| It says this on the right hand side - Quote :
- 1.Focus on one question (concerning your professional life, love, project, etc.). ASK ONLY 1 QUESTION PER DAY AND NOT MORE!
2.Choose 1 rune from among those shown below. Place your mouse on this rune. DO NOT CLICK THE MOUSE. 3.While focusing on this rune, pick a number between 10 and 30. 4.Move clockwise that many runes. 5.Click the rune. This is Lily adding to the post - make sure you open the page in IE explorer since the code doesn't work with firefox and other browsers. I didn't realize that when I made the assignment.

| WOO! my first homework (be fair it's after 3am & I'm on meds) :pale: Part one 1: Will I find love? 2: Man rune 3: 9 it’s a lucky number because 3 goes into 9 3 times. 4: My reading: “MAN This rune symbolizes a human being. It suggests that you express your potential for generosity, friendship and altruism. This rune represents your inner qualities that you can use to em You are powerful over the events. You will find a solution to your problems. The answer lies within you.” 5: To me this reading tells me that the solution to my answer was inside me all along & I should use my personal attributes and uniqueness to find love & not wait for it to come my way…I also find it ironic that I want love & picked the Man rune. LOL. 6: I agree with my reading partly. I agree on the fact that I should find the guy myself so I get what I want out of a relationship. I disagree on the grounds that I am super shy & I don’t break out my shell easily so I tend to not approach people of both sexes. Part two 1: Samhain is the Traditional first day of Winter in Ireland. It was also used for a month of a Celtic calendar to make the end of the summer season & the harvest. 2: The evening of October 31st to November 1st 3: Runes are an alphabet and is also used as a system of divination and magic. | |

| 1) What was your question? (2) Will I finally get a job soon? 2) Find a picture of the rune you started on. (2) 3) What number did you choose and why? (3) 22 - It's my lucky number 4) Post your reading here. (2) DAEG This rune symbolizes transformation. This is a very positive rune which brings prosperity and amelioration. It is the liht after darkness; health after illness; triumph after adversity. You have to seize the opportunity and be positive and serene 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. (10) Hopefully it means that after the trials of submitting hundreds of applications and CVs, I'll get a little taste of the prosperity and amelioration they're harping on about. For my future, it means I might not have to be embarassed about my bank balance. 6) Do you agree with your reading? (3) Judging by the evidence at hand, and the fact that I got the letter about repaying my student loan today, no. Total points: 22 points Part Two: 1) What is Samhain? (2) Samhain (Soow-in) is a pagan holiday that marks the transition between summer and winter. 2) When is Samhain? (2) Samhain is on October 31st 3) In what way does this relate to Ancient Runes? (4) Samhain is supposed to be the night where the barriers between our world and the supernatural are at their weakest, therefore, divination and runecasting would naturally be at their strongest. Total points: 8 points Extra Credit: 1) For the rune you started on and landed on tell me their full meaning in ancient runes. (10) Jara, the rune of seed, growth and harvest. Ethymologically, the word Jara is the same as the German Jahr, or the English Year, meaning the whole cycle of life. WInter, spring, summer and fall, and over again. It concerns the circulation of seasons, the work of preparing and sowing the fields, and the patience required awaiting the harvest. One ancient Swedish greeting phrase is "Ars och Fridar", which means that you greet people with a wish of good harvest and peace. "Fridar" is in this regard a wonderful word, because it relly means peace, not only in the meaning absence of war, but also in the deeper sense; peace of mind. This rune is in many ways a Scandinavian equivalent of the symbol Yin/Yang (it even resembles this oriental image). Jara represents the meeting between the seasons, between light and darkness, day and night, man and woman, and among the gods Jara represents the sacred, sexual marriage ritual between the God and Goddess, Frey and Freya. Sex is both a means of enjoyment as well as survival, and Jara is sexually a very important rune - this time concerning the means of survival more than pleasure; the procreation of children, and also the animals on the farm and in the nature. It was common practice in pre-Christian times (and most probably