This is a vortex that has existed for years and has steadily been growing larger by every 2000 years. Someday, it is rumored to suck up everything in the universe.

9.The Milky way, a rather wonderious place that holds our planets and stars and extends even further than what we can see.

10. Quackly the magical duck constelation and former pet of ducktheduck who couldn't keep her pet due to its huge size so she turned it into a constelation.

1. This is the astronaut ElfieDumbledore on her recent trip to Mercury to instruct the Martians there about the goodness of Snape. Here she is seen waving at the purple hippo who is piloting the spacecraft. The name of the space craft was “HUE” or ‘Hogwarts Universal Experience’.
2. Here we see the shooting star “Haley’s Comet” flying over the Forbidden Forest on the grounds of Hogwarts. Many of the students and professors made a wish while this comet was making its journey across the early morning sky-it was 4 am when this shot was taken-I wonder how many of the wishes came true.
3. A close up taken of the moon’s surface. Here we can see some craters, and this particular photo was taken in the Sea of Tranquility, which isn’t a sea at all, surprisingly. Notice the interesting shadow cast upon the surface. The craters near the pyramid shaped protrusion are called ‘maria’s. (pronounced mah-REE-uh)
4. A photograph of a star that has just experienced a supernova. As you can clearly see, it’s mass has decreased immensely, and there are still particles left over from the star floating around. However, this supernova did not recently occur. In fact, the star in this photograph probably doesn’t even give off light anymore. When we see light coming from stars, we’re seeing something that happened perhaps millions of years ago, because it takes the light an extremely long time to get all the way to the Earth.
5. Here is a photograph of Saturn, the 6th planet from the sun, and its rings. Yes, rings. Although it may appear-due to the quality of the photo-that Saturn only has one, but Saturn in fact has hundreds of ringlets that circle around it. Another interesting fact about Saturn is that it’s the second largest planet in the solar system-after Jupiter.
6. Ah, Jupiter, the largest planet of the solar system! It is the 5th planet from the sun. You recall how I said that Jupiter was the largest planet? Well, Jupiter is more than twice as massive as all the other planets combined! In fact, Jupiter’s mass is 318 times larger than Earth’s. Talk about huge.
7. This is a solar flare taken from the surface of the sun. A solar flare is a bright explosion that is emitted from the sun’s ‘chromosphere’. A flare can last from a couple minutes to several hours. When a solar flare occurs, a burst of energy is released as well as a bright light.
8. In this photo we can see a galaxy. Did you know galaxies have shapes? Well, they do, and the shape of this one appears to be spiral. The galaxy we live, the Milky Way Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy, as is the next closest galaxy to ours-the Andromeda Galaxy. This photograph is of the Andromeda galaxy, and in the photo we can also see a bit of an asteroid from the asteroid belt that orbits the ex-planet once known as Pluto.
9. The Milky Way galaxy, one we are all familiar with-since we live in it. As I previously discussed, it is a spiral shaped galaxy. The bright light in the center of the galaxy is the sun, shining brightly as always. If you look closely, the clumps you see are planets and asteroids.
10. The newly discovered planet, the “Big Ducker”. During ElfieDumbledore’s ‘Pro-Snape’ campaign to Mercury, her deputy Headmistress, and first mate on board, Ducktheduck, discovered this constellation about 859 light years away from Earth. It was newly formed, and she snapped a photograph in it. The Big Ducker is such a new constellation, that we on Earth won’t be able to spot it for another 238 years!

Picture of the Day

Hello, fellow H.E.ers, and welcome to the H.E. space shuttle. We’ll be taking a journey through space, so feel free to snap any photos other than the sights that I shall be showing you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our auto-pilot, Captain Hippo #1, through the personal PA system on the right arm of your seat. Should you have any other complaints and/or suggestions and/or wants and/or needs, the cabin crew will be most willing to help.

1. As we cruise out into space, we see an astronaut, seemingly floating on the end of a long white stick. This is, in actual fact, exactly what that is. This astronaut has had to go through intense training in order to be fit enough to deal with the confines of a spacesuit, and being in space.

