Vampires of Ancient times

Vampires are mythical creatures that is said to gain strength from drinking the blood of a human. They are usually known as the undead that drinks blood which can by symbolized as taking the life from another living person in order to survive.

There are many versions of these blood sucking creatures of every culture that dates back to hundreds of years ago. One of the earliest mentions of this creature was in the ancient Babylonian times. They called similar vampire like creatures Lilu. They believed that the Lilu are female demons that would roam the village at night and prey on children and defenseless women. Women feared then because it was told that these demons would kidnap their children to be raised in evil. Men feared them because it was told that Lilu could change their forms to become beautiful young women that would visit men in their dreams and seduce them. Thus drinking their blood and draining them of all their energy until they died. The Lilu would then take the semen from the men and impregnate various women in order to reproduce more of their demonic offsprings.

Another form of vampire in ancient history is the Hindu version called the vetala. These creatures are actual angry spirits that have abandoned and did not receive the last funerary rites. Therefore they are stuck between the living and the afterlife. These creatures are known to scavenge the cemetery late night to finds a suitable corpse to inhabit. Using the body, they will then proceed to cause miscarriages, kill children, and cause fights to appease their anger. Often they are chased away by gifts, spells, or given the funeral last rites. However, since these spirits have extraordinary knowledge about the past and future, many times they are captured by sorcerers and made into slaves.
