| For this class, you are required to create your own garden. Part 1: In essay form, though no word count is given though the morre detailed you are the more housepoints may be possible! Choose 10 different herbs, spices, plants etc to have in your garden and explain, as a witch/wizard, the uses they have of being there. The garden is where a wide variety of useful herbs can be grown. When witches and wizards need them, all they have to do is to go and pick them without having to buy them. One of the best plants to have is Mandrake plants. You need these for a specific mandrake drought incase of being petrified. Also it's important to have the following in your garden: aconite, asphodel, belladonna, daisy, fluxweed, ginger, hellebore, knotgrass, nettle and wormwood. Aconite though it's poisonous in some ways, it is used to make the wolfsbanes potion and so therefore its a useful plant to have, just best to be careful how to handle it. Asphodel is used in making the Draught of the Living Dead and is useful as well. Belledonna is a poisonous plant that is necessary for student potions when they are starting out and by having this plant, they can recognize it and know of it before starting school. The daisy when it is chopped up is used in the Shrinking solutions potion and can be handy to have around the home and garden. Fluxweed is an essential ingredient for making the Polyjuice Potion and so growing fluxweed in your garden is good. Having ginger in your garden you can use it in Wit sharpening potions that help you think better and feel smarter. Hellebore is quite poisonous but having it helps protect your animals from evil spells and is useful in making yourself invisible. Knott-grass grown in your garden is good to have because it is also an active ingredient in the Polyjuice Potion. Wormwood, also used in the Draught of Living Dead potion. Nettles are great for making delicious nettle tea and a great use in making boil cure potions. Part 2: Create a visual picture of your garden, using either pen and paper, computer software or movie maker! Explain why you have put the herbs etc where you have! The way I have setup my garden is that the knotgrass and the least used herbs and plants are scattered along the outer portions. The most important ingredients are actually towards the middle and the poisonous plants are in their own group back towards the far back. This is practical because if you are walking through and picking your herbs, you don't want to be walking directly through the poisonous plants so it is practical to place them at the back of the garden. Also they act as a shield against rodents and creatures such as garden gnomes. Possible housepoints: Part 1: 30 housepoints Part 2: 20 housepoints Total: 50 housepoints (My source is the Harry Potter Lexicon under Herbology) | |
