First topic message reminder :

Hey everybody. My friend Ray told me my poems were good and said I should set up a topic where we can post poems we've written, both Potter related and non-Potter related. This'll also help us here at Hogwarts to get to know each other better. So, to start us off, here's one of mine I wrote for English last year. Ahem:

Where I’m From

I am from St. Mary’s Hospital,
General Health yearly checkups,
Chicken pox, colds and the flu.

I am from Shabbat candles,
Sunday morning services,
Passover sedars,
From Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Rachel.

I am from books,
Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings,
From Anne who has inspired me, nearly living through Hitler’s reign,
Reading in the sun, the grass warm under my feet.

I am from the lake,
Water-skiing is the sport I love,
Going fast, the water spraying my face.

I am from the dog I loved,
Megan, there my whole childhood,
Graceful in the water,
Her arthritic joints not working so hard,
Her beautiful black coat graying,
Her body thinning,
Gone so suddenly, she left us with sadness and memories.

I am from friendships, new and old,
Cousins, aunts and uncles I see only a few times a year,
Sleepovers and parties, holiday gatherings.

I am from back-to-school shopping,
Grades K-8,
Cold early mornings, the sun barely up or relishing the warmth of the sun on my skin,
Waiting, waiting for the summer days of freedom.

Yeah, not the best, but whatever.

so i'm going to make another poemm.

Far Away

When I stare at my screen
I see you smile at me
I try to smile back, though it may seem
That we were never meant to be

You are so far away
And you don't even know that I walked onto the earth
I wished I started loving you in May
because that's when I thought you started to come closer
But we've been a million miles a part since birth.

Your brown locks and your brown eyes
Never seem to leave my head
Because I'm so in love with you that I'd die
Just to wake up and see you right beside me in my bed

Your voice is like an angel
That came from the heavens
It just melts a girl's heart just to hear you sing, that it makes her dangle.

But why do you have to be so far away
It's almost like you living in California and me living on the total opposite side of the world from you
I wish I may
I wish I might
I wish I wasn't far away from you
and that you were right beside me tonight.

Love is blind,
to even those with perfect sight,
what our heart feels,
isn't always what are head believes right.

Cry your hardest,
When things don't work out,
When your feelings become to much,
just go ahead yell, scream, SHOUT!

No one well think differently of you.
They will understand,
and when you to decide to wake up,
on your feet you will land.

Don't fall into your own darkness,
Don't fall into a pit of sorrow,
because no matter how bad today is,
theres always tomorrow.

Love is blind,
to those even with perfect sight,
but your heart is not,
sometimes what your head thinks isn't always right.

"He loved you,
I hope you know,
his feelings,
he let them show.
I hope you never,
catch another stare,
from him ever again,
For that would mean he still might care.
You broke his heart,
split it in two,
now he's sad,
all because of you.
And every time
he asks why?
what can I do?
the truth..or tell a lie?
You two were so,
perfect together,
but this is what happens when forever really means for-never.
Your in his dreams,
and in his thoughts
even if him,
you've already forgot.
You missed your chance,
you won't get another try,
and I hope you soon realize,
that he was the perfect guy."

I had to write a poem in French and I figured I'd put it here... along with the translation

Of course, the rythm and rhymes are lost in the English version, but at least you get the general idea if you don't know French


"Au creux des tranchées grises, de jeunes gens apeurés
Se tiennent côte à côte, calmant leurs battements de cœur
Fusils à l’épaule, leurs corps recroquevillés
D’étanches champs de sang remplacent les champs de fleurs

Le signal est donné et l’ennemi approche
Des prières murmurées quittent leurs lèvres qui tremblent
Photos des bien-aimées, bien cachées dans leurs poches
Sont plus précieuses et douces que plus tôt, il leur semble

Ils avancent deux par deux, leurs pieds lourds sur la terre
Ils suivent, tête froide, les traces laissées par leurs pères
Leurs cerveaux ignorant la peur qui les dévore

Soudainement au loin résonne un cri de peur
Quelque part à l’horizon, un soldat est mort
Le lendemain, lettre à la main, une jeune femme pleure"



And now the English version since I'm betting nobody got the preceding one XD

"Along the grey trenches, young scared boys
Stand side by side, calming their beating heart
Guns on their shoulders, curled up bodies
Wide fields of blood take place of the flowers fields

The signal is sent, the ennemy is coming
Murmured prayer leave their trembling lips
Pictures of loved one, hidden in their pockets
Are more precious and soft that earlier, it seems

They go forward two by two, their feet heavy on the ground
They follow, cold head, the traces left by their fathers
Their brains ignoring the fright that paralyze them

Suddenly from away, a scream of fright resound
Somewhere in the horizon, a soldier dies
The morrow, a letter in hand, a young woman cries"

ooooooooo I got like 1/3 of that!!!! *pats self on back* and I've only been taking French for 1 and 1/5 years!!! *is happy* XD I have a ton of poems.... that I will type up sometime and post them here XD

This is a poem I wrote a while back

There are times when I feel so alone
Lost in the world, with no place to go
Nothing ever seems to be enough
No matter what I try to say or do
The sky looks so dark, the clouds so grey
Adrift in the ocean, clinging to a dream
My heart feels so hard and heavy
It makes me want to scream
Waves rise up, trying to catch me in their cold embrace
To drag me down to their bottomless depths
And for a moment, I yearn for just a taste
I wonder what it would be like, to touch oblivion
Not to have a care in the world, for the world would not exist
To be free of earthly desires, to not even know
Who or what I am, but with that comes a twist
To do something like that, I would have to give it all up
To lose that something that is essential, my soul
That I coul never do, no matter how great the desire
So I keep moving on,even though my soul has a hole
