| Magical Creatures in the Muggle News
In this assignment, I’d like you to write a newspaper article for a Muggle newspaper. I will give you a general scenario, and you’ll have to be creative and write the article.
The scenario:
· A Muggle(s) is enjoying a day out at the park · Suddenly, a magical creature interrupts their picnic · The Muggle doesn’t know what to do – they thought that this creature only existed in myth and legend.
Your task:
· You’re a Muggle reporter, for a Muggle newspaper, writing up the coverage of this event. · In the scenario, the type of magical creature is not mentioned – this is up to you. · Write about what happened to the Muggle(s) who saw the creature. · Decide what happens to the Muggle(s) who saw the creature. · Include an eyewitness account of what happened – this could be from the Muggle’s point of view, or that of a passer-by who saw the incident. · Don’t forget this is for a Muggle newspaper, so make sure there is no mention of anything magical (e.g. Aurors apparating in, obliviate charms) A Muggle wouldn’t know what they are! · Be creative! When deciding the fate of the Muggle, make sure you’re as creative as you can be.
Points:
Points will be awarded for scoring highly in the following areas:
· Doing what was asked of you in the task. · The style of writing – the better the newspaper ‘voice’ you use, the better your mark will be. · Creativity – don’t be boring with what happens to the Muggle – be creative and original! · Word length – I’d like this to be around 400-700 words long.
Have fun!

| Mythical creature at Local Park
Today at the local park a magical creature appeared that was only in fairy tale books. The creature was a unicorn. For those of you who don’t know what a unicorn is it’s a magical creature that looks like a white horse with a horn on its head. This it what one male, 26 had to say about it. “It just galloped right into the park and started eating some grass. As I looked closer I realized that its leg was broken. I went to get a closer look when it started to go insane and run away from me. A few minutes later these people dressed funny came up and told us to stay away. Asked them if it was really a unicorn and they said no it’s just a horse with a cardboard horn on its head.” The man wouldn’t give us any more information or his name. A girl by the name of Susan McFarland, 48 had to say this “I saw this horse, it had to be a horse because there’s no such thing as unicorns, well anyway I saw it and this guy tried to get closer and it ran away. Then these badly dressed men just come out of nowhere and try to settle it down. Then when they got it under control they told us all to leave and we did. Then I came back like five minutes later and the men was gone and the horse. That was kind of weird.” Later we asked Susan what the horse looked like and she said “It was white and it had a horn but the horn wasn’t real. I’m sure that it wasn’t real because like I said before unicorns are not real. They’re only in fairy tales.” We also went and asked Bobby Maul, 7 what he saw. “I was a unicorn. It was so pretty. I told mommy that I wanted one just like it and she said it was only a horse but I swear it was a unicorn. Then these guys came and calmed the unicorn down and one of the men there told everyone to leave so I left with mommy.” Was it a unicorn or a horse with a fake horn on nobody will know? We gave you three witness accounts on what people saw. Now it’s up to you to decide what was there in that park: a unicorn or a horse with a fake horn on its head.

| Do Magical Creatures Exist?
Just yesterday our very own Natalie Parker from our Political section saw an odd occurrence. As she was walking down Oakfield Park as she does every morning with her dog she saw a mythical beast. A dragon, she had said. She didn’t believe her eyes. Had she accidentally mistaken her allergy pills for something else and now started seeing things? Was she simply going crazy? She had thought so and was about to run away when the dragon grabbed her big fluffy white dog in his claws and to her horror was beginning to eat him.
Now Natalie is a sensible girl, but that dog was her pride and joy, her true friend so she screamed and called the police on her phone trying to tell them what was going on. The dragon growing annoyed with her screaming, shot narrow jets of flame at her feet. The dragon however didn’t seem too interested in her overall. The dog in his claws seemed to surprise it. He didn’t seemed used to prey with claws and fangs, so with a flick of his green scales swallowed it whole.
Mrs. Parker then knew what she had to do. Run. She ran away, and the dragon flew up to her grabbing her by the waist and sniffed her. She was horrified, but to her luck the dragon didn’t seem like a human eater. It dropped her on the ground and flew off. She then began running again while on her cell phone telling this to the police. Mrs. Parker was taken to the hospital, but when the police investigated the area of the park there weren’t any signs of a dragon. There were no burn marks or even any imprints of its feet in the dirt. Her case was dismissed as a hallucination.
And even more amazing I recently talked to Natalie where she claims she doesn’t remember any of this. She doesn’t even remember going to the park that day and claims she went to a restaurant instead, but what about her dog? It’s gone, not a trace of it anywhere. Her shoes have scorch marks on them, and her clothing from that day has rips at the waist. What did happen that night? We even managed to get an eyewitness.
“I saw fire in the distance. Not much of it… but it was there. I thought it was some kids messing around. I didn’t think anything of it. I did hear someone too, like a scream, but at the time it sounded like screams of playing children. I’ve lived by the park for years and never saw a dragon! I do remember hearing a roaring kind of grumble sound, but thought it was a car. But it all makes sense now. There was a dragon there the whole time. And even more odd than that was I heard faint popping sounds minutes later. What was that? Popping unicorns? Ha!” The police however don’t think this eyewitness account is very dependable and won’t admit there may have in fact been a dragon.
But what is out in this world? We probably may never know, for there are so many things out there probably hiding right under our noses. Could there be magical beasts? I for one am not too sure, but you never know, maybe one day you’ll lift up your head and see a green dragon flying above.

