The Dursley Debate!

This class is designed to up participation and just basically have fun.

Your job is to post wether you think the Durselys played an important part in Harry defeated Voldemort. You can say either yes, they played an important part or no they didn't. Be sure to support your opinion please!

Here's the catch: you have to disagree with and try to disprove the person who went before you. For example, if i Say I think they were important the person who posts after me has to disagree and tell why I'm wrong. Get it?

I don't think they played an important part at all. They were cruel to Harry the whole time that he lived with them. He was resented, emotionally abused and neglected. They only did what they were asked to do when going into hiding and I think the only reason that they did was because they were afraid the wizards were going to hurt them.

yea but i would see Hagrid or Sirius Taking care of Harry Potter so i dont think the Dursleys had to do with any of it. All they did was take him in hesitantly and treated him like crap. with or without The dursley's he would have done just fine.

However, neither Hagrid nor Sirius were blood relations of Lily. That was one of the key requirements for the protective charm to work. Petunia was the only one left.

They may have been cruel, but that in itself helped Harry, if only in a rather obscure way. The disdain, abuse, and general mal-treatment he experienced at their hands planted the seeds for Harry's desire to be kind. That, in turn, grew into a desire to do away with evil. Had he been giving a cushy life, would he have been the person he turned into? If he'd had it easy all the way, would he have found what courage and honor truly mean? Somehow, I just don't think so.