2. Whilst we journey further through the Solar System, I shall keep you informed on this slideshow of various celestial happening on Earth. This picture shows a shooting star, unsurprisingly. However, they’re not actually stars, we just call them that. Shooting stars are meteorites i.e. bits of rock from outer space (like stuff from an asteroid or maybe a comet) that gets chipped off the main block of rock, happens to be somewhere around the nether-regions of Earth, and falls to it. In fact, one of these so-called shooting stars made that crater in Arizona Desert. There aren’t that many craters on Earth though – the speed at which the rocks fall through the Earth’s atmosphere is so fast that the friction on the meteorite causes it to heat up and burn away as it falls. So you probably have bits of space rock in your back garden or something.

3. Ah, the infamous man on the Moon. It’s not really a man, of course, although if you’ve ever watched that Absorbaloff episode of Doctor Who, you’d think it looks a bit like Ursula’s face coming out of that pavement slab. Anyway, this is part of the Moon’s surface. The ‘face’ is made up of a deformed bit of surface, really, and the shadows cast by the Sunlight cause it to look like a face, hence the term ‘the man on the Moon’ was coined for this bit of deformation.

4. And as we pass the asteroid belt, guys and girls, you’ll be able to see on your left a fantastic sight. See that cloudy kind of disposition around the centre of the bright thing in the middle? It’s what I call a nebula, something that occurs at both the start-point of a star’s life and at its end-point. This one is dying – you can tell because there IS a bright thing in the centre of the nebula. When a star dies, it has no more gas to burn and release in the form of light and heat energy, so the outer layer of dust and gases around the star starts to ‘puff out’, for want of a better word. This causes the nebula, as this layer of dust and gases expands and then falls back in due to the star’s gravitational field. Eventually, the dust and gases will drift off into space, and depending on the type of star, the thing in the middle will be a neutron star, a white dwarf, or a black dwarf, i.e. a very very very small star that wouldn’t really be classified as a star.

5. Unfortunately I’ll have to show you Saturn before we get to it. This slide shows exactly that. Apologies for the absolute abomination that is this photo. I promise to you that I did not take it – my team of photographers need a day off at some point in their lives. *laughs* What we have here is Saturn. Yes, Saturn. It is the sixth planet in our Solar System, which consists of eight, formally nine, planets. Saturn is the second largest planet in the Solar System, and is one of two which has rings around its main mass. We can barely see this on the photo, as all the mass seems to mould together, but as I promised, it was not I who took it. The rings surrounding the diameter of the planet are made of planetary rocks, dust, and yep, you guessed it, gas. There’s some ice in there, but most melts when they come into sunlight – and hence the heat from the Sun’s surface.

6. *sighs in relief* It’s so much easier to explain things when you have a perfect shot of it. My good friend WL actually purchased this photo from NASA a few weeks ago, where she enjoyed watching the world’s largest rocket being assembled. She also bought a rather nice mug, which says… I’ve forgotten, but it’s on top of her avatar, something about Apollo 13, which, incidentally, I was reading about a few days ago. Anyway, back to what it is you now see out of your window. This, my dear astronomers, is Jupiter. Although if you truly are an astronomer then I doubt that you didn’t know that already. Jupiter is our Solar System’s largest planet, orbiting the Sun just outside of the asteroid belt which hovers between Mars and Jupiter. The red spot shown on this photo is actually a constant hurricane, ever-changing the surface of the planet and stuff like that. Most people know that this planet has 16 moons, but it actually has 47 more, making the total up to 63.

7. And we come back to our slideshow, to one of our planet’s most beautiful celestial events. The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Or, the Southern Lights, or Aurora Australis. Or, if you want to talk about both at the same time, the Polar Lights, or Aurora Polaris (unsurprisingly). Either way, this incredible phenomenon is described by many as the most beautiful thing to ever be seen on Earth. Aurora Polaris is a naturally occurring happening in space: the Sun, from time to time, emits solar flares, which are flung out into deep space. These travel at over a million kilometres per hour, and even then, take at least 2 days to reach our planet. When they do, they are attracted by its magnetic field, and fall towards Earth at very high speeds. The only reason we’re protected from them is because we have an atmosphere, and without this atmosphere, we wouldn’t be able to breathe, plants wouldn’t be able to live, we’d all die, and the world would be happy that we’re not contaminating it anymore. (Joking, about the last part. But yeah, we’d all explode because of the pressure hehe) Oh, of course, without the atmosphere, the Polar Lights would not happen. This is due to the high-speed collision of the solar flare and the atmosphere’s gases. The reaction between them causes a photon, or a light particle, to be produced. And we see lots and lots of pretty lights that look kind of scary. Actually, we don’t really, because mostly you see them on uncloudy nights… we don’t get those here in England. XD

OR, if we’re being pedantic:

It’s just a normal solar flare from the Sun. Even though that and the Polar Lights are technically the same thing because they come from the same thing. Anyway, solar flare. It’s a violent explosion in the Sun’s atmosphere, and the energy is… big. Anyway, plasma is heated, and the electrons and protons and neutrons are accelerated to beyond the speed of light, which is, without a doubt, verily fast. This causes much electromagnetic radiation i.e. all types on the electromagnetic spectrum. Yay for solar flares!

