I think he'll still play a large role, and it'll probably be through his portrait or pensieve.

This is from an interview with Dan Radcliffe, talking of a convo he had with JKR a few months ago:

Well, i think that he's portrait will be important... he'll be chillin' there like wooppidoodidaaaa xD Cuz i don't think he would want to stay around as a ghost... cuz that can't be much fun xD

So yeah, his portrait will be.... weeeee xD

I go with portrait cuz uhm... he won't come back, that's clear and he won't be a ghost either cuz we know only people who don't want to leave earth come back as ghosts and it seemed to me that with his "there are worse things than death"- thoery, DD doesn't count to this group of people. But he will have to talk to HArry somehowand that's our best and most probable guess!

I agree its got to be his portrait *nods*

i personally dont think he is dead i know odd but i do.

Every other time we've seen the Avada Kedavra done, the victim falls over dead:

But, in Half-Blood Prince, when Snape hits Dumbledore with the same spell, Dumbledore flies up, away from the tower:

Snape raised his wand and pointed it directly at Dumbledore. "Avada Kedavra!" A jet of green light shot from the end of Snape's wand and hit Dumbledore squarely in the chest. Harry's scream of horror never left him; silently he was forced to watch as Dumbledore was blasted into the air. For a split second, he seemed to hang suspended beneath the shining skull, and then he slowly fell backward, like a great rag doll, over the battlements and out of sight. (HBP pg 596/556)

Why is it diffrent? Maybe the teachings of the non-verbal spells in the book were clues set by J.K. Maybe as Snape said the curse he did a wand movment diffrently that went witha spell he thought mentaly. Maybe Dumbledore is possibly is an unconcious state to make others think he is dead. You know give Harry that extra push to get rid of Dumbledore.

hm, I have never considered it possible for DD to be still alive. As far as I remember, Jo said he was dead, right? But anyway yours is the first halfway probable argumentation I have heard so far about this, so congrats!

I think JK did say that he was dead for sure. Although I'd love to see him be alive, I dont think it much of a high thing that will happen. I think that his portrait will still play a huge part though

as much as i wish he would return from the dead, it's not gonna happen, however even if he is dead he has that handy dandy portrait of his that can help harry out even after he's gone

ok all you portrait people.. if his portarait was going to play a huge part then what was the point of killing him off? huh? o yea, there wouldnt be.

I said no part..he is dead as sad as it is.. beleive me, its sad and I cried when I read it, but HE IS DEAD!!

I do agree that he's dead as a doornail, however, I do think that he has to play some part in the final book. A majority of the fans are expecting him to feature in the final book. My guess would be, like many others, in the portrait.

I agree to that he is dead but as the others, he has to feature somehow and I think that best way is his portrait

I have a firm belief that his portrait will come into play with helping Harry on his quest, afterall, so many fans will be disapointed if Dumbledore does not appear in one way or another, and as he is dead, the portrait is the only real possible way