| Mythical Creature Sighting
Most would say that Mythical Creatures such as Dragons, Unicorns and Elves were unreal and most likely unable to be seen, seeing that they were made up. But, today a young teenage couple were out by the docks having a private picnic when rather odd looking creature came and inturrupted them
The young woman, who refused to give out her name gave us a rather weird description of the beast. "It had four legs, like a horse and a beak with wide beady looking eyes! It also had wings!" Investigators have found no trace of this animal, except for it's hoof tracks.
Jason, the young woman's boyfriend says he had never seen anything more frightening. Their picnic did not go as planned for after the creature appeared, it started to attack the poor young man when he tried to walk up to it. He was sent to the hospital with sevre wounds, but is all right.
George Walker, the rental cashier by the docks saw the odd happening and ran to the young couple's rescue. "I was going to shoot it down!" he told reporters, but it seemed that the creature knew better and flew off.
Still, the question remains. What on earth was the creature and where did it come from? Is there any chance that this beast could be a new sort of species? Or is it a creature of the supernatural? Investigators are still out searching, but we believe ths to be a mystery unsolved.

| FIGMENTS OF OUR IMAGINATION?
Do you believe in fairies? This is the key question that this reporter posed to one of the locals this week. The answer, of course, was no. The same question was posed to the Burton family of 12 Hamilton Street. Surprisingly, we received a resounding affirmation that indeed, fairies DO exist.
When further requested for a reason, the family in question were eager to report their findings during a picnic the previous Sunday.
While munching on a cheese and pickle sandwich, and trying to prevent the baby from eating the grass, Mrs Burton states that she “had to snatch at one of them black things that fly around trying to land on food and do their business on it. It ain’t no good for the children so I had to keep it away from the food…”
However, Mr Burton claims that his wife cried out in pain as soon as she closed her palm on this creature that we assume to be a fly. “She almost dropped the baby, see? So I had to try and juggle the baby and our Tommy with one hand and sort out the missus with the other!”
On closer examination, Mrs Burton says that she was staring down into the grinning face of a mini human with wings. This reporter is certain that the readers are familiar with their childhood stories, and that Mrs Burton mystery creature would probably be classed as a fairy. However, young Thomas Burton was quite eager to express his opinion that “a fairy couldn’t have bitten my Mummy. Fairies are nice and they look pretty and they don’t have teeth to bite with because they eat buttercup juice.”
While our young expert may be certain of the fact that this creature was harmless, Mrs Burton was seen by a passing gentleman on a midday stroll, as she fell into a dead faint in her husband’s arms. The fly-like creature was not captured after it flew away, reportedly cackling like an evil megalomaniac. However, Mrs Burton, was taken away by ambulance to the local St Janet’s Hospital to undergo a battery of tests to determine whether she was poisoned or not.
Currently, she is in a stable state, though Mr Burton is now being treated from delayed hysteria and shock and the two Burton children are enjoying their time in the hospital’s children’s ward. Mrs Burton has woken up intermittently and insists that she is perfectly fine and does not need to be treated for a simple fall down the stairs, although this is what is worrying her current psychologist. “She has every memory of this event, yet she cannot remember that she is hospital because of the bite, not her earlier fall down the stairs.”
We from the Metropolitan News send out kind regards to the Burton family and thank them for the wonderful insight they had to send out the message not to grab passing flies.

