| Spell Creation
Ten points to RhiannonMei for this suggestion. You may still complete this class.
So…The main questions in this particular area of Charms are pretty obvious. Which languages are best? How do you decide the endings of the verbs? Which tense? Which particular adjective? How many words? And most obviously, how do you know it is going to work?
Part 1
Aim: To come up with a set of rules with which spells can be created.
e.g. If you want to conjugate a French verb into the perfect tense, there are rules for “-er”, “-ir”, and “-re” verbs which are regular; there are rules for “être” verbs which are irregular.
Therefore,
1. I would like you to choose between 3 and 5 spells that are already in existence. Name these spells (The Repairing Charm, The Levitating Charm, etc). And tell me their incantations. [16 marks]
2. Find four things (grammatical, language of origin, syllables: difficulty of spell ratio, etc, etc) that all of your chosen spells have in common. [16 marks]
3. Add two more things to your list of four that you think should be ideal factors in deciding how to create an incantation (wand movement, etc). [8 marks]
4. Put all of these together to make up your rules (fill in the gaps):
Use ________(language) as a base for all charms. For each spell, use the _______ tense. The difficulty of the spell (does/does not) affect the length of the incantation. There (are/are no) stresses on any of the syllables of the spell. When the incantation is very ________, then the wand movement must be ________. [10 marks]
Part 2
Make up two exceptions to the set of rules above and give a brief made up explanation why. I don’t mind if it is complete nonsense, as long as it has something to do with spell creation and I can understand where you are coming from. Explanation should be around 30-40 words long.
When the spell is used for ___________, then ___________ changes. When the spell is very complex, then __________ has to change. [20 marks]
Part 3
Invent a situation in which you needed to make up a spell on the spot. Be it in an emergency, under peer pressure, in class, whatever! Try and be creative, and write in story form. Imagine you go to a foreign country and have to speech that language with little teaching…imagine how you feel, what you think, and try and convey that in your mini story. Write a minimum of 200 words, maximum 500 words. [30 marks]
TOTAL MARKS: 100 marksThis may seem like a complicated class, so don't hesitate to ask ELANA via PM, or in the Questions/Feedback thread. Points will be awarded periodically. Points changed and class altered to fit on July 17, 2009.

| Well. This class has been up for a while. And even though I've been away for a while, I did expect a few more people to do it...I thought it was interesting, since it was suggested in the Class Suggestions Thread. Anyway...POINTS!
Well Done to Kendra_McKie. 50 Points to Hufflepuff.
And although RhiannonMei, you didn't do the class, you still suggested it, and it was one that I probably wouldn't have thought of. 10 Points to Gryffindor (if Elfie hasn't already added them from my first post)
