| Grindylow: To defeat a grindylow, you must use the spell "Relashio". Also, if the grindylow grips onto you, you need to break their fingers as they are very brittle. Red Caps: Red caps can be defeated by using a variety of charms and hexes. They are most dangerous on dark nights, and are lured by the smell of blood. Hinkypunk: As a hinkypunk is a one legged creature which appears to be made from smoke, I would defeat it by using an incendio charm which would dissipate it. Boggart: Use the 'riddikulus' curse, and think of how to turn the boggart into something amusing. Laughter is what kills this creature. Dementor: Think of the happiest thought possible, and use the 'patronus' charm; the spell for which is "Expecto Patronum". The patronus will drive the dementor away. | 1. Grindylow I would use the reducto curse to reduce the grindylow to dust. 2. Red Caps I would simply run from the redcap as i think it leads you the wrong direction. Failing that I would use a simple charm such as the permanent sticking charm - red cap to floor and then run away lol 3. Hinkypunk Would the repelling charm work - if so I'd use this one! 4. Bogart I would use the riddikulus curse to create laughter which would then confuse the bogagart. 5. Dementor If i was skilled enough i would create a patronis upon this dementor to keep it at bay Source: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/bestiary.html | |

| Alright here is my Defense Against the Dark Arts Assignment:
Grindylow:
A horned, pale- green water demon, the Grindylow is found in lakes throughout Britian and Ireland. it feeds on small fish and is agressive towards wizards and muggles alike, though merpeople have been known to domesticate it. The Grindylow has very long fingesl, which, though they exert a powerful grip, are easy to break. The spell in choice would be 'Relashio'.
Red Caps:
These dwarflike creatures live in holes on old battlegrounds or wherever human blood has been spilled. Although easily repelled by charms and hexes, they are very dangerous to solitary Muggles, whom they will attempt to bludgeon to death on dark nights. Red Caps are most prevalent in northern Europe.
Hinkyponk:
A little one-legged creature, with the appearance of being made of smoke, the hinkypunk carries a light with which it lures travelers into bogs. Since they are water creatures I would use the 'Incendio' charm - sending a burst of flame to the Hinkyponk.
Boggart:
A shape shifter that prefers to live in dark, confined spaces, taking the form of the thing most feared by the person it encounters; nobody knows what a boggart looks like in its natural state. A boggart appears to feed on the emotion of fear rather than simply deploying this ability as a defense mechanism, hence its classification as a dark creature. Many Muggle children may have encountered boggarts as "the monster under the bed. To dispel of a boggart you will need to perform the 'Riddikulus' charm. Changing the Boggart into something amusing. Laughter would cause the Boggart to dispel.
Dementor:
Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them. Get too near a dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. If it can, the dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself...soul-less and evil. You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life. To dispel a dementor simply think of your most happiest thought and pronounce 'Expecto Patronum' or better know as the Patronus Charm.

| Ok, here are my answers for the Obstacle Course.
Grindylow A creature that is kind of pale green. It lives in the bottom of lakes in between weeds. I guess this would help it camouflage. Professor Lupin taught the third years about these creatures. I’d have to use “Relashio!” on these creatures. This would give them a volt of lighting which would cause them serious pain.
Red Cap A creature that lives off other peoples blood. I guess it could be like a parasite. It the ultimate beating machine…lol. Muggles are the only one to fear from these parasites, as small hexes and charms are what defeats them. I guess I would use the “Evanesco!” spell. This would cause the red cap to simply disappear.
Hinkypunk Is a smokey creature that only has one leg. I would use the “Impedimenta” spell which would slow the hinkypunk thing down and when its in slow mo, I would kick its one leg and cause it to fall…lol.
A Boggart Is kind of a shape shifter which can change forms when it encounters a person. It will take form of whatever that person fears. I would use the “Riddikulus” spell, which changes the fear into something funny. Like Snape wearing a dress…lol
Dementors They suck the life from people and takes their soul, I think. Anyway you have to be a really experienced wizard to beat them. I would use the “Patronus” Charm, this would driveway the dementors by using an animal form in a positive way.