hundreds of years into Christian time, only more secretly) that men and women in the springtime would go out on the fields to have sex, as a ritual to please the gods (mainly Frey and Freya), and to be sure that this procreational force would spread to the earth. Jara also represents hopes and expectations for the future. - Sourced from http://www.multiart.nu/grimner/english/texts/readingrunes.htmlFeh means cattle, and cattle represents wealth. Feh represents the kind of property that can be sold and bought (contrary to the long-term landownership represented by Odal), which also includes the financial aspect of life - money. Generally one can say that Feh represents happiness and prosperity. But there is another side of Feh which is equally important. Feh symbolizes completion, the circle is closed, and it's time to take the next step. Feh indicates that you have reached your goals, completed your mission, and that you are entitled to some well-deserved rest, enjoying the fruits of your work. No more loose ends. How this rune is interpreted reversed is very much dependendent on time, place and circumstance (which is always true for all the runes). At times it may indicate a lack of wealth, financial problems. But it can also be interpreted as greed - an exaggerated interest in financial matters and/or materialistic values. A third way of reading the rune is that it may indicate loose ends, unfinished projects, and the energy leakage that comes from that. The versatility of the runes demands a great sensitivity performing oracle work, and Feh is no exception to this rule. - Sourced from http://www.multiart.nu/grimner/english/texts/readingrunes.htmlTotal points: 10 points Assignment Total: 40 points | |

"WYN This rune symbolizes joy. Joy will come from your work and through creative endeavors. Joy will be experienced in your love life from sharing emotional and physical pleasures. A change will materialize if you maintain your enthusiasm. Use your creative talents and intuition for your projects. Success comes from the plesaure you derive from your actions." 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. "Joy will come from your work" - well, I don't have work! But I have been looking for a while, and I've applied for a lot of jobs, which would be my "enthusiasm", and hopefully "change" would be getting employed! "Success comes from the plesaure you derive from your actions" - I'm hoping this refers to the money I'd get, but you can never be too hopeful, right? ;) 6) Do you agree with your reading? If my interpretation is accurate, and it means I'll get a job soon, then of course I'm going to agree! Part Two: 1) What is Samhain? Samhain is the word for November in the Irish language, and the traditional pagan first day of winter. 2) When is Samhain? The evening of October 31st to November 1st. 3) In what way does this relate to Ancient Runes? Oh No!! 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. (10)My first reaction is oh no! It refuses to answer me, so that cant be good *cries* but then I guess if I think of it, actually it isnt too bad. If it had of told me that I was going to pass them all I would have probably not studyed hard enough and if it had told me that I will fail then maybe I would have given up completely, so actually its best that I got this rune and reading and its best that I didnt get an answer 6) Do you agree with your reading? (3)34, I always pick this number. So, I guess it's my lucky number. 4) Post your reading here. (2) WYRD This rune symbolizes destiny. It is the blank rune. It is the unknowable. The oracle reserves the right not to answer you. 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. (10)In a way it does relate to my question because no matter how hard I try to be different from my brother and sisters, we'll always look alike, always share that strong bond. The rune was blank another meaning for Destiny. It's up to me whether or not I want to be an individual from being a quadruplet. IN the meantime, my future is undecided with this question. I don't think I'm ready, but it's never too late to take a break and do something on your own. 6) Do you agree with your reading? (2) Will a Hufflepuff win the BB tournament? 2) Find a picture of the rune you started on. (2) 3) What number did you choose and why? (3) I chose the number sixteen because it was the first thing that jumped into my head, so I went with my gut instincts and stuck with it. 4) Post your reading here. (2) RAD This rune symbolizes a trip or voyage. Expect positive news or change. In your professional life, the door opens, allowing your project or plans to materialize. Negotiations will bring new contracts. Be ready for new direction, traveling, and transformation by being open-minded. 