Walking on Air (Clafin)

Samantha awoke with a start, not quite sure where she was. Her eyes were still clouded over with dreams. She slowly sat up, rubbed her eyes, and looked around. As soon as she realized that she was in the bedroom of the London flat her grandmother had forced her to buy, she rolled her eyes and sighed. It was either live here, being surrounded by filthy muggles for three months, or getting written off of the will.

Reaching inside of a pillow case, she pulled out her wand and swished it around carelessly. A neatly pile of folded clothes appeared on her bed. Lazily pulling them on, she peeked through the curtain blinds. She practically hissed at the bright sun beating down on her face. "It's too early to be awake." she said to herself through a large yawn. She pulled her hair into a bun and went into the kitchen. She rummaged through the cupboards, desperately looking for a can of coffee. She rolled her eyes and sighed loudly to herself. Pulling on a pair of shoes, she angrily grabbed her purse and made her way outside.

Though Samantha hated nearly everything about the muggle world, she had to admit that they knew how to make coffee. She walked down the sidewalk towards a nearby Starbucks. She saw an old housemate angrily muttering to himself about muggles, and decided it would be best to avoid him. Even in school, he had never seemed to be all the way there.

After getting her drink, she decided to sit down outside and look at how horribly pathetic everyone around her was. That always seemed to make her day just a bit more fun. She pulled on sunglasses and watched quietly, snickering occasionally out how poorly dressed some of them were.

Samantha watched as a blonde girl sitting not too far away, flashed a smile at one of the muggle boys. She rolled her eyes in sympathy for the boy. She'd used a similar smile to get whatever she wanted from whomever she needed it from when she had gone to Hogwarts. She stiffened slightly as the two of them glanced over in her direction. "Oh, bloody hell." she whispered to herself, reaching into her purse to pull out a book. She opened it and pretending to be reading, while she watched the muggle boy approach her.

She turned her head up towards him as he spoke. Biting her lip, she forced herself to respond in a friendly tone. She knew that if word of any poor behavior got to her insane grandmother, there would be no point of her being in London. "Hello?" she answered questioningly. She waited for him to go on and ask whatever it was the blonde girl wanted to know. The boy was obviously nervous, so she prompted him as nicely as possible. "Well, what was it you wanted to know?" she said sweetly, smiling slightly.

Samantha looked at him as a nervous bundle of words blurted out through his mouth. She smiled, almost feeling bad for him. "Oh, well I assure you she doesn't. I'm not from around here." she said honestly. She smiled at him sweetly and watched as the girl he'd pointed out walked over towards them.

She rudely pushed him out of the way and down to the ground. She looked up at Larkson, waiting for her to speak. She reminded her of a few boys that had gone to school with her, but she couldn't remember their last names.

Larkson watched Jake’s back until he was around the corner. Finally, she turned back to the blonde, trying to place her. She could feel her bones aching, trying to figure out why this girl was so different.

“Let’s cut to the chase….are you witch or not?” she asked, taking the seat that Jake had been sitting at. She knew, as a squib, exposing their secret like she somewhat done was dangerous, but honestly, a person would more than likely think she was a pretend wican or something.

“It wouldn’t be a good idea to lie about something like that either….I have sources, not very good ones, but I have plenty…” she mumbled, allowing herself to trail off.



I NEED TO INTRODUCE A NEW CHARACTER D:

Samantha sat there, studying the girl's face as she watched the boy practically run away from them. When the girl asked her question, Samantha kept a straight face. She couldn't help but to think of the two boys from school that Larkson reminded her of. Samantha tried to remember their last name once more, before answering. Setting her book down on the table, she looked up at the blonde before her. "What's it to you?" she asked in an annoyed tone.

Samantha pulled her sunglasses away from her eyes and set them next to the book. Her bangs now hanging loosely in her face. Her eyes squinted slightly as she studied Larkson's face again. "Do I know you?" she asked, lazily not really caring to hear the answer.

Parker...Parker...Parker... No, I don't remember anybody with that last name. But she does look quite familiar, Samantha thought to herself.

Larkson curled her hand into a fist when the girl retorted back with annoyance in her voice. What was it to her? It was everything to her. It was another link to the magical world, the one thing she was desperately trying to escape. Even her own parents pushed her away from their live of rich and magic. She stiffened, allowing herself to sit down to keep herself from fainting. She watched the girl take the sunglasses off and set them down.

“No, why would you know someone who should basically be a muggle?” she hissed softly, her nails digging into her hand. Larkson wasn’t sure why she would tell someone, who had yet to confirm her magical ability, what she was. She barely told the siblings of muggle-born students at her school what she was. She doubted they would know, but why give them a one up on her? At least they knew it wasn’t their fault, whereas, she had to live with the idea that maybe it was her own fault for never trying to use magic.

"Should basically be a muggle?" Samantha asked. "So she is from a magical family. Probably a squib then. How pathetic," she thought to herself, with a smile forming on her soft lips. She thought for a moment, trying to remember if anyone she knew had one of her kind in their family. Not like they would willingly mention such a horrible smear to a family name, but Samantha had a way of finding things out about people. She couldn't think of anyone besides the Jameson twins, but their family name was already dirtier than mud. She studied the girl's as she waited for her to respond.
