The Common Welsh Green Dragon

The Common Welsh Green Dragon inhabits the Welsh country exclusively, though there have been sightings around the United Kingdom, yet this is very rare.

This type of dragon tends to avoid humans, and feeds mainly upon the common sheep found in its natural habitat.

Historic Sightings

In the year of 1932, documents tell of a sighting of this breed of dragon over a nearby beach where muggles were taking in the warm sun. Through the quick thinking of a family of Wizards, victims of the dragon was prevented. It was the biggest cover up by memory charms seen in over a century. This helped with a section in the International Code of Wizarding Secrecy;

Clause 73 of the International Code of Wizarding Secrecy states that if any magical creature is noticed by muggles in a particular country, that country will be subject to discipline by the International Confederation of Wizards.

This was a thankful moment in history, yet according to Blenheim Stalk, a wizard who has written a book on the subject, “Muggles Who Notice” published in 1972, there was one muggle who escaped the memory charm and has often spoken about a ‘dirty great flying lizard that punctured his lilo’.

In more recent times, the Common Welsh Green Dragon has been used within the well known Triwizard Tournaments which was based in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a tournament which involves three competing schools for the honour of the Triwizard champion.
During the first task, a Common Welsh Green dragon was brought in and was petted against one Fleur Delacour, who had to get past the new mother dragon to reach the golden egg, a clue for the second task of the tournament. Due to extensive protection by trained wizards, the Common Welsh Green caused no fatalities.