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. (10) Traveling to the HEBB house was a trip or voyage, and in this way it relaltes to my question-the travel Hufflepuff took on the ‘road of life’ to get to where it is now in the HEBB standings. Since the rune represents ‘positive things’, I’m going to assume that a Hufflepuff will win the HEBB tournament, because that would be an incredibly positive thing in my life. It also states how projects or plans materialize, and Hufflepuff has certainly been planning a lot for HEBB and it is HE’s latest project, so, it will be completed in a way extremely favorable to Hufflepuff. It also states how negotiations will bring new contracts, this could mean that if Hufflepuff works together, and negotiates, a new contract-or bond of Hufflepufflyness, could double our chances of winning. The traveling mentioned will be taken by evicted members of the house-obviously, not Hufflepuffs, well, at least not until the very end! By being ‘open-minded’ and coming up with exciting new ‘directions’ to solve challenges, Hufflepuffs will remain at the top-where they belong. (Sorry for the opinionatedness, Lily XD) 6) Do you agree with your reading? (3) I agree with it IMMENSELEY. Hufflepuffs are loyal hardworkers, who will toil away to achieve whatever they can. And the HEBB tournament is no different. Look out everybody, here we badgers come! Total points: 22 points Part Two: 1) What is Samhain? (2) It is the wicca sabbat that marks the end of summer and the beginning of winter. It is a time for honouring the dead. 2) When is Samhain? (2) October 31st-aka, Halloween or All Hallow’s Eve. 3) In what way does this relate to Ancient Runes? (4) During Samhain, the barrier between the worlds of the living and the dead are the weakest, so various types of divination can be performed with great results during this time. Also, runes are used to contact the dead. Total points: 8 points Extra Credit: 1) For the rune you started on and landed on tell me their full meaning in ancient runes. (10) This is Fehu, the rune I started on. It is like the letter ‘F’ and represents domestic cattle and wealth. When getting Fehu in a rune casting, it could mean any of the following things: Possessions won or earned, earned income, luck. Abundance, financial strength in the present or near future. Sign of hope and plenty, success and happiness. Social success. Energy, foresight, fertility, creation/destruction (becoming). If, during a rune reading, Fehu is reversed, the meanings become the exact opposite: Loss of personal property, esteem, or something that you put in effort to keep. It indicates some sort of failure. Greed, burnout, atrophy, discord. Cowardice, stupidity, dullness, poverty, slavery, bondage. I give you Rad, or Raidho, which it is also sometimes called. Rad is similar to the letter “R” and represents a wagon or chariot. When divined for you in a reading, Rad could be symbolizing any of these: Travel, both in physical terms and those of lifestyle direction. A journey, vacation, relocation, evolution, change of place or setting. Seeing a larger perspective. Seeing the right move for you to make and deciding upon it. Personal rhythm, world rhythm, dance of life. If Rad is divined reversed, the meaning is drastically different-and ominous: Crisis, rigidity, stasis, injustice, irrationality. Disruption, dislocation, demotion, delusion, possibly a death. Note: Some of the results that occur while divining I copied directly from my source, since I could see no possible way to re-word them. (3) I chose number 24 because that was the number that jumped out at me. 4) Post your reading here. (2) KEN This rune symbolizes beginnings. This is a time for starting or restarting. If you have health problems, you recover or heal. If concerning your love life, this Rune symbolizes a new love relationship, with good times to come. This rune suggests that you take action and not be submissive. 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. (10) I believe that this rune does relate to my question. (so accurate it’s quite frightening! Lol) I’ve been having doubts about going through with my original major which is pharmacy. I hate all types of sciences and am very bad at all of them. My main focus for this major was sadly enough just for the salary in the future. Yet I’ve begun to think that perhaps I shouldn’t try so hard in something I hate to do. Yet changing my major would mean I would have to start all over, at another college. The reading symbolizes beginnings. This is accurate because if I took the leap and changed I would have to start all over. Yet this rune shows that I should start over. It also advises me to “take action and not be submissive.” Which is what I need to make another decision on soon. 6) Do you agree with your reading? (3) I do agree with this rune. Or at least this is what I would like to do. However whether or not I’ll be able to take the leap is still undecided. Total points: 22 points Part Two: 1) What is Samhain? (2) It is a holiday which marks the end of the last harvest. 