I used two sources http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/bestiary.html
And Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

| 1. Grindylow: A grindylow is a water demon and has sharp teeth and long claws. It waits in the water to pull in persons who gets too close. They are palegreen, long fingers and yellow teeth. I would prefer Pepsodent toothpaste, to begin with. Only spell I can come up with is 'Relashio' or then just simply stay away from them. 2. Red Caps: Dwarf-like little things that lives under ground at places where there has been spilled blood. Yuck! Only Muggles needs to be afraid of them, but simple spells can make the little devil go away. 3. Hinkyponk: A one legged little creature that tricks travellers to follow it with its light. It tricks them to deep bogs, as it is a water creature. Another reason to always have with you own light. 'Incendio' or 'Evanesco' would be quite good here. 4. Boggart: Boggart is a shapeshifter. It takes the shape of the thing that you fear the most. Geez, I remembered that from the PoA :D Well, the only spell to beat a Boggart is the ' Riddikulus' . To get the spell to work, you have to think of something that makes you laugh. Laughter confuses the Boggart. I assume, that if you quickly change persons in front of the Boggart, it gets confused since there's so much choices to choose between. But this is just a guess, never tried it so... Boggart's 'lives' in dark places, like closets and other that kind of places. It sits there and waits for a perfect victim to find it, so that i can scare the hell out of you. :D 5. Dementor: Dementor is a 'creature' that sucks all joy out from you. They also are the guardians to Azkaban, the prison in Wizarding world. They can also suck your soul out, which they usually do to the prisoners that arrives to Azkaban. Their only way to 'live' if you can call that living, is by sucking every happy memory and feeling out of you, which leaves you with all those horrible ones. Charming, I know. To get rid of a Boggart you have to perform the patronus charm, 'Expecto Patronum'. Only a powerful wizard or witch can conjure a corporeal patronus, which takes the shape of an animal, in Harry's case a stag. This is quite the same theory as with the Riddikulus Charm. You have to think of something really happy, a very happy memory. It have to be a strong memory, though. So that makes it even harder to do. | GrindylowLives in the bottom of most lakes. Pale green in colour, the Grindylow has good camouflage against the murky colour of the water. Beware when swimming, for Grindylows have long fingers which they would use to grab hold of you, sharp teeth that they mgiht try to bite you with, and sharp pointy horns that they may stab you with. If you find yourself in this situation use the spell Realsio to free yourself. RedcapsSmall creature that resembles a goblin. Loves bloodshed, so avoid at all costs. (especially ifyou are a muggle) Any defensive charm or hex can be used against them, although i would recommend Diffindo, the severing charm, Impedimenta, to slow the Redcap down so you can run away or Stupefy, the stunning spell. HinkypunkA small, one-legged creature that looks like it's made of mist or smoke. Mainly found on moors or near bogs. If travelling through a moore/bog, beware of strange lights, for the Hinkeypunk carries a light, which has been known to lure travellers into the bogs or dunes, causeing them to dissapear. If you see said light, aim the Impedimenta jinx or the severing charm in that direction, then move around the light. Do NOTwalk towards it, unless you wish to drown in a bog. BoggartLives in dark spaces, the shapeshifter takes the form of the object that you fear the most. The only thing that can rid a boggart is laughter, and the Riddikulus spell. Once the boggart has taken shape of what you most fear, picture something comical about that object, then simply say the incantation. Boggarts can be found anywhere, and cannot be immediately recognised for no-one has seen it's original form. DementorsDementors feed on human emotions. They can drain all energy if left with them too long. The Patronus Charm is the most commonly used defence against Dementors. If you find yourself in the presence of a Dementor, think of an extremely powerful 'happy' thought and use the spell Expecto Patronum. This will drive the Dementor away form you. The dementor's worst weapon is called the Dementor's Kiss. The dementor 'kisses' the mouth of the victim and sucks out his soul, leaving him alive, but dead inside. Muggles are perfect victims, for only wizards and witches can see them. | Padfoot Potter - Quote :
- 1. You simply use the spell" Relashio" to get rind of the Grindylow.
2. Red caps will come to you if fresh blood is spilled. You can stop red caps by using a different number of spells. 3. A hinkypunk is a smoke like figure. The counter spell is the incendio charm. 4.“Expecto Patronum" Is the spell you should use. You need to think of something happy when using it. 5. When fighting a Dementoryou think of a happy thing and then shout "Expecto Patronum".