| Is this just our imagination?
We have all heard of or seen Mermaids in movies and in books. They are defined as beautful sea creatures that are half fish and half human. Most believe these made up creatures to be fictional characters, but are they really? Two children who live down by the docks think otherwise.
It happened last Tuesday when they went out to go skip rocks at the ocean.
Suzanna, who just turned ten this past month claims she dropped her bag into the water, after flinging it off. Her brother Thomas, 11 went to reach for her when he was suddenly sprayed with water.
"I know what I saw, it was a mermaid." he says defiantly to policemen on the day that it happened. His sister claims she only saw a long tail dive back underwater ,but that was about it.
We've had reports in the past where children make up stories. Is this a case we should avoid or are they actually elling us the truth. The truth was confirmed on Saturday morning when Mr. Jameson, a lawyer went fishing along with his wife and son.
Mrs. Jameson fainted in shock at the sighting of this mythical creature from under the sea. She told us the only she remebers is her husband telling her to reel in the fish, before she collapsed. Mr. Jameson was able to conclude her witness.
"When she pulled line out of the water, it was a mermaid that she hooked." He said. "And she didn't look happy about it, it nearly drowned my son!"
Steven Jameson who is just but a little over 13 told reporters what happened. He claims that after his mother hooked the creature, it turned mean and pulled him into the water. It was lucky perhaps that his dog came to the rescue or poor Steven would have drowned.
"I don't much of what happened," he says, rubbing his dog behind the ears. "But, I know I owe Lucky my life." when asked about the mermaid that had tried to drown him, he simply shrugs. "I would see why it took revenge, but to know that they actually existed is hard for me to swallow."
Mrs. Jameson was released from the hospital the same day after she revived from her faint by the docks. We asked doctors about her condition. "It was just from the shock." said Dr.Pallenton. "Nothing serious."
Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this and find out what trully lies beneath the sea and if we should be worried for our well being.

| A Bird made of fire? WAS IT REAL?
This lovely quiet park is the place where something extraordinary happened.A week ago, several of the citizens of Seattle, WA saw a most wondrous vision descend from the sky.
Instead of an ordinary morning as always, this particular morning the people here saw something both magical and magnificent! A creature resembling a bird, descended from the sky and flew several feet across before simply vanishing back up into the sky.
"This thing had wings made from the sun and you could feel the heat radiating off its body!" claimed a local sanitation worker, Byron Boils who was picking up trash at the park that morning of the sighting.
"It breathed fire! A sign of the end of the world!" said a horrified Mrs. Olena Tubertone, who had been taking her local elementary school class to the park for a science outing. We spoke to some of the children, who were more than excited to give us their take on the sighting.
"It was like a million feet tall with big black eyes and I saw it was trying to talk to us and I think I want one for a pet. I am asking mom when I get home!" a little girl, Iris Urnich told us with great enthusiasm. "I'm asking Santa for a fireball bird for Christmas." added little Toby Tyris, a fellow classmate.
The 'fireball bird' these children and people claimed to have seen was hard to even name, so the Department of Mythological Creatures and Historic Studies was called in. Dr. Gary Watersmitters, gave us his statement. "It's a very fascinating case. Almost unbelievable." He said as he allowed our camera crews to take pictures of the supposed burned brush that had been set ablaze, as the creature flew away quickly.
Prehystoric Paleontoligist Dr Edward Claystore had this to say. "Well, according to our database and records there's never been a sighting like this in our years of studying prehistoric creatures. What we can gather from witnesses is we believe it to be a prehystoric bird of some sort but without visual confirmation, our reasearchers are at a stall."
However, the several eyewitnesses have different views. "It flew down gracefully and as it soared over my head, I can swear it was a bird made out of fire. And I bet it came from the sun." Meddle Moo a homeless man said as he was relaxing in the park. "I looked up over me and swore the sun was falling on me."
"My view is that it had to be a government weapon." claims Woodrow Wimple, a court attourney on vacation with his family in the park. "No such thing as magic, therefore my firm belief is that it was something top secret that we aren't supposed to be know about. And my opinion is to leave it at that."
But several witnesses don't want to leave it at 'that' , they are eager to know answers.
"Why did it appear? I'm telling you, it was one of the forms of the great Creator." said homemaker, Rita Sweets.
"I think it was a phoenix." claimed a blonde haired, teen boy who asked not to be named due to his popular status among the public. "I study mythology and that's what it had to be.It was quite a sight. I might want to write a song about it." He added showing off his rather stylish guitar.
As this story has rattled the quiet Seattle Community, it has sparked tourist growth by 20% which city officials agree is a good thing. The Mayor had this to say. "Whether it be a bird or a plane or some fiddle faddle thing such as that, I welcome everyone to come and see if they can get the chance to see it. It could be a sign of good luck for the future of this great city and great publicity too."
So far, the creature has not been seen again.