2) When is Samhain? (2) This is the word for November in the Irish language. It is at the beginning of November and the end of October, which shows the last harvest. 3) In what way does this relate to Ancient Runes? (4) At this moment, folklore states that this day is when the line between the living and the dead is at its weakest. Therefore this is when many take advantage to make contact with the dead and perform rituals. Total points: 8 points Extra Credit: 1) For the rune you started on and landed on tell me their full meaning in ancient runes. (10) The rune that I landed on and start on is the same rune, the Kenaz rune. This rune’s gem is the bloodstone, the flower is the wild rose, and the number that it associates with is the number 3. The traditional meaning of this rune is a torch. This means that hidden knowledge is revealed. Similarly to the way a torch shows light on a hidden pathway, the Kenaz rune represents understanding and discovery toward something unknown. The element that is linked to this rune is the fire. The fire symbolizes the start/spark of something, or an idea, coming alive. Starting new. In different instances, this rune means well being and recovery for anyone who is sick. In relationships it means that you are the active person in the relationship, the one who starts things and keeps it alive. (3) I chose 27 because I like numbers with seven. My favorite number is 17, but I decided to jump to 27 to be different for once. 4) Post your reading here. (2) EH This rune symbolizes a horse. It means a move, trip, or change regarding your professional life. Progress is close by but you need to be open-minded. Be ready to take the reigns, adapt and change your horizon. Whether spiritually or physically, you need to move, travel, and discover. Let go of your old habits or problems and go for the new adventure.5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. (10) It’s slightly scary how much it relates to my question. I asked about my profession, and it gave me an answer concerning it. I’m in high school at the moment and starting to think about colleges and what I’m going to do with the rest of my life, which is partly why I asked what I did. I don’t think that this reading means that my family and I are moving away, we’re just fine where we are and the jobs my parents have don’t need them to travel all over. I love travel, which is another interesting thing about the rune reading. I wish to go overseas to Europe when I graduate, and if possible, before, a ‘new adventure’. I’d also love to study abroad during college for at least a semester. This year in school I’ve been enjoying having the opportunity to discover new things, more ‘new adventures’ now if you will. And the part about ‘a change in my personal life’? Well, I can’t tell you what that means, I’m not psychic. I’ve never had a boyfriend, so maybe that’s in my future, near or far? Perhaps, perhaps. I like the reading, it seems to fit really well. 6) Do you agree with your reading? (3) Mostly yes, I do agree. It’s interesting and is giving me something to think about. Total points: 22 points Part Two: 1) What is Samhain? (2) Samhain is an important Celtic holiday. It celebrates the beginning of a new cycle. 2) When is Samhain? 4) KEN This rune symbolizes beginnings. This is a time for starting or restarting. If you have health problems, you recover or heal. If concerning your love life, this Rune symbolizes a new love relationship, with good times to come. This rune suggests that you take action and not be submissive.
At first this seems odd in relation to my question, but at a second glance it seems to me that this is telling me thatin order to achieve my goal, I need to change something and start over new with a new way of tackling things. Also it says that I will need to work harder than I have been lately.
6) I agree with it though I do not necessarily like it. I think it gives good advice of what I should do.
Part Two:
1) It is a celtic festival that means Summer's End. It is like a celtic version of the New Year.
2) It occurs on the 1st of November.