| Grindylow-A pale green water demon, dwells in lakes around Great Britain as well as Ireland. It will try to strangle you with its long fingers, but they are very brittle, so it would be best to try and break them. If the grindylow persists in coming after you, you could use spells such as a Banishing Charm (to send them away from you) or “Relashio” (will send a jet of hot water at them). Red caps- They are attracted to blood, and are described as “small dwarf-like creatures” (Mugglenet.com) For muggles, they can be quite dangerous. The red caps will attempt to bludgeon an unwary person to death. However, wizards can handle red caps quite easily. You could use a charm such as “Immobulus” (prevent them from moving) and move them away from people. Hinkypunk- One legged creatures that carry a lantern, which is used to lure people into bogs. Since the lantern is what attracts people to follow them, you could use “Aguamenti” (a charm that emits a stream of water) and put the lantern out. That way, the hinkypunk could no longer lure people into bogs. To defeat it, a spell like “Furnunculus”, which will cause it to break out in boils. It will be in too much pain to lure anyone anywhere. Boggart-A Boggart is a shape-shifter, and can usually be found in dark places, such as trunks, wardrobes, and the insides of grandfather clocks. It can only be defeated by laughter. Therefore, when the Boggart takes the shape of something you fear the most. For example, it turns into a banshee. You must concentrate on something incredibly funny happening to the banshee. Let’s say, losing her voice. Then, use the spell “Riddikulus!” while imagining the banshee losing her voice. When she does, laugh at her and she will explode leaving nothing but smoke. Dementors- These long-cloaked figures can only be defeated using one spell, the Patronus Charm. To do this, you must concentrate on your happiest moment ever. It can be real or imagined, like being victorious in a Quidditch match. Focus on that moment as you cast “Expecto Patronum”. A silvery whisp will appear from the end of your wand, and take the appearance of an animal that bests suits your personality. The animal will then chase off the dementor, leaving you unharmed. However, since dementors drain happy emotions, the spell should be cast quickly, lest you run out of power. This is especially important because a Patronus charm is incredibly hard to perform. If you don’t defeat the dementor quickly enough, it may “kiss” you, and suck out your soul. | 1.Grindylow:A pale green water demon. It is found throughout lakes in Britain and Ireland. It acts with aggression towards muggles and wizards alike, but merpeople have been known to domesticate it. Grindylows have long fingers with a good grip, but are easy to snap. Spell to defeat them: Relashio 2.Red Cap:A dwarf-like creature that lives in the ground, where ever human blood has been spilt, for egg. Battlefields. They are extremely dangerous, especially to muggles as they will bludgeon them to death on dark nights. Spell to defeat them: There are lots of spells you can use against them. 3.Hinkypunk:This is a small creature which infests marshland. It carries a lantern in its hand, and attempts to use the light to lure unwary travellers into bogs. Hinkypunks have only one leg. Spell to defeat them: Incendio 4.Boggart:A Boggart is a shape-shifter which likes to occupy dark, enclosed spaces. When nobody can see it, the form it takes is unknown. When it is seen, it will take whatever form the person who is viewing it finds most frightening. It is destroyed by laughter, and hence the best way to fight a Boggart is to use a Riddikulus spell to force it to adopt an amusing appearance. When defeated, the Boggart explodes and nothing but smoke remains. Spell to defeat them: Riddikulus 5.Dementors:The Dementor is a large, cloaked, humanesque figure, which towers over a normal man. Under normal circumstances they stay entirely under the cover of their cloaks, so no part of their body can be seen. Occasionally, though, a glimpse may be caught: anyone unlucky enough to catch sight of the creature’s hand will see that it is skeletal, glistening, greyish, slimy and scabbed, like something that has died and decayed underwater. The only other part of a Dementor’s body which can ever been seen is its head, which is considerably worse: scabbed skin covers the sockets where its eyes should be, and it has a gaping shapeless hole of a mouth which it can use to literally suck the soul from its victim. Dementors are the guards of the wizard prison of Azkaban. Their origin is unknown, and it is also unclear how anyone reached agreement with them to carry out this role, as they are speechless, sightless and psychopathic. They feed on positive human emotions – happiness, hope, excitement. Their mere presence sucks every happy feeling or memory from any human present, leaving only cold dark despair in its place. The worst experiences of the victim’s life will flood through them as everything positive is stripped away. This effect causes the vast majority of Azkaban inmates to go insane in a very short length of time. Any wizard exposed to a Dementor for long enough is also likely to lose their powers. Dementors glide rather than walk, and although sightless can sense human emotions and are drawn to them. Their breath stinks of decay and sounds like a death rattle as it is drawn into their body – it is as though they are sucking more than just air from the atmosphere around them. The one thing a Dementor likes more than feeding on human emotions is to feed on a human’s soul. The act of sucking their victim’s soul out of their body is known as the Dementor’s Kiss. In theory, application of the Kiss is strictly controlled by the Ministry of Magic and used only in the case of the most evil killers. In practice, a Dementor will Kiss anybody it can get close enough to. Spell to defeat them: The Patronus charm Sources used: 1. http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/?ID=info/creatures2. http://www.mugglenet.com/infosection/creatures/creatures.shtml3. http://www.mugglenet.com/infosection/spells/spells.shtml | |