| SHOCK MYTH UNVEILED AT SUBURBAN PARK – writes Katherine Dixon.
The revelation that creatures from fairy tales can come into real life was once a ludicrous statement, however a family of 4 at a local park yesterday found out that these tales, really can come to life.
During a picnic lunch, Pat Daniels [41] and her daughter noticed a particularly white horse casually strolling through their residential parkland on Bondi Beach - a popular tourist attraction in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. At closer investigation, the daughter of Ms Daniels [Sarah, 4], saw that the horse had an unusual silver horn type growth on its upper forehead. “My little Sarah saw the thing first. When I saw it I wondered why a horse would be wandering through here without any saddle or nothing! Then she tells me that it’s got a stick coming out of its head” comments Ms Daniels, about her first views on the creature.
This particular “growth” on the horse’s head was a cone like shape, around 29cm in length, and shimmering silver in colour. Such an eye catching feature can only allow its audience to make the speculation that it was, indeed a unicorn. Unicorns, mythical creatures that resemble a horse with a magnificent horn, have only been told about in fantasy stories. Medieval generations once believed that the horn was very valuable, and held antidotes for many poisons – all theories that have been destroyed by modern scientific fact.
The creature in question had now been spotted by the rest of the Daniels family, when Tim [46] and Nathan [7] had kicked their football 5ft before its ‘hooves’. Watching it quiver at the ball rolling over the patch of grass it was just feeding off, was an unreal experience for Nathan. “It just started to shake it did! When my footy went near it, I thought it was gonna cry, but then dad told me that horses don’t do that. I told him it was not a horse, it looked like something from one of Sarah’s picture books!” says Nathan.
Soon enough more and more people noticed the supposed ‘unicorn’, and crowded around the frightened beast. Mark Harlond [32], head of the North Bondi SLSC, alerted animal protection groups immediately at his first glance at the state of the creature. “The poor thing was petrified, the flashes of the cameras, kids trying to grab its horn, it was all too much for the little fella” After calling for aid from some of the off duty lifeguards, Mr. Harlond and 6 others managed to order the crowd away from the timid animal. As soon as the RSPCA had arrived, they had taken the ‘unicorn’ to the stables they manage out in Western Sydney. The manager of the RSPCA had no comment.
After the creature’s departure, many of the on-lookers had different opinions. “It can’t be a unicorn, they aren’t real. Someone has just gotten a horse as a media ploy” says Cameron Bradley [21] of Coogee. Amanda Fischer [59] also agrees. “The fact that anyone would bring such a satanic disguise on a horse is despicable. It’s encouraging magic, and it’s against God” The majority of the audiences, young kids and adolescents aged 5-16, believe differently. “How could someone of just stuck a cone on a horses head and made it look so real? We’ve heard about unicorns countless times, who is to say they are just myths now? Horses don’t look like that, and adults need to stop being so naïve” Sammy Chalinbovic [15] comments.
The local community of Bondi Beach was buzzing with excitement and chatter of the ‘unicorn’ and its mysterious appearance. The animal is being investigated by scientists at current. The information regarding its whereabouts preceding the local park is inconclusive.

| "Three-headed serpent and Mysterious Man"
Last sunday, 16th July, David Ling was found in a park in Sintra apparently dead! But the 21 year old man miraculously woke up at his funeral giving relatives a fright of dead!. However this is not the strangest thing that happened to this man. After the shock and cries of happyness his family tried to speak with him but he answered in what it seemed to be a totally different language! A month later a psychologist accidently discovered that the man was not speaking in an unknown language but simply backwards. So he was able to tell what happened to him in that park by recording what he said and playing it backwards. What he had to tell was shocking! He was just taking a walk in the park relaxing from the week stress when (can you imagine) a three-headed serpent shows up in his way. According to him the snake was seven feet and livid orange with black stripes. Shocked with fear David said he wasn't able to run. He also told that three heads seemed to be talking to each other and became gradually more violent until two of them (the right and left one) bite of the middle one head. After that they looked at him and striked him, he just felt the bite and instantly passed out. Woke up three days later in his own funeral and didn't know why he didn't died, why he wasn't swallowed by the snake or why he was speaking that way. experts are trying to fixing him but are having no results.
After such a strange and unbelievable story I went to Sintra to see if I could find anyone that had witnessed the incident. A question here and there lead me to a 60 year old woman called Jane Miles, which had an even more weird and unbelievable explanation of what happened that day with David. Here's the interview: RM(Raistlin Majere) - Good afternoon. You claimed to have witnessed what happened with David Ling. JM(Jane Miles) - Yes, i surely Have. RM - What can you tell us then? did you saw a three-headed serpent? JM - Oh yes, my dear. It was the scariest thing I ever seen in my whole life. I still Have noghtmares with it! RM - Hum. Did you saw what happened after David got bitten? Anything out of normal? what happened to the snake? JM - The snake looked like it was getting ready to eat that poor boy when suddenly out of nowhere a man with strange silvery green clothes showed up... RM - Yes? Why did the you stop? JM - Well, you see, I know it's impossible but I saw and heard the man talking to snake!!! RM - How's that? JM - I don't know how to explain it! He was kinda of hissing towards the snake which seemed to be listening and it followed the man and both dissapeared behind some bushes. Next I called an ambulance. You know the rest. RM - Okay! Well Thanks for you collaboration. JM - Oh dear it was my pleasure.
What can we say about this? I say that there are things we don't know and can't explain? But how much is much? How can we rely in a 60 year old woman or a man that talks backwards? is it another unexplainable case or just a big fake lie? I let you to chosse what you want to believe. Reality or fiction?