It is supposed to symbolize the start of new beginnings, which is also what the Rune KEN symbolizes, mentioned above. (I swear I didn't set it up so that I got that rune earlier)
bonus:
1) started on: IS This rune symbolizes ice. It speaks about obstacles, or a cooling period regarding your contacts with others. At work, expect a decline of your enthusiasm. In love, your relationship lacks passion and ardor. For the immediacy, there is a freeze of your plans. Wait for an amelioration of your situation before acting again

1) For the rune you started on and landed on tell me their full meaning in ancient runes. (10)Rune that I started Sigel or Sowilo Galdr-sound: ssssss Letter: S The rune sowilo is the rune ofthe sun, an active power which either shows itself forth as the whirling of a wheel or as a thunderbold/sword. In either side of its being, the sowilo rune shows the invincible power of the will. You may note that the sun-wheel or swastika is made of two sowilo runes laid over each other, showing the being of this rune as a symbol of holiness and source of power which is recognized even beyond the Indo-European world. Unfortunately, this archetypal symbol has had a great deal of ill thought attached to it as a consequence of its use by the Nazi regime, and hence is used only in private today because of the distress it causes in those who are unaware of its true meaning. It should be mentioned that a good number of metaphysically aware people think that the swastika is meant to spin clockwise (reversed sowilo rune) and that Hitler deliberately made it a symbol of darkness by turning it backward. This is not true. The swastika has been an ancient and honorable sign of power among the Germanic people for thousands of years in both its forms. The swastika reversed does not change in being any more than a rune reversed does; the ancient runeworkers wrote right to left, left to right and alternately back and forth. If rune reversal ahad any meaning, it woud be far harder to make bind-runes well. In point of fact, althought deosil and widdershins are not without meaning in Teutonic magic, they do not automatically distinguish between works of weal and works of woe. As the rune of the sun, sowilo is the rune of invincibility and final triumph. The Old Icelandic Rune Poem´s reference shows it being as a rune which acts both as a warder and in active combat. As the wheel, it is a shield; as a thunderbolt, it is a sword. The Old Norwegian Rune Rhyme shows sowilo as a ruling power and the light of life. This rune has certain conceptual ties to elhaz; you should mark that the sun, like the valkyrja, is always feminine in Germanic thought. As well as guardianship and might, the sun is also guidance, as the Anglo-Saxon Rune poem tells. " To fare far away " ia a kenning used either for death or for the journeys taken by the magician in a deathlike trance. In this case, the ocean referred to may be the waters between the worlds - the dark waters of the underworld of the personal subconscious (see laguz). The magical will is the force which brings you throught the dark night of the soul and guides you living through the death-passage. In this setting sowilo the sun is closely related to raidho (the path of the sun) and to laguz (the waters that must be crossed). Note the similarities in the Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem references. In both the shape and actionof sowilo, you may also see a certain likeness to eihwaz. Eihwaz, however, is unshakable and unchanging - the will to endure- whereas sowilo is endlessly mobile - the will to act. Both are runes of transformation. Thorsson identifies sowilo with the chakras (wheels) along the length of the spine which are vitalized by the spinal fires of eihwaz. Sowilo is used to strengthen the active, magical will, making it into an invincible and unstoppable force. Both its shielding and striking capabilities are bound up in this action; nothing can assail the fully developed will, and nothing can withstand it. The woe-working side of this rune is its insignia. Wrongly used, it is the rune of arrogance, cruelty and isolation. The will itself is a neutral force, with weal and woe depending on its goals, as may be learned from both the triumphs and the terrible destruction wrought by Hitler, who consciously believed in nothing but his own will. The rune sowilo and the swastika may both be used in understadning the currents of power which swirl widdershins through the earth and deosil through the heavens, coming forth from and meeting at the poles. In ritual usage, sowilo is associated with the hammer of hallowing. Used with other runes, sowilo activates and vitalizes. Sowilo can be used with meditations on the wheels of the body (chakras). It brings out the ability for active leadership; that is, the ability to inspire others with your own will. It is not a rune for victory in the same way as tiwaz, but it is the rune of active triumph and of warding from wounds and defeat. Tiwaz is a rune by which you may overcome others; sowilo is a rune by which you strengthen yourself. The stone most traditionally associated with sowilo is the Norse sunstone (identified as iolite by some, Icelandic spar by others) which, because of its refractive properties, was a valuable navigational aid to the Norse seafarers. There is also another stone called sunstone, an orange form of moonstone which reflects light