8. And this next slide, ladies and gents, is what people think a black hole looks like. Of course, no one’s ever seen a black hole before, since the job of such a thing is to suck everything into it. And when I say everything, I mean… EVERYTHING. Even light. Now aren’t we glad we’re not actually near one? UNLESS we were in a ship that was built like the TARDIS… hmm… I shall have to ask Elfie about that. ANYWAY, black holes are formed when stars at least ten times the size of our Sun explode in a supernova. The resulting gravity forces the star’s matter to become SO dense that everything just gets sucked in, like a vacuum. The pull of gravity is REALLY big, so everything, even light, will be attracted towards the former star. Which is now a black hole. XD

9. As we travel deeper into space, H.E.ers, this next slide shows a galaxy! No real way of telling which one it is, but there we go. That, and I personally don’t think it possible to see the whole of the Milky Way from where we are – we’re at the end of one of its spirals – how can we POSSIBLY see something that extends from where we are? At least, the whole of it. So, I’m guessing, this is the Andromeda galaxy, the next closest galaxy to us. Galaxies are huge thing – really huge. They’re composed of billions of stars, shaped like a spiral. Our Sun is at the end of one of these spirals, and we, as a Solar System, are orbiting this one medium-sized star, which is in the midst of billions of other stars (i.e. the galaxy) and the galaxy is in the midst of probably billions of other galaxies! So really, the fact that a galaxy exists puts into perspective how big the universe really is. In fact, we don’t know how big the universe is! But it’s there, and we’re in it, so we should make the most of what we have!

10. Finally, we have arrived at our most prized sighting. This, my friends, is a duck. What’s more, it is a duck made out of stars, a very rare thing to see in space. However, as it does seem to be alive and well – constellations are made of stars, and well, stars are alive, since they give off their own light and heat energy… you don’t see US giving off light energy, do you? – I shall have to make you believe that what you are seeing is true and real. Furthermore, I should assume that because it is a duck-like constellation, that it has relevance to our esteemed Deputy Headmistress, Duck the Duck, who, quite obviously, has done something so fantastic that our lovely Headmistress decided to give her an everlasting place in the H.E. universe.

1Ah yes, this is me as a powerful astronaut after saving the earth from aliens that tried to take over the galaxy! It was hard work but I was able to single handedly get rid of them.
2Well this is me in my space craft decending to earth though sadly i fell asleep at the wheel and only woke up after i hit the entering of the earth's atmosphere.
3 I decided to leave behind my face imprint on the moon so i made a mold of my face on the surface so that it would show up forever and everyone would see it and go "WOW JESSE IS SO HOT" and drool over me forever!
4 This is the source of my unbelievable power that saved the earth and so I use it when I need it.
5 This is the planet of Saturn where I trained at for many years before finally gracing the earth with my overwhelming presence. The training facilities were top notch here and there were plenty of gas bubble monsters to help keep me in shape by attacking me every moment.
6 Here is my home planet of Jupiter. I was born from the toxic gasses that loom around the planet's layers and the dot on the planet is where my house used to be until my unbelievable powers caused hit to blow up and become a ball of toxic chemicals.
7 This is the power of my enemy that no longer exists because I vanquished him and restored peace to the surrounding lands.
8 Here is the gatweway to the wizard's world and the human world. It is always a swirling mass of light and will never go away so I have to guard it daily while I continue to save mankind.
9 This is a place in space that exists and cradles all the planets carefully to keep them from bumping into each other. It is an undiscovered power source but this week I shall investigate it further.
10 This is actually the Quacktacular Galaxy ruled by the Queen of Quackers, amy. Her galaxy is steadily growing and she plans to conquer the Earth with her army of quacking companions! Never fear for I am here to stop all evil ducklings and save Earth once more for I am Earth's Greatest Hero!