brilliantly and works well with this rune. Also appropriate to sowilo is the diamond which, like the rune, is brilliantly invincible, its very name meaning either unconquerable or hardest steel. The diamond is a great stone of warding and also brings shining might into the wheels of the body. Rune That I landed on – Feoh Feoh, Faihu, Fe: Cattle, property, wealth. Galdr Sound: The phonetic value of the letter F Fehu appears as the letter "F" with the two horizontal lines pointing upward The rune Fehu means literally cattle, which meant the measure of wealth in the earliest period of Germanic history, as well as the image of cattle brings to mind the sacred cow Audhumbla, the first bovine created from the first mingling of fire and ice along with the proto-eting Ymir. Both the sacred cow and the giant Ymir represent the primeval shaping forces of the universe. As society evolved, the power embodied by cattle was transferred to gold, with which one could buy them. Both served in turn as the physical representation of mobile energy of creation, which can also manifests as money in human dealings. The rune fehu is translated as wealth or gold in the rune poems, but its etymological orgin continues to suggest the strength of fertility and life-force which are essential aspects of this stave. The connection between wealth, fertility and general life-force is visible in the nature of the goddess Freya and the god Freyir, whose powers govern prosperity and well-being in all forms. Both Freya and Freyir are deities of the fertile earth and of riches - one of Freyir titles is Fodhi, the Fruitful, and Freya weeps tears of gold. The life-force of these two deities is expressed as joy, sexual energy and courage in battle. Both gods are mighty warriors as well as rulers of prosperity and peace; their nature is energetic is all aspects of being. This is the stave of elemental fire as the primal energy working through the worlds, the sound of fertility, prosperity and strength. The word fire is often used in keenings for gold, such as "fire of the dragon´s bed" and "fire of the creek", and gold is often described as glod-red, indicating its fiery nature. The woe-working aspect of Fehu is its capability of causing discord, even within kin-grouping, among those who should be most closely bound. As the rune of elemental fire, Fehu is always a potential source of disruption as well as strength. The working of fehu in this aspect can be seen in the description of how Freya came to the Aesir as the witch Gullveig, power of gold, with power over fire and the energies of seidhr magick, and how the discord caused by her presence became the war between the Aesir and the Vanir. This war could only be ended by the giving of hostages - the use of the power of gebo to harness fehu by channeling its energies into the binding of exchange. Fehu´s might should never be static but eternal flow, otherwise it can become tainted. This is the meaning behind the stories of dragon´s gold being poisoned: wealth kept immobile generates envy and strife. The fires of fehu in the personal sphere are expressed in libido, the energy which, sexual in origin, is sublimated and channeled to provide the force behind most human creative actions. In Magick, Fehu governs the transfer of energies. You can use it either for projection or for the sake of drawing energy into yourself to temporarily increase your own power for a working. Repeated use of the rune for this purpose will gradually increase the quantities of energy that you can handle at any given time and will aid the growth of your personal reserves of power. In general, the use of Fehu with another rune will cause a fiery increase in the second rune´s power if fehu is used in a supplementary manner. If, for instance, you wer eto use fehu with jera for the purpose of enhancing your natural spiritual growth to the fullest extent possible while bringing a rapid increase in your general power, although the control exerted by jera would prevent that power from outstripping your wisdom or your ability to shape and guide it. As well as drawing external energies into yourself, fehu can also be used for awakening your personal power and sending it outward. The rune poems´ references to "the path of the serpent" refers to the nature of fehu as magickal energy itself, which is hidden and should be handled with due respect, care and devotion for the best results in all workings. Ritually, fehu shows the hamingja or life-force. It is also seen in the unshaped flame of the fire-pot or recels-burner. Fehu can be used for increasing fertility, sexual desire and riches. The stone carnelian, whose name derives from the Latin flor flesh is appropriate for fehu. Its red-gold colour represents the fiery gold of the rune´s energies. Carnelian it is said to energize its holder and bring good luck, the positive working of energy in your personal sphere. Carnelian is also said to be an aid to fertility, and is traditionally said to be an aid to fertility and protection against envy and strife, the negative aspects of fehu if not in motion. Green tourmaline works well together with fehu, green being related to the Vanir, Freyir and Freya. Amber is also connected with fehu, being a Freya associated gem twin to gold. It is said that Freya´s tears turn to gold on the land and to amber in the sea. Amber´s energetic properties are visible in every plane, including the physical, where its energies are expressed as an electrical chage. ------------------------------ Sources:pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samhain http://www.rune-magick.com/pages/aettir2/08_sowilo.htmhttp://www.rune-magick.com/pages/aettir1/01_fehu.htm

Part One:1) What was your question? Does MBA like me? 2) Find a picture of the rune you started on. 3) What number did you choose and why? 22 because it was the first thing that came to mind. 4) Post your reading here. ING This rune symbolizes accomplishment. It means the fulfillment of a project. It is a symbol of fertility, birth, rebirth or achievement. It means the end of one thing and the beginning of another. You are close to a new start. Be confident. 5) How does this reading relate to your question? What does it mean to you and your future? 200 words maximum. This reading relates to my question, because it signifies Accomplishment, which I take as a yes. It means to me that I’m coming to a new start, which also means that something is starting that could be between me and MBA. 6) Do you agree with your reading? Of course I do! Part Two:1) What is Samhain? The actual time of transition, from sundown on Samhain to sunrise the following day, was a "thin place" in the Celtic world, a place between-the-worlds where deep insights could pass more easily to those who were open to them. In addition to inspiration, through the portals could also pass beings of wisdom, fun, and play (and some of these played rough, requiring common sense and real caution on the part of mortals). 2) When is Samhain? This season was the beginning of the New Year (and winter) in many rural areas of Europe. And towards the end of October in other places. 3) In what way does this relate to Ancient Runes? because the element of Samhain is Air. The veil to the other side is so thin at this time that you can see the spirits in the Air. Extra Credit:1) For the rune you started on and landed on tell me their full meaning in ancient runes. Name: man Meaning: man Letter: M m A.-S. rune name Mann, Proto-Germanic Mannaz, Roman Letter m Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem Verse: Mann is in mirth---his kinsmen's leif (dear), Though each shall - others swike (deceive) When the Drighten (i.e. "lord") wishes---in his doom That poor flesh---betaken (committed) to the earth. Mann in the ancient Northern European tongues meant both sexes not just the male. The word for male in Anglo-Saxon was wer while in Old Norse it was ver. Mann represents all humans can be, it is a rune of mortality, of happiness and betrayal. The moral of the Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem is clear, when things are going good it is easy for humans to be kind and loyal, but when death is near, personal survival takes over. One noted runester takes Mann to indicate the perfect man, the sort found in Plato's philosophy. However, the "Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem" verse seems to indicate something much different; a typical human with all their flaws. Mann is the rune of Mankind's mortality. We are quick to act and behave with honor and dignity when the going is good, but when our worlds begin to crumble around us, the survival instinct kicks in, and we betray even those whom we love. Even so, Mann also represents all of Mann's noble qualities, though these are better represented by other runes such as Tír. Mann is neither a negative or positive rune, but one of reality. For all we are, we are still mere mortals questing to comprehend what we often cannot. In divination, Mann can mean many things, but it usually indicates to beware of betrayal, to watch ones self and others. In spellwork, it can be used to reinforce one's own mortality. Name: ing Meaning: ing Letter: Ng N A.-S. rune name Ing, Proto-Germanic Ingwaz, Roman Letter "ng" Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem Verse: Ing was first---among the East Danes Seen by men---but he since went eft (back) Over the wet way---his wain (wagon) ran after Thus the Heardings---named the hero. The name of the rune Ing is also the name of the Norse god Frey. Therefore the rune Ing is a rune of fertility, peace, and plenty. Many runesters see it as the "castrated male," but in truth, it is the virile father. Ing is the principal of male virility and along with Beorc is the rune of the start of new life. While Beorc is the nurturing of motherhood, Ing is the protectiveness of the father. Ing was protector of the frith, the peace that surrounded a community along with the prosperity that kept it safe. Frith guilds in Anglo-Saxon England kept the peace, and Ing is a good rune for policemen and other "officers of the peace." Wars and strife broke the peace necessary for the care of crops and animals. Ing therefore symbolizes a provider, protector, and leader. Ing is also tied to the hero who shows up out of nowhere to save a kingdom and then returns whence he came. This motiff is common throughout Northern European mythology and may give the rune added meanings. Ing may indicate the knight in shining armor, the one that shows up suddenly to set things to right and then leaves as quickly as they came. In this sense Ing may indicate unexpected gifts from the gods, the sudden happy surprise. In divination Ing can indicate a prosperous period of peace, sometimes romantic love. In spellwork, it can be used to promote fertility and peacefulness.
